  • OH damn, I so wanted her car when I saw this as a kid! LOL!

  • 1:33 "We're off to Kyoto, and not to buy 4-Loko"

  • Thanks for this awesome song. Do you have all the lyrics? Please, please post them. I would love to sing-along my favourite childhood song.

  • This is one of those moments where child hood nostalgia slaps you in the face. :)I grew up on this special!! My mom made this tape for me when this came out. I must have watched it so many times it wore out lol. I kinda miss it to be honest.

  • Yes, Tokyo means "eastern ca[pital and Kyoto is "westen capital"

  • Can anyone understand what she says around 1:23, after the line "We're going awful slowto" ????

  • @thatowen she says "Soon we'll take the Shinkansen I cant wait till then" The Shinkansen is the japanese high speed bullet train.

  • You know, I've always wondered how on earth they film this stuff.

I mean that taxi driver who passes them on the highway @1:18 must be wondering what was in his coffee that morning, LOL.

  • rape at 0:56 abd 1:00

  • Nobody thinks it's weird that a HUGE bird and a HUGE dog are sticking out of a convertible? Come on, those Japanese people don't think that's werd

  • there is no escaping orgazmo.... prepare to meet your doom....

  • .-.

    I can't stop staring...at that giant dog...

  • Here's how I can tell Big Bird is in Japan?

The road signs are in Japanese!

  • favorite big bird movie EVER!

  • From 1:00-1:57, was Big Bird driving the car or, was the Japanese woman named Kaguya-Hime driving the car? If she was driving, I wonder if in Japan that the passenger side is the side where the driver drives the car.

  • @afriendofbean I live in Okinawa and yes, the Japanese lady is driving. The steering wheels are on the passenger side here and they drive on the left side of the road.

  • Thank you for letting me know. I also know in India and England that the steering wheel is on the passenger side too.

  • When I'm Kyoto, I'm going to take a boato.

I believe I saw this video when I was in second grade.

  • If I am not mistaken, part of the song is "Oh Susana" Is that right? I really liked this movie. On the other hand, just how did Big Bird get into the car?

  • I guess that Japanese woman named Kaguya-Hime just kept pushing on Big Bird until he was completely in the car. (It also made it easier for Big Bird to get in the car because the roof of the car was open).

  • @afriendofbean I suppose that is the best solution.

  • Is it just me or is Big Bird's voice awkwardly loud for his first couple of line?

He's like foreigners in real life when they go to Japan lol

  • @sideim

  • the Imperial Palace is in Kyoto because that was the original capital, during the Sengoku era.

  • Actually, the first permanent capital of Japan was in Heijou-kyou (there's that "kyou" again!) -- now known as Nara -- and was established in 710. The imperial capital was moved to Heian-kyou (present-day Kyoto -- see my comment from a year ago) in 794, where it remained, by and large, until the Meiji Restoration (note: this excludes "military capitals" during the Sengoku Jidai).

  • They should have mentioned that Kyoto also has Geishas.

  • ..........wow.

  • hellllooo this was made in 1989

  • Wow, that woman sings beautifully o_o;;

I wanna find this special again.

  • love big bird!!

  • sure is!

  • kyoto and tokyo are anagramatic countries

  • they're cities ;)

  • it's "anagramMatic" :D

  • Er, yes and no. Maybe in English. The "kyo" (京 -- actually "kyou") is common to both Tokyo (東京) and Kyoto (京都). Whereas Tokyo means "Eastern Capital," Kyoto means "Capital Metropolis." Interestingly, Tokyo's full designation is currently Tokyo-to (東京都), as it is now the imperial capital (the last kanji is the same "to" as in Kyoto); Kyoto is now properly Kyoto-fu (京都府), which designates it as an "urban prefecture."

  • kyotokyo

  • @DRUMMERMAN77 : Turns out in Japanese they're not
