Is this David Lale senior, the Australian resident cellist born 1962, or David Lale junior, the UK cellist born 1981, nephew of the former? It's a bit difficult to tell from the video but it looks to me like the older of the two. I went to college in 1979 with David Lale senior. Do give him my best regards if you can.
@antipants94 Thats awesome man, i've had to cut the second and third movement. I didn't have enough time to get them together but my teacher said it would be too long anyways.
Beautiful!! It was a little sharp at points but overall great intonation and phrasing. It could be even more connected in the right hand through the phrases. Be careful not to give unwanted accents (right hand) in the Grave. Courante was great!
amazing! i fell in love with this piece after watching Jian Wang play it when he was 10 in "From Mao to Mozart" ...it's still my favorite version :) but this is also beautiful!
Nice balance between cello and piano.. sometimes the piano can be really heavy and outweight the cello.. i hate that... but in this it's really nice... he plays beautifully love it^ ^
absolutely beautiful and haunting. very musical, such a seductive, penetrating sound. excellent technique . you have air and bridges in your phrasing-- so , so haunting.. thank you very much. no one else plays in better on youtube.
he played the second movement like whoaaaa hahah that was really good. im not proffessional or nothin, but the first movement couldve been a little more musical. idk lol im learning this now
you really need to get over yourself. your telling this perfesional celloist that he isnt musical and your screen name is 1stChairCelloPlaya...i dont care how great you are (and its probably not that good) but thats just unbearable obnoxious.
Hi David, many already commented on your wonderful and emotional playing and I can just join into their enthusiasm for your playing. Since I am also about to play this piece, I just wonder how long did you play the cello and how much time can you a week or so can you reserve for music? Since I try to play nice, I will not (and cannot) concentrate on speed, thus my Courante will be much slower. But your playing will set for me quite a high standard.
This is much different than the bass version that have. Regardless, this sounds amazing and has so much emotion. If only it was possible to play it like that on a bass with ease, than it would be great...
Heya Dave! It's Julia, finally got a chance to see this in a resolution where your head is not wibbly. Love the second movement, and when can we expect the string orchestral version? :-)
Interesting. I learned to play through the Suzuki method and played it out of the Suzuki book, it doesn't list an arranger... so I guess I played the original...
and also i think maybe he might be playing it wrong, because back in the time of duport, they didnt use vibrato or any little techniques to make the song sound more alive, so he might be playing it differently to you.
@brennanlabs i have to perform this song for an audition for an all city orchestra, im in high school and im really can't wait to perform this, plus this song is very beautiful. Thank You for posting this, im sure i'll do good.
He certainly is taking his expressive liberties as a musician... is he playing an arranged version??? B/c this definitely is not the same version as the copy of the piece that I have, and the piece I have doesn't list an arranger...
this has to be one of my favorite pieces to play, it's just so beautiful and expressive. i have to audition with it three times this year hahah, but i don't mind. i love the turns he uses. i wish i could have that kind of flexibility while auditioning but sadly, i do not.
I'm going to have to learn this piece around November, just the first two movements, for an orchestra audition. Ouch, that second movement looks kinda tough.
Our district orchestra, I think there will probably be around 70 people and they take around the top 15? I'm not sure, it's my first time trying out this year.
Yeah he does, but the first movement isn't extremely difficult once you've got your intonation down. I've taken some of his phrasing ideas and put it into mine, and it's turing out wonderfully. Thank you for the video brennanlabs.
Yeah, I pretty much learned this one in a day (not well, but adequate for the situation), and if this is the level music that you generally work with it's all a matter of intonation and working out the bow speed and dynamic. It's not incredibly technically challenging, but he plays it beautifully because he can nail the overall style and tone of the piece.
i love it and since i play cello it sctually encourages me. GO MAN PLAYING THE CELLO WHOSE NAME I DON"T KNOW AND HAS GOOD TALENT FOR HIS AGE!!!
