I think i read somewhere "Phil" joined this band when he was sixteen yrs. old before he obviously blew away Peter, Tony, and Mike and all the other drummers on stage during open tryouts for "Genesis" after John Mayhew left the band after "Trespass" 1969!!....WOW!!...What a history lesson!
Sounds a _lot_ like what Genesis was doing on From G to R actually! Even down to the echoey sound on the vocals and added strings.- Which came first? Were they both influenced by early Moody Blues or what?
The sound doesn't quite fit the name of the band, not this song at least. First of heard of them.
HOLY CRAP!! PHil actually looks like he belongs to the beatles, I'm reading his bio at the moment and his personality sounds like a cross between Paul and John, more john though, kinda looks like him too.
it is obvious ...Phil was 19 or less...do you think he would not change... all change...even people ...but he increased his creativitie and talent ... I love like he is...and for what he is... with hair was most handsome...but...nothing to do....ja,ja
in 1820 a man named fredrick osloft one day he was working in his lab until a ghost came by and killed him the next morning fredrick was nowhere to be seen 100 years later two boys went in the lab as a dare the boys where never seen again where aparently murdered now that u have read this comment tonight when u go to sleep the two boys and fredrick will come and murder you but you can stop this by posting this comment on 5 other videos by midnight
make that question to the people of Petermania or better HACKETTMANIA... JA,JA... Phil WILL BE ALWAYS HIM... ....BETTER TAKE THAT WITH GOOD HUMOR or with these archives of the early Phil ...
Thanks for posting this. 'Space Child' is actually just one track from a terrific 1969 album by Flaming Youth (still available on BR Music) called ARK 2, which told the perhaps prophetic story of the spacecraft evacuation of survivors from a doomed Earth. It received great reviews and was Collins' first outing on a major label.
I love this video!!!! That is so cutie

Little did Phil Collins know that he would eventually be relegated to bargain-bin, has-been, adult-contemporary 80's, oldies radio HELL!
He had pretty hair though...at least until the bald monster got a hold of his short ass...

This sounds like it's coming out of Genesis' first album "From Genesis to Revelation". Though he wasn't even in Genesis back then.
You gotta love Phil!
HanyMust 2 years ago
@HanyMust That was my impression as well. Surprised only you and I (it seems) have commented on the similarity.
Another surprise was finding Phil singing... had always figured he had started out being just a drummer.

Hee hee hee... Phil with hair. At least he had a lot of it. Almost as if he could see his future and compensated.

I had the privilage of working with Flaming Youth back in 1969 at a small venue in Sleaford, Lincolnshire in the U.K.
At that time Phil Collins was just a 19 year old drummer with the band, totally unknown.
As we all know when he decided to joinGenesis the rest is History ... It was a pleasure to meet you Phil.
