  • I love this video!!!! That is so cutie

  • I think i read somewhere "Phil" joined this band when he was sixteen yrs. old before he obviously blew away Peter, Tony, and Mike and all the other drummers on stage during open tryouts for "Genesis" after John Mayhew left the band after "Trespass" 1969!!....WOW!!...What a history lesson!

  • Hmmm!, not convinced.

  • His drumming got a lot better after this!

    :)

  • Sounds a _lot_ like what Genesis was doing on From G to R actually! Even down to the echoey sound on the vocals and added strings.- Which came first? Were they both influenced by early Moody Blues or what?

The sound doesn't quite fit the name of the band, not this song at least. First of heard of them.

  • HOLY CRAP!! PHil actually looks like he belongs to the beatles, I'm reading his bio at the moment and his personality sounds like a cross between Paul and John, more john though, kinda looks like him too.

  • Back when he had hair.

  • did you kwow that collins played also on george harrison´s first album, "all things must pass"?

  • Little did Phil Collins know that he would eventually be relegated to bargain-bin, has-been, adult-contemporary 80's, oldies radio HELL!

He had pretty hair though...at least until the bald monster got a hold of his short ass...

  • @chikotntw Baldness is a cure for crap hair styles lol

  • woefull!

  • a little prince ....

  • This sounds like it's coming out of Genesis' first album "From Genesis to Revelation". Though he wasn't even in Genesis back then.

    You gotta love Phil!

  • @HanyMust That was my impression as well. Surprised only you and I (it seems) have commented on the similarity.

Another surprise was finding Phil singing... had always figured he had started out being just a drummer.

  • very nice to see young Phil

  • Hee hee hee... Phil with hair. At least he had a lot of it. Almost as if he could see his future and compensated.

  • this is awful...holy christ!

  • He isnt even using drum sticks and he still rocks

  • My god people you wouldn't think that was Phil Collins there, he so young compared to what he looks like in Genesis a now

  • it is obvious ...Phil was 19 or less...do you think he would not change... all change...even people ...but he increased his creativitie and talent ... I love like he is...and for what he is... with hair was most handsome...but...nothing to do....ja,ja

  • wow great band! phil had always a good base and friends.this band is great but probably unlucky.

  • unlucky or lucky for us...can you imagine this band would had prospered... what would have been of Genesis ...without Phil?

  • great stuff ,never thought i would ever see flaming youth on film, fab.

  • I love their drummer; Whatever happened to him? Did he do anything after this? (Just kidding!)

  • Duh. He went on to from Brand X. Only THE 25th most popular jazz fusion band of all time. GOSH!

  • and what about Genesis !?... his drums are melodious ...words of Peter ...

  • make that question to the people of Petermania or better HACKETTMANIA... JA,JA... Phil WILL BE ALWAYS HIM... ....BETTER TAKE THAT WITH GOOD HUMOR or with these archives of the early Phil ...

  • How about a Flaming Youth reunion?

  • ask Phil ...! I would like to be the messager girl to do that mission ....

  • Wow.. didnt think video of young PC in Flaming Youth existed.. thanks for posting this!!

  • What? You expected him to be bald? LOL

  • Haha... Phils hair :D

  • WOW! Never knew this footage existed!

  • @squonkynut Phil may not know either.

  • Great stuff. Never knew there was TV footage of Flaming Youth. I love the album to pieces.

  • Wow , Just to see this video is pretty unbelievable . I too have the Flaming Youth

" Ark II : LP , Which is on UNI records .

I bought it from Spinmore records in Kent Ohio , For $ 9.00 !!!

  • Great group, i like brand x too.

  • I had the privilage of working with Flaming Youth back in 1969 at a small venue in Sleaford, Lincolnshire in the U.K.

At that time Phil Collins was just a 19 year old drummer with the band, totally unknown.

As we all know when he decided to joinGenesis the rest is History ... It was a pleasure to meet you Phil.

  • NO WAY!

  • WOW Never ever expected to see this!! Have had acopy of the album ARK 2 for 20 years now. It's my pride and joy. (yes I am that sad!)

  • Phil Collins looked amazingly like Ronan Keating/Jude Law.

  • That's brill, thx for posting this.

  • OMG!

he sounds almost exactly the same!

his voice doesn't match his face here, i dont think though

    STILL BEAUTIFUL *tear*

  • Just fantastic - the song and Phil's performance.

  • Thanks for posting this. 'Space Child' is actually just one track from a terrific 1969 album by Flaming Youth (still available on BR Music) called ARK 2, which told the perhaps prophetic story of the spacecraft evacuation of survivors from a doomed Earth. It received great reviews and was Collins' first outing on a major label.

  • Wow, no matter what group Phil Collins was in, he always ended up the vocalist.

  • I absolutely LOVE this video! Thanks for sharing it.

  • I love this album. Sadly this track which is entitled "Space Child" has a big gash in it from playing so many times. Thanks for finding this footage.

  • Marvelous! Thanks for sharing this!!

  • I can see why he was lookiing for another band!!

  • I didn't know Flaming Youth ever made a music video... Thanks for the moldy oldie! I see Phil was singing even then...

  • Wow... Well, we know who to get to play Phil Collins in the movie... Orlando Bloom! *laughs*

  • Where did you get that!!!!

  • wow!! greatttt

  • That was great, I'd love to see more of young peelip...

  • OOhh , Nice hair Pee lip
