  • It's spelled "Godin," Paul. Not "Godan."

  • Does it have short scale? What is its lenght?

  • This one or progression ?? Which one ??

  • I was more amazed by your shreding then the guitar LOL

  • thi is pure pack of shit.......WHERE IS THE MUSIC?...

  • VERY ENERGETIC SOUND MAN!

  • upper harmonics of that in the clean section aren't too pretty haha

  • Is it possible to just swap the single-coil pickups with any passive stack pickup, and still work the HDR active boost?

  • yeah fool! canada!

  • sirens lolwut

  • i hate active systems-____- and yet i play my acoustic through an amp everyday

  • i hate active systems-____-

  • The tone in 2:45 is damn close to the one on Larger than Life by Kiss.

  • because of the hdr switch does that mean if i set it to passive i can leave the lead in the guitar wiht out it draining the battery?

  • this guy does an awesome job. If I'm considering a new guitar, I check to see if he's done a review.

  • Paul's good but has a faggy haircut

  • @MyJarOfFlies And faggy voice !XD

  • Being that the parts are made in Quebec I,m concerned the neck may want to sepatate from the body if it chose to do so unless the right tunes are played or are there extra special screws to secure it that other guitars don,t need?

  • gay stick that battery in your ........ ANGINA

  • Being from quebec "Godan" would be the france french way of saying it. Tough to spell this one out but "Guhdein" without fully sounding out the N is correct. I love the features of this guitar, but i wish it had more finish options like the freeway classic. I dig the slab of tree look, but the blue flame with maple fretboard on the freeway is gorgeous. Also, I usually don't like guitar world reviews, but I think Paul did a great job with this one.

  • I now have a serious case of WANT

  • I WANT IT SOOO BAD !!

  • It looks like he's holding a tree :\ i can appreciate it but its just not my taste

  • @Arvak777 It's wood....no duh.

  • @shipleyshipster but its too woody! :P

  • @Arvak777 the wood....is too woody? I'm so confused.

  • @shipleyshipster Lol it is It looks like this one doesnt have finish at all. xD

  • That means that silverstein has guitars like this because they live in Canada

  • Is this guitar good for butt rock?

  • PAUL! IT's Godin! Not Godan!

  • Wow those frets do look really nice built!

They shine!!, I felt in love with that fretboard..

  • che frocione

  • Not gonna lie but strat type bodied guitars piss me off so much. I don't mean to say that there was not a similar design before the Fender Strat but the overused shape makes me not want to buy guitars. Weird, eh, I know.

Its just something that pisses me off big time lol.

Any other copy is ok but I think I'm sick of seeing all of these strat look-a-likes.

  • @AirHendrix91 I know what you mean, my first guitar was a strat copy and now I can't stand them

  • @AirHendrix91 I love the shape, so classy. But guitar companys need to get more creative even subtle changes to a common body shape would make a huge difference. Guitar companys know that they don't have to do anything fresh anymore since they know all the little 16 year old pimple faced twats who have rich parents just want whatever they're favorite guitar hero plays. Mainly fender and gibson though there are lots of other brands that strive to do new things.

  • Ya it's funny Godin is a Canadian company but assembled at the Washburn factory in the US lol.

  • Which kind of frets?

  • ok i'm faced with a bit of a delema here: i like this guitar a lot as far as its looks and functionality go, but is it good for metal? Im interested in versatility. does this stock guitar do well for everything, or should i swap pickups or get a pedal to get a more metal sound for when i play slayer and metallica and such?

  • @manbearpig91 wondering the exact same thing, im a classic player for the most part but i also like doing the occasional metallica gig, hopefully someone has an answer

  • @manbearpig91 i dont own it but ive played around with it and it can get some pretty good metal tones out of it. and i was just using a little roland combo amp so it should be pretty good if you have even better equipment haha

  • Good review.

  • i looking to buy a guitar at around 800 to 1000 dollars what would any of you recommend.

  • @dacorner8 depends on what type of music you play, what sounds best to you, and what feels best to you. ibanez is pretty good though. i dont like fender too much, it feels bad to my hands.

  • @dacorner8 depends on what type of music you play, what sounds best to you, and what feels best to you. ibanez is pretty good though. i dont like fender too much, it feels bad to my hands. ibanez are pretty cheap and made perfectly.

  • I hate that noise Paul makes with his mouth every time before he talks.

  • Dammit, now that is gonna bug the crap outa me...

  • Well you gotta compare and contrast and decide which one you would prefer. The Velocity is a more versatile guitar but the Les Paul is a classic for rock.

  • Thes axes kick arse!!! sooo solidly built and heavy, they sustain forever, best bang for buck!

  • I whole-heartedly recomend these guitars to anyone. These are pro quality at fender mim prices! Spend a few more dollars in upgraded hardware and electronics on these things and yer very easily into custom shop quality level guitar! My 90's Artisan ST HSS blows away any modern Fender, or post Fender Charvel product clean outta the water...before mods!

  • I own a 90's Godin Artisan ST hss and a Freeway classic hsh and the Velocity or the Progression is next on my list. Although I'm not totally in love with some of Robert Godin's asthetic ideas....I simply cannot fault the incredible quality of Godin guitars. I paid 500.00 Can. for my Freeway, and I haven't been able to part with it 'cos it just plays and feels so damn good! I have played all kinds of strats, from mim's to custom shops and they all feel like crap compared to my 500.00 Freeway!

  • What is better this guitar of epiphone les paul

  • They can't be compared, they're not even similar in style.

  • These guitar's are expensive!I think you're way better off with Carvin or Brian Moore in this price range.Carvin shows an attention to detail I've never seen in another guitar company.

  • I'd like to clarify this. This guitar is not that expensive, it retails for about 850CAD$ at my local shop and from my personal stand point, it competes nicely with the Fender American Standart that are in the same price range.

  • actually most of them are verry modestly priced

  • can sum one tell me the diffrents between passive and active???

  • @sexyduck69 Some guitar pickups just lay there and magnetically measure the vibrations of the strings, it works just fine. But you can make the signal more powerful if you run an electrical signal through them, usually with a battery, it's sort of like pre-amplifying the signal in an amp (usually called gain). So the signal goes to the amp already pumped up a bit, which is great if you're gonna crank out some rough, loud riffage.

It also allows you to get that distorted sound at lower volumes

  • The active pick ups has more power, gain and hot sound, while passive has less attack. However, that depends of pick up´s quality and price . Many players use active, but also many players use passive ´cause don´t have to think about battery change. lol

  • passives dont run on a 9 volt batterie and actives do

  • are those pickups normally passive? the sound of them as passive isnt wrecked just because of this active/passive switch thing is it?

  • They don't really turn active, that button is just an active EQ/Preamp, which makes it sound similar to how active do.

  • if i dont want the active sound, then i dont need the nine-volt battery right?

  • None, with the switch you can choose between active and passive.

But passive creates a new world of sounds.

Anyway, you shouldn't place batteries if you don't use the active part. :)

  • no the nine volt is only for the actives

  • @fallingspears77 No, the passive sound will just run without the battery. However it will be worth it to carry the 9volt. Active pickups always have an awesome sound. Just sucks to constantly replace the battery. But it's worth it in my opinion.

  • Great review. The guy even plays well.

  • Two years ago I had to choose between some relatively affordable guitars, and when I already thought I'll go for a $500 Ibanez, I discovered Godin guitars and they blew me away the same second! I guess that "made in America" label still means "this is quality, not some Asian shit". In love with Godin guitars since then.

  • Godin is from canada

  • Actually, it's "assembled in the USA from parts hand-crafted in Canada". Sorry if I insulted anyone, none the less, they are still North-American product and they rock!

  • one of my friends has one of these there awesome guitars

  • I have a Godin Redline 2 with emgs and its a dream guitar! Godin Rules for sure!

  • i think that hdr switch just makes the sound more brighter..i like my tone warm.

  • definitely and the guitar is bright 2 begin with

  • it is made in North America!!!

  • or a gibson bfg

  • or a john 5 telecaster

  • im looking for a guitar with a humbucker at the bridge a single coil at the neck and thats it, if you could give me some suggestions it would be highly appreciated, thanks

  • fender hss stratocaster

  • old charvel model series have hum bridge, and single neck, there really good for the $ too.i love my 88 model 6

  • fender lonestar strat ?

  • duesemberg guitars.

  • haha quebec made! i live 2 mins from the manufacture

  • Godin Rules!!!!!!

  • the sound is louder when he switched on the active pickup switch. Does it mean that guitar with active pickups is always louder and better than passive pickups? Any comment on that.

  • Louder and noiseless, but better..... dunno..!!!

  • passif should sound more vintage

  • it really depends on what you want, i play metal and use actives for more high gain awesomeness. Passives are more for blues jazz and classic rock in my opinion

  • passive SD pickups in an alder body=metal awesomeness (e.g. Megadeth Holy Wars)

  • what I should buy if I want a versatile guitar, nice price and better features?

godin velocity or godit summit ct?.., coz the first one cost $900 and the secod $1000....

thanks in advance for any reply!!!!!!!!!!

  • i would go with the velocity because it has a humbucker and single coils and the summit only has humbuckers.

  • Well, its really apples and oranges my friend. The CT is basically the "Les Paul" and the Velocity is the "Strat" with added versatility, so it depends on which sonic camp you fall into. If what you're saying is correct about the pricing, these have to be the best value in guitars today! Forget all the low-end ESP's and Schecters (as good as they are...). I wish I knew what kind of Amp Paul is playing through here because the Tone is excellent. Peace. -dave

  • what do u guys think of this reviewer as a guitarist?

  • I think he's really good. And he seems very down to earth too. If he's in a band, I'll bet the band smokes if they're all on his level as musicians.

  • Hes not diverse at all, he plays preactically the same things every video - and, this being my primary complant, he just doesnt get that good a tone, regardless of the gear he's reviewing.

  • this one sounds awesome!

  • Nice Guitar nice song i hav this guitar and this a good buy !

  • Sounds good. This a good buy?

  • I think so i sujest trying one

  • "no frills" usually means there's nothing extra special or pretty on it, so basically it's not overly expensive.

Most if not all Gibson Les Pauls have WAY too many frills, for example.

  • what is a frill? please reply, i will appreciate your help

  • hhhhmmmm? no frilly bits as i can see!

  • unnecessary or useless feature.

for instance "hey my toaster chills my drinks while it toasts" would be frill.

  • Why do guitar manufactures insist on using poplar?

    It has no depth!

  • i have a La Patrie Etude and i love it

La Patrie is part of Godin so i am considering this guitar

    Sounds awesome!

  • GODAN lmao

  • "Godan" it's Godin not Godan! haha

  • I assume it's a french name, so Godan would be the correct way to pronounce it.

  • well the guys from godin dont pronounce it as godan

  • @C7Blackjack yes that right...there made in quebec and usa

  • @C7Blackjack Not even, I'm French and you really can't pronounce it in English. It in is like a person imitating a buzzer. EINNNNNN...not ann. I don't know if you understand, just thought I'd say it. I've played some Godin guitars, they're not really designed for metal, but they're great for clean stuff, or blues, or classic rock even. My friend actually has a Godin.

  • Actually the guys from godin do pronounce it Godan

  • Simply put, Godin is a french canadian name, and there's no way to say it the right way in english.

  • Great review! And a really versatile instrument, it seems.

  • I heard a siren in the backround at 0:40-0:50

  • canada!!!!

  • yeah CANADA! lol

  • thats a cool sounding guitar, cool licks as well

  • nice guitar :) jai la meme yaya

  • quebec is a province/city in canada.....I come from there

  • @taylorrichard i love québec city and i miss it there

  • nice guitar

    happy halloween to u all

  • yeah, you too man. Have a good night and stay safe.

  • Paul Riario, I want your job. GW, can you do an online audition for Guitar Reviewers?

    BTW, nice guitar.

  • yeah he has like the greatest job ever. such a lucky dude. and im sure he likes doing what he does. a truly blessed man

  • You should go do guitar videos for Guitar Player instead. Right now they only have Jimmy Leslie doing their videos and he's really hard to watch. They need someone much better.

  • Nice guitar.

  • how much does it cost?

  • LOL I really think he needs to get his act together...I love his reviews but that is just insulting to all we canadians!

  • Wow, you could make a drinking game out of how many times he says "guitar"!

  • haha its and HD guitar.

i like the clean tones and low gain tones on this guitar

  • HATERS!!!!!!!! thats a nice guitar too =]

  • Nice guitar, They look very awesome!
