  • at least they have to scream always like hitler the only "german" they know to let it sound scary

  • Butter-Fly? lol schmetterling, if you american and know what "schmetter" is, you laugh double.

    Because schmetter(n) means dash

  • SCHMETTERLING!

  • YE THAT'S RIGHT, EVERYTIME I SEE A SCHMETTERLING(!!!) I SHOUT IT LOUD!!!

  • americans talk way louder than germans

  • You have to consider why germany is said to be the land of poets and philosophers. Our language may not be very romantic, but it is very deep and rich in words. We sometimes have a lot of terms meaning the same but adding a certain thought/intention to the word. In german language you can actually express your exact feelings in words. I have yet to find another language that is so much fun to use (well maybe japanese). English is a very simple and boring language on the other hand.

  • @LowStuff Try Hungarian. Even richer than German!

  • I´m german and i LMAO!!

  • Hilarious! I'm german and I friggin' love how americans always make fun of how aggressiv german sounds.. when it actually doesn't XDDDDD

  • German is a very sweet language. You just shouldn't yell it each time you say it. Perhaps it has a lot of consonants, but so does welsh for example. It's an old language.

  • yea i sit with my girlfriend on the grass and i say:"SCHAU, EIN SCHÖNER SCHMETTERLING!"

  • LOL. Very Funny!!! I´m from Germany!!! ;-)

  • Im funny and I find this German

  • was habts ihr alle imma mit uns deitsche

  • come on guys, he´s a comedian and every comedian uses those stereotypes to be funny... i think an intelligent american knows how tim allen means it... in germany we laugh also about it, just look at the show from kaya yanar

  • I'm from germany and i laughed. i though about nazis standing in the nature screaming at Butterflies :D

  • I'm german and I find this funny.

  • it only sounds harsh because HE'S YELLING!

  • Not funny at all. :(

  • sorry u american guys but somecountry which has stolen a language can't say anything about another language...

  • Yes of course it's very loud on german streets because everyone screams to eachother -.- I could also scream "BUTTTTERFLYYYYYYY"

  • But really,lets be subjective.It IS a nasty language.

  • Lol. :D But of course it sounds aggressive when he shouts that word... >_>

  • I laughed my german ass off

  • Wy everybody thinks german is a noisy and aggressive language? thats not, true maybe if german scream that sounds aggressive but is´t just stupid to say the germans and there language ar aggressive because you shout just 1 word.

  • well, american english sounds gay.

  • TIm WANTS A SCHMÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄTERLING!

  • he can also scream mariposa and its sounds exactly equal

  • its a stereotype like all americans are fat & ugly , dumb

    allen is a lousy comedian

  • i am a nazi and i find this AGGRESSIVE

  • since im german and therfore do have to be a nazi of some kind i do have to speak stupidly loud so that all the prisoners im my kz can understand me. i tried to speak slowly but it turns out that americans need the be shout at, otherwise they don't recognize me as typical nazi. oh no i mean german. sticking into me you see...

  • boring......

  • I'm on an exchange to germany right now and I can say that German is a very beautiful, rich language. When it's not yelled, german is very rythmic and soothing. This just makes me feel sorry for whoever thinks that german is an aggressive language.

  • of course it's a joke. But i'm tired of hearing the same stupid jokes about german language.. it seems like you think we talk like nazis or sth.. even nazis dont talk like that. I mean its 2012 guys.. not 1940 .. -_-

  • Stupid Americans, you don't speak any language except your own and you have the courage to make fun of German??? Your're making fools out of yourselves, everyone is laughing at YOU and not at Germans. We in Europe love Germany, its people are one of the frendliest and about 50% of us actually speak German, the other 50% at least have some knowledge of it, so we don't laugh at it.

  • @rijekarastocine

    Vielen dank^^

  • hey do you have the whole show from where this clip is from....i looove tim allen^^

  • actually the word butterfly and schmetterling originate in the same slavian word schmetten for cream, they were also known as milchdieb and molkenstehler whereof the word butterfly comes from-> the animal that was attracted to freshly made butter. and the french word papillon originates from the latin word papilio also meaning butterfly

  • That's so funny. Not because it would be true or anything like that, but more because it shows how superficial and stupid most of the American humor is. I mean, they say Germans got no humor, but in fact our humor is just deeper than such crap.

  • @Taggax are you american? I actually saw the reaction of americans to an american commedian who does his shows in german... "John Doyle". the humour of the guy is pretty simple-minded. But his jokes are so lame and obvious... I have seen conversations here on youtube of americans who learned German who LOVED him..... So yes... I think your theory is right, without offense to you!

  • @000000AEA000000 I am obviously German.

  • @Taggax I did not check your profile.

  • @000000AEA000000 Wrote it in my commentary as well^^ Doesn't matter.

  • @Taggax yes, I thought you were american living in Germany. I was in a hurry yesterday...... things like that happen then.

    Cheers.

  • ha ha ha. that was hilarious. i just don't get why the today living germans permanently are taken in connection with history from dozens of years ago. i have nothing to do with nazis and i don't fucking care what my grandmothers and grandfathers did wrong, i can't change history. yes it's sad but i'm not fucking responsible for this shit!! so stop raising your american childs with this nazi-shit about germany

  • WE ALSO ONLY WRITE USING CAPSLOCK IN GERMANY ! CAUSE SMALL LETTERS DON`T LOOK AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH

  • @einzeller85 I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THIS FELLOW IS 100% PERCENT CORRECT !

  • @einzeller85 top!

  • @einzeller85

    YEAH!! YOU'RE FUCKIN RIGHT!!!

  • @nervouslife rofl

  • @einzeller85

YOU HEIL FORKOT HEIL THAT HEIL WE HEIL HAVE HEIL NO HEIL SOFT HEIL LETTERS HEIL AND HEIL THAT HEIL WE HEIL SAY HEIL AFTER HEIL EVERY HEIL WORD HEIL HEIL

  • @einzeller85 THATS CORRECT!

  • SMALL LETTERS ARE FOR PUSSIES AND FRENCHMEN!

  • Just jealous because they don't have their own language. And no, dear US citizens, english is NOT originated from "american" ;-) *joking

Fun fact is, if americans try speaking german normally, they totally fail the pronounciation. But while screaming, they somehow get it (it's annoying though, like yelling overall =P )

Germans or europeans alltogether have their own jokes about americans (e.g. they're fat, dumb and fat). Them making jokes about germans is not "unfair" =P

  • i´m german,

and i dont screm when i say "Schmetterling", but die americans like it to make jokes about our .mmhh.. hard language^

  • I´m austrian-american (my dad grew up in Arizona) and I love when americans try to speak german. come on .. tim allen is a funny guy .. don´t teak him too seriously!

btw nearly 20 % of americans are of german decent , so what ?

  • BUTTERFLY!!!

  • why do all amaricans always scream when they try imitate the german language ? :D

  • Ach, liebe liebe Deutsche hier! Also bitte!!!

  • i am german....americans are all fat and stupid so what^^

  • always the same lame jokes.... and he calls the german humourless

  • Im Austrian and i loughed my F******* ass off too ;DDD

The Americans are so stupid, ignorant, arrogant and racists!

  • everything souds evil if you scream it out like shit...

  • I'm german ... and i gotta say i almost peed myself while watching this. :D

  • Is das blööööd -.-

  • HEIL THE SCHMETTERLING! SCHMETTERLING WILL COME OVER YOU AND DESTROY ...nothing :D

  • tim allen looks like my dad and sounds like him haha always a laugh

  • Sure, people in Germany always scream when they talk...

  • @Molybdan42 Öhm no Oo

  • @AdrianArmageddon Öhm, ever heard of Irony ?

  • @Molybdan42 sure we do...we always yell SCHMETTERLING hahaha :D warum nur hört sich deutsch für fremde ohren so grausam an!

  • @Molybdan42 only they didnt understand us denn we spek not slower but more louder xD

  • @Molybdan42

    No we don´t scream....

  • Wie blöd.Wir Deutschen brüllen immer nur.Zack,zack.jawoll...! That´s british "comedy".

But the english language is only a german dialekt.Ha,ha.

  • Comment removed

  • boring.

  • you know what the great thing about german is if drill instuctors would speak german their corp would have twice as respekt as they do now :D

if you doubt that, watch full metal jacket in german :D

  • im offended and i feel german

  • And even butterfly is german. From German origin. As English is a Westgerman language.

  • do not get it...

    versteh ich nich...

  • @PriusRider that's exactly what i meant

  • 62 people are the proof that germans do not have a sense of humor ;)

  • @H8iZ1337 fuck u. we just do not get the joke...

  • I'm german. Even if i have to agree that every word sounds ugly when you scream it..."Schmetterling" as it is, is a really ugly word for this animal. Butterfly is way more pretty. A fly...like butter...softy, cute comes in my mind. But the word "schmetter" means to dash, to clash, to break something. And "ling" is just an ending to make something cuter than it actually is. So the word Schmetterling is really ugly in my opinion.

But i don't like when non-gers scream german and think it's funny.

  • Sry but Hitler comes from Austria not from germany ;)

  • @FelixxxBlackWorld

and that makes things easier or what ??

that a nation is driven by a single man in the ruins is really embarrassing...

  • Every word will sound ugly if you scream it. When is anyone ever screaming about a butterfly? Germans do not all speak like Hitler, in fact, he was austrian.

  • Comment removed

  • i'm from germany and its so funny ! :D:D

i muss be laugh so :D:D

  • @MrsCherryBlossoms Glad you have a sense of humor. Some of these people are just whining. It's only a joke. Many comedians make jokes about nationalities, that doesn't mean it's mean-spirited. I don't understand why people come to comedy posts, when they are totally humorless and just want to complain. I like comedians to make me happy, not whine about a harmless joke. Good for you for not being so touchy! Americans make fun of ourselves just as much if not more!

  • i agree, maybe all english speaking people have learned german by hitler himself!!!

i don´t think that goethe or schiller or heine were screaming their poetry!

  • @LadyMilli Wow. He's a third rate comedian and MANY comedians make jokes about nationalities. They aren't statements of reality, they are FORMULATED or CONTRIVED to make a joke. Most people do have a sense of humor and this was hardly a very serious joke. Perhaps you don't have a sense of humor because my parents are German and they found it funny. Lighten up. Why go to a comedy post to be so serious. Americans harbor no animosity towards the Germans. Again, it was just a joke. Calm down.

  • very poor humor, he just speaks like an old hitler soldier from the 2nd world war would speak and claimes all germans speak like this nowdays.

  • dude if u shout a word like this, of course it sounds frightening, this would be also with the english butterfly or the french.

  • Schmetterling pronounced normaly isnt actually that harsh of a word.

What Tim Allen didnt say what Schmetterling literally means: Smashling.

Schmetterling is a combination of the Verb "schmettern" (to smash something) and the diminuishing suffix "-ling". The words describes the gentle flaps of a butterfly as something destructive. That is the weird part.

  • @Eckendenker

But I cant blame Tim. I love Tool Time. The ideas in the show are often pretty german I think.

All those super overpowered unnecessary stuff he builds resembles the german "Etwas ordentlich machen!" "Do it right and straight!". If you build a carport, you better make sure its the goddamn best in the neighborhood. Dont forget to tell all your neighbors what fine materials you used and how much effort you put in a sloppy open garage.

  • @Eckendenker I heard that the words Schmetterling and Butterfly have the same root. The word "Schmette" is an old German word for "Butter". So it is more a "Butterfliege".

  • @sollstedtcity

Wow, youre right. I didnt know that.

  • omg this screaming...i dont think that all americans are fat, stupid pigs who fight with everyone in their way...americans...poor

  • What a piteous idiot! It's just ridiculous that he perform a so pointless gag about a language, which is hundred times more expressive, complex and poetic than his.

If I would pronounciate the Spanish and Frensh word for butterfly as well as butterfly itself with such a derisory screaming, so it would be hearable as agressive and violent too!

    What a piteous idiot! x-)

  • @EdosWolf "I speak Spanish to God, Italian to women, French to men and German to my horse." -- Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor

  • @aseglkj Well, Charles V. was a foolish ignorant! x-)

And Charles V. knows only woman who speak italian and men french - very interesting!

    !!!RESPECT TO THE GERMAN-SPEAKING HORSE!!!

  • ALS OB WIR DEN GANZEN TAG SCHREIEN WÜRDEN!!! :D

  • @kingwawa187

WEISS GAR NICHT, WIE DER TROTTEL AUF DIESE IDEE KOMMT. WÜRDEN WIR DOCH NIEMALS TUN :D

  • @Mehlwurm16

ABER ECHT EY! IST WOHL SCHEINBAR UNSERE LIEBLINGSBESCHÄFTIGUNG!!! MACHEN ABER ALLE AMIS, WENN SIE UNS DEUTSCHE DURCH DEN KAKAO ZIEHEN WOLLEN!

  • LOL

  • rotflmao i love bein german

  • When i scream the word butterfly aggressively with 110db it would sound like hitler too...^^

  • You just have to sound it right, don't scream it. then it's a nice little word.

  • Schmetterling sounds cute :D

  • schmettern in german also mean to throw something really hard. XD

  • okay das ist übertrieben

  • German is a hard language?! I only say TOOTHBRUSH!!!!!!!

  • german is an ugly language to those who dont speak it themselves. most foreigners i talked to, who aquired german language skills to the point where they can read and understand german poems of the era of geman romanticism, find it a surprisingly beautiful and very poetic language.

  • i guess german is not the most beautiful language in the world, but if you scream a word like he does in the video, its for sure that its sounds really bad and aggressive.

  • SCHMETTERLING!!

  • I'm German and I approve this joke. It's an awesome language. Highly efficient and versatile.

  • That is really funny. But we don´t scream all the time. ;-)

But I think it is true that German is not the most beautiful language in the world.

  • And we germans think the arabs screams when they talk O.o we germans whisper all the time lol

  • It's sad. Why do American's think we scream the whole time? I don't get it! Even Sarah Chalke, who often WAS in Germany, screamed in an interview with the american reporter in german. ( /watch?v=cjV-4CtiIV0 ) Yes, there was a guy, who talked like this, but Hitler is not our idol! Everything sounds weird if you scream it into the others face, not only german words.

  • @IWishWeWereNinjas it's a joke you dummy...jesus

  • omfg we don't talk like this. Schmetterling can also be pronounced in a nice way, but omfg. he is such a stupid idontknowwhat.

  • this Allen is a dirty son of a whore!

  • I find this is soooo lame ...

not because I don't have a sense of humour but because it is ALWAYS the SAME OLD JOKE based on stereotypes, light years away from reality, repeated over and over and over and over again ...

  • which year was this?

  • well, i´m german, and i laughed my f****** ass off xDD

    tim allen ♥

but i know where the "schmetterling" comes from, the word "schmetterling" comes from the czech word "smétana" and this means the milk cream. The Czech called then the butterfly "smétana" because it always, sat on the top of the milk cream and ate it. So the german word "schmetterling" comes from Czech "smétana". :)

  • @XklecksmonstaaX

  • @XklecksmonstaaX the reason is correct but wrong language. An old german word for cream is "Schmette", a "Schmetter" would be someone who likes cream, and "ling" is an ending like the italian "ino/ina" to say that someone/thing is small, "Schmetterling" means "the small one who ikes Cream"

  • @HerrderRingeFan1 well, this could be an reason, too. Perhaps we both are right!? ;) I like my explanation and yours, so yupp... this is it. I read my explanation in a book from a famous german translator, author and journalist Bastian Sick. I don't think he's wrong, but all is possible. :) so we're both right? !

  • yeah, germans don't scream all the time. bullshit!

  • SCHMETTERLING

  • haha 34 germans watched this - i gave "thumbdown" too.. hitler made us "the screaming folk" or watta frak

  • who was you german teacher, HITLER?!?!

  • So the German should have no humors?? But this should be funny?

  • it's always a question of pronunciation...

  • scream butterlfy, sounds also dumb. thank god i know some americans who are not that dumb!!!

  • @dazvegan It's comedy..idiot.

  • Wonder what the german people got to hide since they keep writing in german in here... or if they all just SUCK at writing in english.

  • @RandomID222 Is it forbidden to write in the own mother tongue? ...

  • @Bannertraeger No, but unless the clip is in german (which this isn´t) or w/e other language its usually insanely rude to others who view it. I would as said understand it more if the clip was in a specific language since there is less likelyhood that other nations would understand it in the first place. Another exception would be if youtube was only written in fx. german.

  • @RandomID222 Why shouldn't germans write in their language if someone is making jokes about them? Isn't that rude as well?

  • @Bannertraeger They got the option to "dislike" the clip then. Writing in german in comments and the movie making generalizing jokes about the german language is two completely different things. By that logic every person around the world should be writing things and act "offended" because people have different generalizations about different nationalities around the world.

Also to end this off - I obviously cant "force" people not to write in german, but this is my oppinion ;)

  • oh man thats typical american.. i´m german and we don´t speak loud. we are not old. we can hear very well
