Art James did a fine job hosting this show being both serious and comical at the same time. I remember watching this on KCBS Channel 2 Saturday evenings and wish it lasted longer. At least the electronic game is out but a completely different version. The rebus puzzles would turn up on Classic Concentration two years later.
If the scoring format for this version was the same as the UK version after it (scoring on every catchphrase rather than only the Bonus Catchphrases), it might have been more successful. This version, there are virtually no chances to score and it's often the last Bonus Catchphrase that decided the game, regardless of who really did better.
Because "Catch Phrase" is brought to us by distributor Telepictures Corporation, the same company that released the popular 80's animated series "Thundercats" that year. Both are now owned by Warner Bros. Television for their library.

There's going to be a lot of "Catch Phrase" puzzles on the opening at the 3x3 grid. Can someone identify them all??

Why do all American gameshows, regardless of when they were made, look like they produced in the 1960s?

It's cool to see the first episode of Catchphrase; the game sure didn't change much over time. Thanks for the post.
