I had a chicken that laid eggs from its perch so she could smash them and eat them! She also used to come into the house at dinner time and jump on our plates. She also would chase the dog away from its dinner and try eat that too.

Wow, that IS a big chicken! So pretty, I like its coloring. And it must be happy to have someone take such good care of it. I love chickens, I would love to have some as pets if I had a place for them, I think they are cute and have great personalities. We have 5 girls who are all so gentle and friendly. Our faviourite is a Polish chicken who cuddles up in my coat a goes to sleep ; A White speckled bantam (that looks like an snowy owl with trousers) ; An Orpington Buff ; A grey Silkie with a black head and blue cheeks. We have no idea what our 5th girl is, but she has amazing colours. They are all free range and have a great life with lots of special treats. Not good egg layers though.. just very pretty and fantastic pets

In that case go for a couple of Bantams, but always get two. One would be lonely on it's own and might not lay. They need to be happy. My girls do lay and they are best tasting eggs in the world... but not many of them.

However, the bantam lays nearly everyday.

Aw, sad. One of my dreams, when I have a yard is to get a pet turkey as well as a couple chickens. My chickens napped with me, ate with me, and were very much like cats. My friend had an Aracauna, too. It was her favorite. Chickens are actually better pets IMO than parrots or other typical pet birds because you can really hug them.
