You can practise the cobra launch with a solid breeze at least 3m/s. pull on the outside 2 a risers and the break on the same side and use your weight. And lo and behold, it's going up like a snake! Practise until you can fully control the wing no matter where it is hanging in the air or touching the ground.
On another occasion I was soaring with former clubmates who all had years more experience but couldn't do the cobra. They were all dragged very close to the wire fence, 10 meters away from the launch. And I easily set up my wing and launched without a hassle.
The idea behind the cobra launch is very solid. You rise the wing outside of the powerzone, just like a big kite. It's a very safe and solid way to set up your wing. I've been ground handeling with a windspeed of 9m/s -- way to strong to be flying -- but I could ground handle!
Just like launching a traction kite in high winds , not dangerous at all. I have launched huge traction kites in to 40 knot winds with the same technique.
Is the cobra launch for high winds? How About the A & C launch in high winds where you have both the A risers in one hand and the C's in the other. Which one is better in your opinions?
Oh yes. If the wind is so strong you really need the cobra launch, don't launch! The wind is probably to strong to fly.

I am going to Hawaii in March and was told to practice high-wind launches. Nice example.
