Whats the name of this movie? It's so rare to see good ole shouting times on movies & plays...thanks for posting...I would love to see the full movie!!
Oh, I see what you mean. I'm still pretty sure that they didn't film on location at real churches like some movies do. I may be wrong but I think I rememeber reading in some research on this book and movie that all of the congregants were actors and it was filmed on set and not in a real church.
Also, I know that churches like this still exist. I've been a member at some. lol
@77Apostle This isn't a service from an actual church. It's a scene from a movie made in the 80's about James Baldwin's novel, "Go Tell It On the Mountain." This scene is based on the storefront Pentecostal Holiness church he attended in New York as a child in the 1920's, "The Church of the Fire-Baptized." I imagine it doesn't exist anymore.
Can someone tell me where i can purchase this movie..i am pentecostal holiness and this so like my church ..and head coverings and all i love holiness..if you can let me know where i can purchase a copy of this movie on DVD it would be greatly appreciated
This reminds me of two things: (1) going to church at Bethel Pentecostal Church (now Greater Bethel Apostolic Assembly) and (2) One of the Saints homegoing service. I guess that's the effect of being an Apostolic-Pentecostal. Only the song and shouting would be longer.
I own this movie, and watch it atleast once a year. Great movie, and raw acting. Big props to Desiree Coleman and Giancarlo Esposito. Alot of the actors in this went on to work with Spike Lee in School Daze. Kadeem Hardison, James Bond III, Giancarlo Esposito.
I'm so glad to see this. Go Tell It On The Mountain is a book that I read over thirty years ago and has remained one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing!
Now this is what I've been waiting to hear.. Linda Singing the ceiling down in Go Tell It On The Mountain.. One of my favorite movies. Now that's Mama I Want to Sing!!!

It may be a play, but if they had just gone on for about 20 more minutes they'd have to catch me on the freeway heading west.

I was wondering, can anyone post this movie if they own it? I saw it over 20 years ago as a child but I haven't seen it since. Thanks.
