  • i love it and since i play cello it sctually encourages me. GO MAN PLAYING THE CELLO WHOSE NAME I DON"T KNOW AND HAS GOOD TALENT FOR HIS AGE!!!

  • Is this David Lale senior, the Australian resident cellist born 1962, or David Lale junior, the UK cellist born 1981, nephew of the former? It's a bit difficult to tell from the video but it looks to me like the older of the two. I went to college in 1979 with David Lale senior. Do give him my best regards if you can.

  • @jazzboyfin

This is, indeed David Lale "the senior", I'll pass on the greetings.

  • What's the name of this wonerful player? I've never seen him before. But he's got classical swager! lol

  • during the second movement i thought it was going in fast motion O.O

  • i'm doing this for college auditions :)

  • He's my teacher, and one day i hope to play it this well

  • Currently playing this on the bass clarinet, it's kind of different and has 4 movements, not 2. BUT IT IS SOOOOO GOOOOOD

  • @antipants94 me too its my final exam solo, that last movement is a beast eh?

  • @ledzeppelinbabe123 the whole thing is awesome, i got 82% for it :D

  • @antipants94 Thats awesome man, i've had to cut the second and third movement. I didn't have enough time to get them together but my teacher said it would be too long anyways.

  • very nice... !!!! <3

  • it's great, but what about the arranges??? where all barroque's gone???

  • I had to learn the IM edition, and i like this edition much better

  • when I had to play this this video helped a lot... thanks

  • viva el cello!!!!!

  • If youtube is an accurate indicator, this lovely sonata is the ONLY piece of music ever composed by Eccles.

  • @davehshs there is also somthing called tortuga i think

  • Truly beautiful -- wonderful phrasing and feeling. Thanks.

  • I'm working on this for a concerto competition if i win i get to play it with an orchestra

  • @raymondgrc ,

    You're on Raymond -_-

    Sincerely, Jared

  • shit.... I have to play this...... wellllll.... thias helped alot anyways

  • simplemente genial

  • Lovely stuff David, hope your still riding as well. Cheers M. McEachan

  • epic slo-mo

  • the courante is a different version to mine

  • SuperTubbyTube. Hahaha, David Lale is a proffesional Cellist?

  • Finally, one not played by a ten year old!

  • @Slayer1111111111able i know right.... the boy was good and all... ot just that I wanted it perfect...... and it wasn't

  • Is this John or Henry Eccles?

  • @mellotron12 henry eccles

  • You are definitely one of my new favorite cellists! Really- gorgeous lines, gorgeous tone- so pure and clean. mmmmmm!!!

  • is he a professional cellist?

  • wow. this is amazing, im working on this for an exam and it's not nearly this good

  • Beautiful!! It was a little sharp at points but overall great intonation and phrasing. It could be even more connected in the right hand through the phrases. Be careful not to give unwanted accents (right hand) in the Grave. Courante was great!

  • Very good interpretation...

  • amazing! i fell in love with this piece after watching Jian Wang play it when he was 10 in "From Mao to Mozart" ...it's still my favorite version :) but this is also beautiful!

  • im working on this piece right now... MUST. MAKE. BEAUTIFUL.!

  • Highly mastered and refined playing.

  • Intonation is perfect, but I can't truly get into the feeling of the

    piece until the end.

  • You're great!!!

  • I like the changes he's made to the part. It has it's own character that way.

  • I wish I could play that piece that beautifully.

  • Lindaso!!!!,me encanta esta versión!!!

  • very nice performance! but the music i have is different :S

  • ...and very beautiful pianist ! ;-)

  • really beautiful! lovely music, perfect performance!

  • so beautiful.. my son listens to it now every time before his cello practice:) great model for this sonata. many thanks.

  • Perfect intonation

  • Nice balance between cello and piano.. sometimes the piano can be really heavy and outweight the cello.. i hate that... but in this it's really nice... he plays beautifully love it^ ^

  • i want to learn how to playthis so bad!!!! is gorgeous.

  • I'm performing this in 4 days! i love this piece. i hope my performance sounds just as beautiful as this.

  • akartam ide írni valami nagyon nagyot...de ez olyan nagyon valamilyen, hogy azt nem lehet leírni......úgyhogy hallgatom tovább.....

  • say that in english

  • absolutely beautiful and haunting. very musical, such a seductive, penetrating sound. excellent technique . you have air and bridges in your phrasing-- so , so haunting.. thank you very much. no one else plays in better on youtube.

  • I like this video

  • he played the second movement like whoaaaa hahah that was really good. im not proffessional or nothin, but the first movement couldve been a little more musical. idk lol im learning this now

  • you really need to get over yourself. your telling this perfesional celloist that he isnt musical and your screen name is 1stChairCelloPlaya...i dont care how great you are (and its probably not that good) but thats just unbearable obnoxious.

  • sceriosly

  • i think he needs better phrasing. too many places are the same.

  • Hi. Does anybody know, if there is a decent audio recording of david and catherine, playing this and hopefully other pieces?

i already tried to contact brennanlabs - to no avail so far...

    TIA

  • why dont you convert the file from youtube?

  • yes, i did.

i like better quality though and maybe even more pieces played by the two artists.

    :)

  • Hi David, many already commented on your wonderful and emotional playing and I can just join into their enthusiasm for your playing. Since I am also about to play this piece, I just wonder how long did you play the cello and how much time can you a week or so can you reserve for music? Since I try to play nice, I will not (and cannot) concentrate on speed, thus my Courante will be much slower. But your playing will set for me quite a high standard.

  • effortless and errorless!

  • This is much different than the bass version that have. Regardless, this sounds amazing and has so much emotion. If only it was possible to play it like that on a bass with ease, than it would be great...

  • David was born in England, but is living in Australia.

  • I was just wondering, what nationality is Mr. Lale??

  • Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wonder when can I be as good as you, hehe

  • Heya Dave! It's Julia, finally got a chance to see this in a resolution where your head is not wibbly. Love the second movement, and when can we expect the string orchestral version? :-)

  • one question though... why are the seats behind you empty??

  • i dont think it was a concert, just a video :-?

  • Very nice playing, love the first movement... I have a lesson tonight playing the exact same thing. nice job.

  • its crazie how good he is..OMG..and his so fast on the 2nd movement

  • Haha love the slow motion ending

  • The tone is absolute velvet -- really, a lovely job.

  • I love watching those fingers fly in the second movement!

  • This was a Schott edition, I think the arranger is: Ernst Cahnbley. Thanks for all your comments so far...

  • Interesting. I learned to play through the Suzuki method and played it out of the Suzuki book, it doesn't list an arranger... so I guess I played the original...

  • and also i think maybe he might be playing it wrong, because back in the time of duport, they didnt use vibrato or any little techniques to make the song sound more alive, so he might be playing it differently to you.

  • @brennanlabs i have to perform this song for an audition for an all city orchestra, im in high school and im really can't wait to perform this, plus this song is very beautiful. Thank You for posting this, im sure i'll do good.

  • He certainly is taking his expressive liberties as a musician... is he playing an arranged version??? B/c this definitely is not the same version as the copy of the piece that I have, and the piece I have doesn't list an arranger...

  • Very tastefully done! Love the smooth bow transitions and the tempo of the second movement!

  • this has to be one of my favorite pieces to play, it's just so beautiful and expressive. i have to audition with it three times this year hahah, but i don't mind. i love the turns he uses. i wish i could have that kind of flexibility while auditioning but sadly, i do not.

  • I'm going to have to learn this piece around November, just the first two movements, for an orchestra audition. Ouch, that second movement looks kinda tough.

  • It is a toughy.

I just played it at State solo and ensemble competition here in Texas and was able to pull off a 2. (1-5 ranking; 1 being the highest) with a medal :)

and i also used it for my audition at U.T.S.A. and made it :)

    where are you auditioning for?

  • Our district orchestra, I think there will probably be around 70 people and they take around the top 15? I'm not sure, it's my first time trying out this year.

  • he makes it look so easy......

  • Yeah he does, but the first movement isn't extremely difficult once you've got your intonation down. I've taken some of his phrasing ideas and put it into mine, and it's turing out wonderfully. Thank you for the video brennanlabs.

  • Yeah, I pretty much learned this one in a day (not well, but adequate for the situation), and if this is the level music that you generally work with it's all a matter of intonation and working out the bow speed and dynamic. It's not incredibly technically challenging, but he plays it beautifully because he can nail the overall style and tone of the piece.

  • i play a different version of this

  • Good onya, nice work! Great video too.

  • amazing. I played this solo on Alto Sax yesterday =)

  • omg :[ it sounds so wonderful <3 ;DD

  • sounds amazing! great job!
