true.. I think it might look a little off until you get the technique down. I was thinking if you died it a rich orange, and did some paint techniques underneath, a bit of rock work like you do on your fords but painted a mix (bright yellow for whats under the resin, black for on top. all with that new water movement affect you have. who knows... You're dead right about that blood though. It's be super sweet with the GW skull fissures.
I love the dirt work under the flocking, MUCH more natural than anything I've seen recently. With your water skills (which a frigging resiculas for anyone reading this who hasn't seen it, look back at this dudes work) have you tried tinting the resin in lava tones? I've never seen it done, but if anyone's got the skills for if, it's you.
Not sure the resin will look like lava as they flow quite differently. Pools of blood welling up from the ground might look pretty convincing though. :)
The lava cracks are very eyecatching, and the colour contrast with the landscape works well. Beautiful craftmanship Mike. Rather than term them "cracks" I'd suggest you call them "fissures". It's actually more accurate and sounds more impressive.
Thank you for your compliments. I should mention that TerranScapes is just one guy, me, which helps to explain why there is a waiting list or delays in shipping work. :)
Basically taken from a rich yellow up through to a deep red (scab red I think?) Then drybrushed with black to 'cool' the surface. :) Glad you like it.
To continue from above, it is also important to remember that this type of work is labor intensive.
I have seen Blue Table painting address this concern as well and it is a fair question to raise form time to time. One of my advantages is that I strive to keep my overhead very low (no employees / studio rental) so I can offer higher quality work at a lower price. Look around carefully and I think you will agree.
Of course, I also try to inspire others, so take my ideas and make it a DIY. :)
I'm happy to address concerns regarding price. It is helpful to remember that to make a living wage as a small business, you need to charge a reasonable hourly rate and cover your expenses, such as materials, income taxes, retirement, advertising, etc. Also consider the amount of time that is not charged for such as addressing questions on youtube, email inquiries for projects, posting videos, taking pictures, etc. Charging $15 - $20/hr for artistic labor is very low in this light.
Absolutely incredible! Love all of your work! And a true inspiration.
Thanks for sharing.

Does the lava cracks have depth to it or is just painted on?

The cracks are carved into the board about 1/4" at its deepest point.

to me, your terrain is far too expensive for what you get

Really? Mike does some really amazing work for a fair price IMO. I don't know exactly what you are trying to compare it to though.
Then again I might be biased as the Citadel board he mentioned is mine :).
