  • 2:38 Holy Fucking Shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now that is how a band should be. Simply the best rock band ever to grace this earth. God bless you Phil.

  • 2:19 anyone? Thats for all the dubstep fans.

  • @ufofan1980 Good one. lol

  • Severely serious!

  • I remember watching this at the time, and they played Back On The Streets before this, which was the single from Gary Moore's Back On The Streets album

  • Thi is stunning - Philo is so missed it still hurts after all these years, and now Gary is gone too - no Philo No lizzy

  • Gary Had A Great Voice Too !!!!

  • and Don Airey on keyboards

  • as always.. Moore's pulling all the covers .. takin too much room in the song..playin far too loud.. and Phil smiling.. :o )

  • Was that Cozy on drums?!

  • I met all the members of Thin lLzzy around the time of the Greedy Bastards in a pub in Camden; Phil bought me a pint, I had a long chat with Scott in the bog, Brian Downey was painfully shy and Gary Moore was disrespectful. As a long-standing Lizzy fan I understand the animosity towards Gary Moore, he was definately the worst thing that ever happened to Lizzy, genius guitarist or not; but the sentiments and language in some of these posts is beyond the pale, show some respect please

    Nick

  • i watch the documentary last night about them, apart from phill's death. one of the big Stumbling blocks i saw right from the start, was the harmony in the band was dreadful. people kept coming in coming out like a revolving door, they were fighting when they should of been packing for a massive U.S tours and then came excessive drink and drugs. god i love that band but they had no clue how to keep it together.

  • I love Thin Lizzy.

  • |Gary Moore, Phil Lynnot , Scott Ghoram and Cozy Powell Rules!!!

  • Thiz lizzy, gary more and cozy powell = the best sound of ever!!!!

  • I saw this when it was originally broadcast on The Old Grey Whistle Test. Thank you to all those that made it possible to see it again.

  • Who else besides Gary Moore could shred and give the finger on tv?

  • So cool. Definition of rock 'n roll.

  • wow, can't believe I haven't seen this before. Proper good.

  • Good God, Gary left it ALL on stage, the very essence of life and it's wonder was given with no holding back. For a man who brought such love, joy and magic to so many souls the good Lord decided his passing would be painless. If anyone ever deserved it?

  • Brilliant. They're what rock music is all about.

  • OOoh.. Only knew the Johnny the Fox version.... what a great band, Phil and Gary,,,, You live forever via the great music we love..

  • shut your eyes and the guitar solo sounds a little like Carlos Santana; uncanny

...i guess the guy listened to a bit

  • this has to be the most electric video ive seen from them

  • yeh not many guitarists would still pull it off withe their top string (6th) snapped!!!!!

  • if someone would listen to me for 2 secs....GARY MOORE IS A CUNT...he thinks he is something he's not....wish i could stick my foot up his cunt so he would piss out of his mouth for a week...THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME....

  • @jodonte1 Really clued-up music fan you are my friend?? show some respect for one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived, sadly Gary Moore is no longer on this planet, but even more sadly..you are

  • @redcarpdog please don't tell me gary is dead....isn't it sad that people like me live on, and your piece of shit guitarist is not....just to let you know fuckwit...the WORST thing that ever happened to thin lizzy was gary...he was just a cunt, and if you didn't figure it out back then,,,, then you are a cunt too.........

  • @jodonte1 Nasty !!! Think you got a problem - try cure it by stickin your head down a toilet bowl and breathin in real real deep - there now .... bet you feel right at home .... slan abhaile !!!

  • @jodonte1 Gonna be kind of hard to do that since he is dead.

  • That sounds very much like Peter Greens (Fleetwood Mac) influence on the solo Garry Moore played, I reckon that is probably Peter's Les Paul too ... even played it with only 5 strings ... awesome ... Thin Lizzy ... amazing band.

  • Phil's bass tone is awesome! Nobody knows how to play bass these days.

  • God I get goosebumps from watching this! Incredible and awsome!

  • turn it up gary we can't hear you

  • phil and gary two dead legends

  • you can thank the music industry itself for why we dont have bands like this or Free, or The Jimi Hendrix Experience anymore...

  • Incredible, even with 5 strings! ..I feel so priveledged to have been alive to see these guys.. Thanks so much for posting

  • thin lizzy with cozy powell on drums what would a ticket for that gig be

  • Oh man.... I remember this like yesterday, just think what Lynot and Moore could have should have produced IF they'd still be alive...

  • R.I.P Phil and Gary

  • so Soulful..damn this is tasty!

  • Comment removed

  • what year was this recorded

  • @rwendell0912 I would imagine they were promoting Gary Moore's solo album Back on the Streets in 1978/79, although this song was Thin Lizzy's it did appear on that album with this arrangement.

  • This cranks up amazingly at the end.

  • Phil, what a guy, god bless.......

  • Phil Lynott was a rock god.

  • Amazing version!! ^^

  • 14 justin beber fans dislike real live music, you fucking twats..............

  • Always a pleasure to listen to Phil : ) and Thin Lizzy

  • keep all your rap this the BEST it gets

    R I P PHIL

  • top upload mate

  • Surprised to see Cozy Powell on the drums

  • You will never again see music like that. The future lies in the past.

  • An IMMEBSE Iconic Perfomance...By The GREATEST Band..On The GREATEST Ever Rock n Roll Show

  • 2:42 THE POWER OF THIN LIZZY

  • awesome

  • phuck!!!

  • of the boys on stage in this vid there's only Scott left now that's sad really really sad

  • May Gary Moore and Phil Lynott live on forever!

  • I soiled myself at 3:20. Holy shit. This is intense. You either believe it or you don't, you can't manufacture this

  • I photographed Thin Lizzy in 1977 when they opened for Queen in Canada. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • @mrianmark Thin Liz opening for Queen, wow now thats what i call value for money ticket buying. must of been a great night.

  • the 12 people who disliked this video are all current or former members of the x factor cast total retards who are tone death and only know how to make the sort of jls pop rubbish thats rammed down our throats everyday damn them tey killed rock music gary will get them with his les paul and haunt the motherfuckers and why is gary not in the rock n roll hall of fame bloody travesty

  • @shredmaster100

    ...aaaaand breathe

  • Geezus is there a style they could "not" nail....? Amazing group.

  • Gary Moore did have a broken string, and it is testament to his musicianship that he still played a faultless track with the other five.. What a great shame that this 'assemblage' of talent had to be wrought asunder by various forces......

  • Sad thing is they would be voted of any of the "talent'Shows of today...Would love to see the jury's faces though at the 2:41 point..

  • Gary Moore, Phil Lynott and Scott Gorham on the same stage all at once......eargasmic!

  • A fantastic song from a brilliant live band.Lynnot's self destruct button was such a waste. Although Lizzy's race was probably run they had much more to offer.

  • RIP boys you rock......

  • Never saw is before.. WOW.. Absolutely ripping....!

  • I feel so blessed to have seen gary and phil live when they were still with us RIP brothers!

  • 2:17 who is he giving the bird to?

  • @gav240z i think he is just pointing a finger, just happens to be his middle one cause he's holding a pick.

  • Gary didn't need that E string anyway. R.I.P. Gary we love you.

  • Cant Believe 12 People Hate This Stunning Version....whoever you are..Sad people u are.

  • epic performance, RIP Gary and Phil.

  • what a great great band and line up here. And a big tip of the hat to the great Peter Green in Gaz's playing.

  • Some talent in that small studio..........Never knew Cozy played with Lizzy.

  • 2.42..YES!, YES!,YES!!!!

  • What year was this? Was it 1974 or 1979?

  • @eyeofset 78

  • Excellent! Saw them in '79 and Gary Moore was on fire!!

  • I cannot find an mp3 of this version of this song with Phil singing it. Bummer.

  • @Seanbo88 Download it from here using RealPlayer then use RealPlayer Converter to convert it to MP3.

  • @Seanbo88 Download the Youtube Downloader. It will let you convert video to MP3!

  • Not sure Gary Moore broke a string, he probably let it off so that his LP was a 5 stringer as played by Keith Richards?

  • best irish group ever

  • Pure Beauty....

  • i miss shows like this......and i REALLY miss bands like this! Thin lizzy kicks ass!

  • Looks like Gary Moore broke a string. That'd be a real bitch when recording a song for t.v.. He played it off well and was lucky the whole guitar didn't go wildy out of tune as is often the case when a string breaks. I imagine Gary broke thousands of strings in his day. His aggressive style of guitar playing would have wreaked havoc on strings and frets alike. Gary attacked guitar like no one else. It helped set him apart.

  • Wow!!!.........BRILLIANT

  • Not sure where Brian Downey is... but just noticed this is Cozy Powell playing here!...3 great losses...R.I.P. Phillip, Cozy and Gary...all much missed!!!!

  • @stevepanaghiston The title is a bit off. This really wasn't Thin Lizzy, it was Gary Moore promoting his solo album Back On The Streets.

  • just discovered thin lizzy! im really impressed! they are really bluesy with that great irish ache that we all know and love!

  • @socrates - looks like it is and sounds like it too.

  • f**kin magic with a broken string

  • That was superb

  • Sad thing is they would be voted of any of the "talent'Shows of today...Would love to see the jury's faces though at the 2:41 point..

  • Is that a '59? it's not Greene's is it?

  • @socrates1818 yes

  • the bluesy version of this with phil and gary singing is on bonus disc of black rose.really worth getting as theres other great rare stuff on it.it was just released a few days ago and is much better than standard cd.these lizzy guys blow those u2 muppets away !!!

  • Just amazing!!

  • As it was originally written. Brilliant.

  • sounds so good still sady missed rip phil and gary

  • has gary moore got a broken string there ?

  • @tankman1962 No, He died and played a bum note :(

  • @tankman1962 It appears he does have a broken string.

  • @tankman1962 Absolutely.Looks like it broke at the saddle area.

  • The finger at 2:11 haa

  • what a line up

  • Gary and Scott in matching shoes? I thought it a shame that Gary Moore was such a great player but - as evidenced here, with Colosseum II, and his solo work - was prone to excess. He had such a melodic flair, great tone... all that sensible stuff; but simply didn't know when to stop. There are those who will disagree, but the solo in the slow part gets excessive, as does the bit at the end. For great pacing on a Les Paul, try Peter Frampton doing 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', or Paul Kossoff.

  • @MrCherryJuice Yeah I agree too, technically an amazing player but subtly was a style he rarely embraced, while were on the topic my favorite slow phrasing would have to be Sweet Dreams by a hero of gary moore's Roy Buchanan.

  • @333joemc - Yes, and how ironic for one so influenced by Peter Green (a man of subtlety, indeed) that Moore would be so bombastic. I think it was a personality issue... always wanting to prove himself for some reason. As for the phrasing thing, yes, Roy Buchannan. I'm a Jeff Beck fan, myself. And I love Mayall-era Mick Taylor ('I Started Walking' on YouTube), Danny Kirwan ('Jigsaw Puzzle Blues', etc. with Mac), Alan Darby (Cado Belle's 'September' on YouTube), and Andrew Latimer (Camel). Taste!

  • @MrCherryJuice I agree, another great Les Paul soloist is another than the great Scott Gorham, for my money that man was the perfect guitarist.

  • Rock the fuck on and RIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Inspiration.

  • What an underrated band here in the states....brilliant.

  • I cant remember if i heard this version a long long time ago.it seems familiar, but i can tell you its fucking great.Man i miss lizzy, being young and me ould lad roaring up the stairs "TURN THAT DOWN"and then muttering to himself "its not bloody music you know".The best.

  • fantastic.

  • How people dislike this is fucking unreal. People don't know music!!!!

  • fuckin Gary's away now :(

    sad

    great band, great musicians

  • sounds great, i thought this song was more upbeat than this though?

  • @g8299

    did you watch the end?

  • @elmatadorwangmachino yea but the version im familar with is upbeat thoughout. Is this how the song was orignally recorded, or was this a live version they played occasionally?

  • @g8299

The way they played it before the switch up in the video was the way the song was originally written. There are some really excellent live recordings floating around.

  • @elmatadorwangmachino thanks for the info

  • Scott and Gary Rock!

  • THIS IS THE BEST SONG I've Ever HEARd in my LIFE and I listen to music all day EVERY DAY!

  • THIS IS THE BEST SONG I've Ever HEARd in my LIFE and I listen to music all day EVERY DAY!

  • the way they combined the two versions of the songs is amazing. Gary is phenominal. It's so kick-ass

  • I was trying to figure out why people consider this band metal. At least "that metal show" is constantly mentioning this band. I'm like "Boys are back in town" is not metal. Then I found this song start out pretty mellow and then these two guys freaking out at the end. Way better than that mellow stuff. Seems like there were two bands in one here. I don't see how the bass player is that great. seems pretty normal. I like these guitar players. need to learn more about this band.

  • @mixmastermonte do you hear the tone on that bass?

  • @mixmastermonte Yes, you do definitely need to learn more aboyut this band!!

  • steel on steel on velvet

  • One of the best bassplayers I have ever come across.

  • Gary moore did a version of this on his solo albub 'Back on the Streets'

  • @doctorbasslayer It's not quite the same as this, and not as heavy towards the end, but you can hear the slow version of don't believe a word, followed by a fast version on the Gary Moore and friends tribute to phil lynott dvd. It was released a few years ago and features Moore, Downey, Robbo, Gorham and eric bell. The bass player does a good job too (can't remember his first name, but his surname is Noyce). Good dvd, but only an hour or so.

  • 11 people don't believe a word

  • @enriqueespinosa27 lts the other way around dopey

  • @enriqueespinosa27 yeah 11 people don't know, what the word music means...

  • @enriqueespinosa27 what the f***? 12 people dislikes. go away and listen to justin beiber

  • @enriqueespinosa27 hahahahahahahahaha!!!

  • OGWT: about the closest you can get today is Later with Jools Holland... same sort of idea. Cozt never toured or recorded (except sessions etc) with Lizzy... @glennw53 is spot on with Nauseef and Downey's reasons for not touring Oz. It was around Bad Reputation/Black Rose time if the grey cells are working properly......

  • OGWT: about the closest you can get today is Later with Jools Holland... same sort of idea.

  • can someone tell me the story behind the OGWT? i want a little historical context.

  • @ezrhino100 it was a music show on british tv in the '70s and early '80s. mixture of features, live performances and interviews.

  • @mistersnaredrum that's what we need now a day on TV

  • All about girls .... what honesty lol

  • My research shows that Cozy never played with Thin Lizzy???? Unless it was a fill in gig??? Any experts out there to confirm???

  • best version of this song EVER, what an ending!

  • best version of this tune is on live and dangerous, still RIP Phil and now Gary

  • What a line up, that was superb, Phil's bass was grunting like a gud un, a classic slow version that ends up ripping the place up.......love it. !!

  • Powell in the Thin Lizzy???

  • I remember seeing this on the OGWT when it came out, Gary Moore was never a Thin Lizzy guitarist, he always had his own agenda, he dropped lizzy in the shit at least twice, I've got nothing against Cozy Powell but Brian Downey left him in the dust and is one of the great unsung rock drummers, raise your flags and make it clear true lizzy fans am I wrong?

  • @thamesclipper Picked up alot from Brian D, especially his high hat and cymbal work. Great stuff! Live and Dangerous.

  • @glennw53 Why is Cozy powell playing with thin lizzy?

  • @AceSykes Never knew he did??? Not sure about that, any experts on Lizzy to confirm?

  • @glennw53 No expert but I do know that Brian Downey left the band for a while rather than go on tour to Australia cos he was knackered and fed up by all accounts - I guess it was around that time. Mark Nauseef played drums on the tour (check out the Live at Sydney clips), but it looks as though Cozy Powell (always a gun for hire who worked with just about everybody) was filling in here. So sad that Gary, Cozy and Phil are not around to tell the tale. Watching this still gives me the same kick.

  • @LlewellynDowd True Cozy was all over the place(Who wouldn't want to, and if the pay was there), but not sure if its him. As Fleetwood says "Oh Well".

  • @thamesclipper Gary Moore may well have had his own agenda, but Scott Gorham agrees that Gary was hands down the best guitarist they ever had.

  • @thamesclipper Why is Cozy powell playing with thin lizzy?

  • @thamesclipper Word

  • Even with flailing guitar strings he was an utter god.

I miss him so bad. Imagine never having a Gary Moore album again.

  • '59 LES PAUL-USED TO BE OWNED BY PETER GREEN!

  • @dirdydraws No sure if you're right on that - although visually it looks a lot like Peter Green's guitar, the neck pick-up on that instrument was reversed (screws facing away from fingerboard); the neck pick-up on this one's the right way round.

  • '59 LES PAUL-USED TO OWNED BY PETER GREEN!

  • Fantastic version of this song.

  • @exileonmainest thats the way it was originally

  • @exileonmainest even better than the original

  • who are those 11 people? what are you guys listening in order to dislike this??..

  • @choovuck I think they're the tOSU starting offense coming to Jim Tressles' defense.
