That is definitely one of the ugliest cars ever made. It is just disgusting to look at in every possible way. In town it looks like a hideous speck in the distance, and adds to the visual pollution and downgrades everything in its path. When you look at the sexy BMW's, Alfas and other cars of the time, this car definitely exceeds all others in flaunting its hideousness.
@malbert34 Those cars you list are absolutely disgusting. The Camry has always been a good looking car, and the Gen 2 is a great example of it. It's also hilarious that there aren't any BMWS, Alfas, etc from that era left on the road, while these Camrys are a dime a dozen still.
@crackaddict444 I can guarantee that If you ask any non-Toyota, non-BMW & non-Alfa Romeo fans that they will certainly agree with the notion that the designs of those prestigious European car manufacturers are just more luxurious and sophisticated. This toyota is simply a "car". A transportation method from A to B. Like a bus. Whereas the Mercedes, BMWs, Audis and Alfa Romeos of the time would provide you with the upmost performance, comfort, luxuriousness and of course looks. This is unanimous.
@malbert34 Looks are entirely subjective, so saying that's unanimous is laughable. And secondly, since when was the Camry a competitor to any of those luxury brands? I would hope they provide more luxury seeing how they're priced way more than a Camry...
@malbert34 Not according to my uncle who drives a Lexus and a Mercedes Benz. He drove my Camry one time, and he was amazed how it handled just like his Lexus and "pretty damn close to his Benz."
My parents had one of these. We had it for so many years, and then they sold it, and thee wasn't much wrong with it! I missed it so much. A great car. Now we have a Camry from around 2000. A nice car, but not as memorable as the '89.
I have a 1987 Toyota Camry with only 83000 original miles on it. The body has bumps and scratches and the paint is faint in many areas but the engine is still strong. It is by far THE BEST car I've ever owned!
I had a 91 Camry DX with the 3s fe engine it was slow as shit but it was good on gas. The head gasket blew at 97,000 miles because the oil pump failed and starved the engine of oil wich made the head over heat and warp. sucks because the car still looked like it was new (had some rot on the rear wheel wells). But I got $500 for it at the scrap yard wich is $400 more than any junk yard will give you.
I have been waiting for this one for years. All I really remembered was the 'yeah punch it margaret' line, don't know why as a kid I remembered that, but I did, thanks for the post...
Lol! This is too funny. I have this car.

@crackaddict444 Yeah exactly. Toyota is a budget brand that builds budget cars. This is reflected in their designs - period.

Back then a few features and OK horsepower were enough back then... it's so much more complicated nowadays. We want more and more standard!

Toyota Camry has come a long way. The V6 now has 265 horsepower. But for 1989, that was very impressive!
