The display doesn't use the full screen (3/4 inches from top and bottom has become black). It does not become a horizontal line (like a star war's sword in this video) but it flickers up and down. Touching the monitor also does not help.
I'm confused whether it is the monitor or my graphic card? ( sorry, wrong place to ask but any help will be appreciated)
@niiikhiiil The easiest way to test it is to try connecting another monitor. Or make a video and post it to YouTube, look at how much advice I’ve got already. :-)
@niiikhiiil Bad electrolytic capacitor in the vertical section. Change the vertcal IC at the same time. This problem here is a bad IC, solder joint, or both.
Hi, you have problems with cold solder type, there are false contacts, the solution is to resolder the vertical defletion integrated circuit and that´s it. So when you play your hand the surface of monitor, it works normal; because the pins of integrated circuit maken contact again with the integrated circuit motherboard monitor.
dela stage that problem is if you're not technical vertical take it to a technician and welding esplicale is loose in the vertical stage, but do not believe that this information offers you will consider the price. good luck!
Okay lets put an end to this and answer this for others with the same issue.
The vertical deflection IC is shot it also probably took out the supply resistor on the Voltage Supply pin. Replace both and you will be back in business.
It's probably just a dry joint in the vertical circuit, most probably on the vertical chip / transistor. Search for it in the middle section of the board inside the monitor. You cannot miss it. The chip is found attached to a heat sink. A dry joint is easy to spot ... you just need to know how to resolder it !
@era2817 Had this prob around last DECEMBER .....took it to a guy who repairs TV monitors........he changed some chip inside the BOARD (he called it IC chip) ...cost me around 300 INR ............but its better than buying a new one! :)
@era2817 I know whats the problem, most case scenario its a reflection coil malfunction. Try finding out if the reflection coil is connected properly. WARNING! DO NOT TOUCH THE TUBE WHEN TRYING TO FIX IT!
@era2817 It might be bad soldering if things happen like this on the video!Open the monitor housing, and check solderings on the plate of the unit!It also can be broken potentiometers inside,if there is one, maybe dirt on the potentiometers too!Solder all parts that seems to be loosy!
Well i think the reflection coil isnt working properly, take apart the case and put a volt meter on the reflection coil, if its not working try to find the wire that leads to the coil and try to plug it into the outlet where it needs to.
@Fooster how do you think it's fake? its not, really the vertical amplifer in the monitor is weak and blown. and its not gay, how could an OBJECT be gay?
captain150 below is correct, what you've got going on there is an FTB collapse (frame time base). Look on the back of the tube, check for obvious dry joints. There will be 4 wires joining the scan coils, two will go back near the line output transformer (big black thing). leave those alone and trace the other two cables back. they are the frame output. check around the base of these and look for two heatsinked transistors or a darlington pair (google it). easy faut. TV engineer 20years
This is caused by the failure of one of the large capacitors that operates the CRT display. Basically, it means it is time to upgrade to an LCD (flat screen). CRTs are not worth repairing.
@powermaks well its long gone now, must be a good 2 years since it was in the house. It got to the stage where it would only work for like 2 minutes a time so it got binned
@conman33311 I used magnets to degauss these old CRT monitors not having degauss function. However, this problem is probably made by wrong electrical contact in the vertical ray control.
Its a Vertical Deflection issue. Best way to fix it is to open up the monitor and makesure that on the tube section on the motherboard all pins there is properly soldered. The Vertical Deflection problem is caused mainly because of heat wearing out the solder on that section in the monitor's motherboard overtime. Its an easy fix. (I have repaired many CRT TV's all with the same problem)
@felipebrasil5 and I've got flat, fast, great quality, >140Hz refresh rate, 22" CRT (IBM c220p - one of the latest crts; designers were main target ) with a resolutions (I'm laughing at LCD's native resolutions) up to 2048x1536 for JUST ₤35 (~$55). Prolly the one and only thing where you've got an advantage is power usage :P (and maybe bit more space). Most people do not need CRT today, but as avid on-line FPS gamer I do prefer it. Maybe today's top flats can match my CRT, but for what price?

DIE MONITOR DIE!!! XP
last time i saw something like this happen was when my dads video card started dying but i made it less serious by lowering the refresh rate on the pc and it just has funny lines of darker screen now.
my monitor is dying see my "Monitor problems" video on my channel. what mine is doing is when u first turn it on it has a bow tie or hourglass shrunk look and it stays that way till it warms up then its fine but if mine dies completely ill shoot it myself. hahaha my crt inverted the colours and i thought there was magnetic interference so i went into the OSD and selected 'Degauss'. After that it completely died. Soon after i bought a cheap tft monitor off of ebay.
I have encountered a different failure of my crt monitor. At first the picture started fading black and then the right edge stretched inward, the left side had a curve and then the whole image started stretching vertically outward, and then wabbled and flickered, the signal was messed up. This was accuring in approx 10 seconds. Then I turned it off and back on and managed to change the resolution to 800x600, but no use, it died. Could someone inform me what caused this fenomenon?
haha fucked... my uncles tv done something like this except it was leathal says the guy in the store he knew, one of some voltage regulator thingy inside had blew and the tv would occasionally do this but bang loud aswell the guy says it was high voltage fuckign up the inside because of this thingy that broke lol
Same thing happened to a CRT monitor my cousins once owned years ago. I was using their computer when it did exactly the same thing. I freaked out, but my cousins told me to just nudge the top of the of the monitor, which made it work again. Strange phenomenon.
My friend's basement TV(a 27-inch Sanyo from, probably, 1992) had that same problem. Sometimes it would be the colors of the current picture, and other times it would be green on the left and white on the right. She and her little brother would pound it so hard to get it to work that it eventually gave up the ghost and they bought a new LCD TV.
I had a 1992 Panasonic TV from garbage day that did that. It wasn't worth my time (I will only repair TVs that were made before 1981, or Sony TVs made in the '80s), so I threw it away. I could have repaired it, but I didn't feel like it.
Hi, I am no expert, so I can give you common advice only. Try to change the suspicious device for a similar one. You can borrow a cable or monitor (I'm not sure if your cable is not a part of the monitor) from a friend and look for what the problem makes.
Dude thanks for the reply, and there's a hole in the VGA cable, not part of the monitor (detatchable), and I have another monitor that's in my basement (flat pannel 15.4" LCD screen). Thanks, though.
Seems to be either dry solder joints or a failed ground connection. My favourite CRT failure has to be one line of red, green and blue across the middle with or without any input. If the display was making an audible crackling sound this is breakdown of insulation materials or more likely arcing due to dry joints. Not all the time, but likely to be.
This is exactly what happened to my father's previous TV set. The only solution is to replace it as the internal voltage makes it too dangerous for any user, technician or service personnel to repair.
Time for a visit to the thrift store...

Lol @ LiquidOxygen
Seems to be either dry solder joints or a failed ground connection. My favourite CRT failure has to be one line of red, green and blue across the middle with or without any input. If the display was making an audible crackling sound this is breakdown of insulation materials or more likely arcing due to dry joints. Not all the time, but likely to be.

This is exactly what happened to my father's previous TV set. The only solution is to replace it as the internal voltage makes it too dangerous for any user, technician or service personnel to repair.
