When the US was a secular State it was on one almost uninterrupted rise to greatness, and the economic collapse comes as the separation of church and state is being eroded. Is this just a coincidence or is it an effect of a government that is making decisions through the haze of religion instead of reason? I don't think I can name a country that is both run by religion and a world leader but can name many that are absolute hell holes of oppression why would we follow their example down that path?
So he wants to help keep government and religion separate by mixing religion and politics together, lopsidedly giving religious organizations power over the shaping of government?
What about freedom of speech? It's the same old story, accept something from the government and they "own you." Maybe churches should pay taxes and become free to say what they want. The government wouldn't have to decide what's non-profit and what isn't -- but then the government would be free to "tax churches and non-profit agencies out of existence."
Assignats were paper money issued by the National Assembly in France during the French Revolution. The assignats were issued after the confiscation of church properties in 1790 because the government was bankrupt. The government thought that the financial problems could be solved by printing certificates representing the value of church properties. These church lands became known as biens nationaux. Assignats were used to successfully retire a significant portion of the national debt .
AMEND! Religion is one of the biggest businesses in America. Not only do they take money from the poor and feed them Bronze Age baloney, but they preach politics from the pulpit and push their fascist theocratic agenda on our entire nation. They are pro-war against Islamic terrorism, but not when it comes to their own religious terrorism. AMEN(D) the Tax Laws
Question; Do religious institutions in the US not pay any taxes? If so do Atheist / Agnostic or even Secular organizations not pay taxes as well?...thanks.
What a bunch of crap. He's trying to make it a church vs the state issue-as if it's only churches that can't do this-when its really a non-profit tax exemption issue.EVERY NFP/TE orginization is not allowed to officially endorse political candidates,no matter what they represent. Now a pastor not performing as a rep of the church can talk about who he endorses, but talking from the pulpit(part of his job)cannot.Amazing how the talk about seperation of church and state when they don't wanna pay tax.
I think both are stirring up an issue that does not exist. It is an old trick to bring up a court case and have one side playing both sides and the case ends up becoming a law in favor of the devils who stirred the issue.
Preachers can preach on anything and anybody. This is America.
The Roman Church is behind this. They would love to stop all speech that is against them and those they support. This would be a great way to elliminate the Protestant opposition. Protestant Churches do not receive or want Federal Funding.
The Roman Church is Government. They no longer preach Jesus Christ.
This is a direct result of President Reagans restoring of a Vatican Embassy, 1984. He was a Democrat and lied to U.S.
Political speech over the pulpit is what the 1st and 2nd Amendments are all about.
The Roman Catholic Church is the Big violator here because they are always trying to get Federal Funding for their service. FEMA, is a big bankroll for Catholic Community Services. They will be found even operating the bus systems in cities.
You have no idea of how much they have their greedy corrupt hands in. Instead of using their own funds for their community programs they try and us the governments.
Roman Catholic Church a Christian Church in name only. They are Politcal.
Our 1st and 2nd Amendments to the Constitution were put in it to keep the Roman Church out of this government because of the millions killed in the Inquesititions. Their Doctrine of "Church within the State" has them always trying to become a part of this government.
What is a Church organization doing working for FEMA?
And now we have the Question of Political Speech over the Pulpit?
Since when does the government have a right to censor or threaten to take away non-profet status of Churchs.
The Roman Catholic Church which takes Government funding for many of its programs is behind this issue.
Most if any Protestant Churchs to not receive federal funding, but Catholic Comunity Services does which is a NON-Profet organization. They are involved with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and a host of Medical progams. They are all over the country.
i agree that if they want to play partison politics then they should lose tax-free status.
Churches determining whos side god is on is dangerous.
It sort of happens by nature in speeches, but to make it official is as bad as those special religious colleges that breed students to go into politics just to christianise our government, putting their religion above the peoples wishes.
That fellow that says preachers haven't got the right to free speech? Bull! They do, but they haven't got the 'right' to be tax-exempt at the same time, if they endorse candidates.
I think we are still a long way from denying Christian denominations tax exempt status as long as the church of $cientology is granted it. America, isn't it great?
You don't have to give money to the church. It is encouraged but they don't tell you that you have to give. Considering all the taxes the government places on everything that you have to pay, I think politicians are the ones that really care only about money!
Also, the church has not and will not officially endorse a candidate. What they do ask is that there is an examination of conscience when deciding who to vote for. And I think that as long as life issues such as abortion, and gay marriage are a part of the political debate and are supported by the democratic party, we can not morally vote for them. This doesn't mean we should vote Republican because frankly they aren't the right choice either.

For all the wars, brutality, misogyny, homophobia, and racism that Religious Dogma brings to mankind, they should have to pay taxes anyway!
BUT if you insist on bringing your hate filled, archaic and brutal message of division into State affaires then PAY your fucking taxes ASSHOLES!

Those who support corruption are corrupt!
You can't pray that away.
Church and state are seperate.. Keep religious manipulation in the home.
Do not discredit our religious beliefs, with your political belief.
Pastors are discrediting our religion, by manipulating votes as a political party.
Shame on you. You should be taxed, you are corrupt. I am ashamed by you.
How can we convert and enlighten, when you show the world we support the current republican corruption.
Sarah is too.
