0:56 was actually 1979. Sure there was a massive wreck that Benny Parsons said looked like a plane crash, but 1979 had the wreck that happend in two waves that wiped out 17 or more cars.
its a big fast race track i do believe it was to big at the time for the cars speed and safety aspect but as far as the sabatagde of the cars that i am sure was just a wrong doing of some one within the sport who was desperate of almost anything to win or even survive in the series power can cause people to do things they would not normally do
other than davey allison's chopper crash, virtually every single element of weirdness at talladega has been associated with pure unadulterated speed. pure and simple.
Higgins is wrong about Issac - what Issac said was "something told me to get out of the car." That "something" was Issac's heart - he was scared of having a heart attack.
Answering Tom Higgins' question about the Talladega Jinx - I'd say it's long dead. The October Diehard 500 has had a lot of enormously competitive racing but next to nothing in the way of weirdness - the only first-timer from this race since 1988 was Brian Vickers.
@miles24fig I have a possible solution to the minor fatal crash. He may have died before he hit the wall. He may have had a heart attack, or a stroke in the car.
@jamespic he would probal cut a tire like bobby allison spin fly up and go INTO THE GRANDSTANDS not hitting the fence killing him and dozens and dozens of people thats a good jamespic
few years ago (2002 or 2003) at the EA Sports 500, Mark Martin was starting 2nd, Johnson was starting 1st. Martin lost steering during the pacelaps and took himself and Johnson out before the race even started. They never found any problem with martin's steering either, though he said it 'locked up'.
no, trust me nascarfanfedex11, the narrator is talking about the "huge crash that came in 2 waves and took out 1/2 the field" in 1973 when your watching the tiny lund crash that happened in 1975. freeze frame it at 56 sec and keep doin it. what you first see is terry links pontiac just a milli second after he hits lunds car, but you can see a slight cloud of smoke where it did first hit it, and the 2 cars stay in the t-boned position clear to turn 3. listen to it without that guy talking
at 56 sec. into this is the actual crash that took the life of tiny lund. the narrator is talking about a massive crash in 1973 at the time of the lund crash, so that made me not look at it closely. but if you keep freeze framing it youll see the red #30, ballard, on the bottom left and jd mcduffie headed for the wall on the bottom right, terry link hits lunds car on the left side of screen and pushes it clear to turn 3, it goes out of sight momemtarily, then comes back. thank you kk3869
I remember the 'curse' subject coming up after Phil Parson's wild flip in the 1983 Winston 500. And yes, the medicine man does look like death-warmed-over Keith Richards lol.
im grateful for the talladega curse video. in that video just after the hawaiian tropic on track part theres a car flipping and it looks like the driver came out of the car. does anyone know who it is? also is there any footage in the video of the actual tiny lund/terry link/jd mcduffie/walter ballard crash? i see the wrecker haulin them away afterwards. if not, does anyone know where i could find such a thing? thank you
wait just at the latest tally race #43 was running up high and then suddenly, for no reason his car started 2 slide down the track, hitting Kyle Busch and starting the "big one"
Hey, I liked him too, but be real. He'd be headed for 50, and when he died he had 19 wins in nearly 200 starts. There are plenty of showings by other drivers that are as good, if not better.
If he was alive now he'd be competing with the likes of Gordon, Johnson, Stewart and others and trying to cope with the COT.
"Best" would be a pretty dubious claim for a guy who never won a championship just because he won 5 races twice.
ya and he also had his life CUT SHORT, just like gilles villenuve, he didn't have enough time to win a championship and the man even said that he wouldnt have 7 championships if Davey were still around
hmmm it makes you wonder sometimes. maybe its just coincidence or maybe it really is a curse. but you know nothing has really happend since the death of alison .
another wierd thing they missed about that race was there was a driver killed in the most harmless accident, the crew was ready for the car to race again, but they found out their driver was killed
That was Larry Smith in the 1973 race. He took the padding out of his helmet because it was irritating his scalp. He then cut down a tire and drove around for two laps, trying to impress the executives from his sponsor, Carling, but crashed and died.
hmmm i guess your right, but i didnt know tiny lund was killed either. and that bobby issac thing. and bobby allison. and what about earnhardt flipping in '96? well great video
