Captain Lou was a great entertainer. Most of his career as a manager, he was a heal, but in real life he was a good guy. My father new him personally (they weren't good friends, but they ate at the same restaurant in Bethlehem with the Samoans). Albano always came up to us when we went to that restaurant. For those who live in eastern Pennsylvania or western New Jersey, it was the Bethlehem Diner, right next to Denny's on Catasauqua Rd, just off of Airport Rd.
@NForcerSA LOL...very good. I was thinking about Capt Lou always talking about how wrestling was real on those talk shows in the 1980s and you're right...it would be funny to see them side-by-side.
Incidentally, the song you hear ("Captain Lou" by NRBQ) is available through Rounder Records on the NRBQ "Best Of . . . " CD entitled "Uncommon Denominators". It's also on "The Wrestling Album" (by Lou with a different band). Lead vocal is by bassist Joey Spampinato, who was in the concert/documentary movie "Hail! Hail! Rock 'N' Roll". Captain Lou actually managed the band, and would often perform the song live with them. Lou's rap at the end of the song is quintessential Albano at his best.

"The guiding light! Maker of champions, baby! 17 tag team champions! I make them, I mold them! I'm hell when well, and never sick! Often imitated, but never duplicated! The Captain has spoken, daddy! It's been your privilege!" - various quotes from promos by Lou Albano
LOVED the walk with the palms up and the hands out--- CLASSIC LOU-- the best!!! RIP Also thought Vince was always the best as an announcer-- he did a GREAT JOB

What's sad is he went through all that to make himself bleed, and I still can't even see it because of his hair and beard. Shoot, it's not even worth it. If Flair would have cut himself this much his whole upper body would have been red.
I think were talking early 70's here. The fans were very naive back then. Today this may look obvious but back then it was merely "tthe capt." doing his thing...Good stuff!
Wow, that was really fuckin obvious, more obvious than Hulk Hogan and even Abdullah the Butcher...LOL!

The thing is back then nobody realized these guy's cut themselves,so if you aren't aware of what he's actually doing it's really NOT that obvious.

Someone should use this footage and montage it to his appearance in 1988 on Morton Downey Jr. Show which can be found on Youtube. LOL.

Lou couldn't have been more obvious here if he brought a chainsaw into the ring and used it on himself.
