If that's the same cylindrical display shown at SIGGRAPH several years ago, I wouldn't put much stock in it. If you look at it in real life, the refresh rate is horrible. Flat screen 3D is the way of the future.

It's incredibly simple. The LED screen is horizontal to the viewer and a spinning mirror on an angle reflects the image on the screen. The screen changes the images 360 times per revolution of the mirror. It's not a true volumetric projection like in the star wars movie. It requires a mirror that is spinning at least 13 times a second. A volumetric projection like in star wars does currently exist but it's very primitive.
