  • Norman Gunston for PM!!!

  • @BigRamifications Amusing how you chose my comment as a reference point when you've got a fine selection of gems below to choose from. P.S." 'Mrite"..nice to see you're upping the ante in today's grammar stakes. I'd rather watch Norman Gunston than the 'comedy' garbage on television today eg.The 7pm Report.

  • @BigRamifications All the more reasons as to why it's extremely funny.

  • Fuckin' pisser !!!

  • i came up with a theory that involves the book of genesis (fig leaves) buddha (sitting under the bodhi fig tree) jesus (manys sayings about figs) ross horne's book (new health revolution) and science (figs are the most important source of food for fruit eating rainforest animals). i then experiemented on the figs by eating mainly dried figs (same brand) for over 6 years now and found cycles which i related to the numbers in psgs 11/12 of the book of revelations. this theory has gone everywhere.

  • so far i have had eliminations at days 504, 840, 1176, 1512, 1848, 2184, and expect my 7th at day 2520. today is day 2324. i have definitely found something. i am not lying. what i have discovered has gone around the world and many songs have been written about it...the foo fighters last 3 albums..."vertigo" by U2 (my first name is phil)..coldplays last 2 albums. an elimination is a day when you experience strong flu-like symptoms and feel terrible. bad stuff is washed out of your body.

  • Superb Australian humour. You couldn't do this today. A rare double dissolution of federal parliament...and...Norman Gunston is there. Priceless. "It's extremely serious". I agree with grl8862's comment below: "You can't buy where Norman Gunston just was. A place in history like that! No other country on the planet could have a major political event with a light sprinkle of brilliant LIVE humour".

  • @vanessamcqueen11 UN-FARKING-BELIEVABLE. He's bailed up a future Prime Minister, a future Governor General, pulled a stupid face and stolen the show from Gough Whitlam, and yelled questions at the baying crowd below.

And they chanted back like the moron crowds chanting back at Diamond Joe Quimby.

And this was one of the most historic moments in Oz history and he's taking the piss!!? The mind boggles. This is pure Australian larrikinism boiled down to a one-minute video summary.

  • @BigRamifications Sorry, I shouldn't have compared them to the "moron crowds" from The Simpsons. A brilliant moment when the crowd laughed at themselves when Norman thanked them.

Now *THAT'S* what Australia is all about.

    'Mrite? 'Mrite?

  • julia gillard should be dismissed for back flipping on the carbon dioxide tax.

  • where are you now Gunston - we need you! the whole political landscape & powerful media influence is a joke!

  • Pretty simple the whole thing really. Kerr was a drunk. The yanks were pissed off because Whitlam pulled the chain on Vietnam, and was not happy about the lies re Pine Gap etc. And the Liberals were prepared to lie down and be a US carpet.

  • @corpbs1 Admirable sentiment but sorry to say you're wrong. The Liberal government that was in power before Whitlam made the decision to pull Australia out of Vietnam. Gough simply had the opportunity to be in power when the last troops came home from Vietnam - a symbolic act. He simply continued the policy of the previous governmenrt. (We learnt that in first year politics in uni.) You're right about the US bases on Australian soil though - the US didn't like him asking questions about that.

  • Rudd was better!

  • ..hmm, pivotal

  • You can't buy where Norman Gunston just was. A place in history like that!

No other country on the planet could have a major political event with a light sprinkle of brilliant LIVE humour.

  • @grl8862 exactly! : D

  • Australian history, and Gunston was there. Onya Gough, you were the BEST PM we've ever had.

  • fuckin pollies couldn't trust em as far as you could throw em, In the caper to line their own pockets, lets see how many of the cunts would do the job for minimum wage?

  • In 1977 there was an ABC radio interview with James Angleton, counter-intelligence chief of the CIA. The interviewer questioned Angleton about CIA communications with and payments made to John Kerr the week before the dismissal. Angleton gave ambiguous replies and admitted under questioning that the CIA were pissed with Whitlam for numerous reasons. Grab Jonathan Kwitny's THE CRIMES OF PATRIOTS off Amazon marketplace for more on this. I suspect every Oz PM since then has stepped carefully..

  • @anthonyjthorne Keep in mind that the Australian intelligence agencies are esentially-or were at least back in 1975-subsidiaries of the American CIA .

The fact was that Whitlam was the victim of a coup, a coup which ousted him because he making the necessary changes that have helped define modern and post-modern Australia and the powers that be couldn't allow that to happen.

Whitlam wanted to make direct deal with Arab power for oil and he also wanted to dismantle the US/Aussie intel set-up.

  • @MultiSmartass1 @MultiSmartass1 High rhetoric indeed. However the fact was that Gough's government was tertiary stages of terminal breakdown/implosion. However for me at least it was the seminal government that took us definitively from royalist Tories of Menzies and his evil spawn to a new age. Unfortunately Gough could not of survived another election; even a properly constituted election.

  • @kinghitz That's what they want you to think.

Whitlam stood for election after he was ousted-so much for not being able to survive another election.

If the Whitlam was foundering, why oust him in the first place? Why not try to call another election?

The fact was that Whitlam was considered enough of threat to be ousted outside of normal electoral proceedures.

How many Australian PMs have been deposed in the same way since? I rest my case.

  • GIVE GOUGH A GO!

  • I reckon Ol Bob would have been seeing his Prime Ministerial potential run right before his eyes!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Always wondered how the hell Norman got there!

  • @MrRazorspirit he's like a pubic rash: he's everywhere!

  • @weskittun asks the savvy viewer: look at it. Who beat his wife?

  • Go Norman Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lol, whose that tv personality always smiling and cracking jokes?

  • This is one of my proudest moments of being an Australian - it's classic Aussie humour and I think it represents what Australians are or can be.

  • I think this is fucking halarious, could you imagine that happening in the US or Britain, the fact that Norman wasnt pushed off by the police was fantastic. Not that it would happen now with Comrade Spin in charge

  • I love that guy, but what a travesty...even Fraser wasn't that low...but politics being what it is??, was??- never miss a chance to beat a sucker when he's down...pity Norman Gunston is involved..on the other hand . I am sure the "Liberal" government that replaced Whitlam knew it was good for Norman to be trivializing the moment

  • Good call.

If it were 50 years earlier he might have been dragged out the back and shot...

  • Comment removed

  • You couldn't have written it better if you tried!

  • I am certain Sacha Baron Cohen knows all about Norman Gunston, what a stroke of luck that Gary McDonald was in Canberra on that very day!

  • Classic bit at the end "Or was this just a stroke of good luck for Mr. Fraser".

  • Im SCREAMING with laughter over Bob Hawke saying "Ah look, its abit too serious for that" hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Norman Gunstan you little CLASSIC!!

  • 0:16, Old Hawkey.

    With Black hair.

  • HEY did gough at least get to keep the Valiant regal.

  • Kep Enderby - slow left arm. Around the wicket

  • Does anyone know who that is, advising Bob Hawke? He looks/sounds familiar!

  • preposterouscarrot put him down as Kep Enderby in a previous comment.

  • Thanks, Never heard of him. I'll google him!

  • Kep Enderby QC.

    Federal Member for ACT/NT 1970-1975

    Federal Attorney-General 1975

    NSW Supreme Court Justice

    Plays golf quite well.

  • Also an Esperantist!

  • @twisteddsister Kep Enderby

  • Go and have a look at what kind of car Title you have or House Title if you have one. Bet you dont own it . Her Majesty the Queen can take it from you anytime you Slave. :)

  • You went to a government Fool system school and you reckon your Educated. No wonder Australia is screwed. You fell for the mushroom syndrome. They kept you in the dark and fed you crap. Now your an educated Bunny Rabbit.

  • You're.

  • What you said was artistically laid out well enough to be lyrics to a song!

  • Witlam was sacked cause he was an Australian patriot. The Liberal Zionists hated him cause he was actually helping Australians. I went to University and didnt pay a cent thanks to Gough.

Problem is both parties are the same now. They have sold all Australians out.

  • Witlam was a communist prick. If someone does not pay their own way (capitalism) then it falls on the shoulders of everyone else to help burden the vacuum of debt. Higher tax brackets and no incentive to get ahead. This, in part, has caused the shithouse system we have in place at the moment.

Everyone needs to stand on their own two feet. No hand outs. No family assistance. No forced superannuation. No unemployment pension.

  • That would all be true you moron if real money existed. We dont have real money. We have pretend play money issued from the Private federal reserve Bank. So since 1933, we were sold to the IMF with a Birth Certificate Bond. All these corporations got their money to start with from us, the people so they do OWE US.

  • Are you fucking retarded? You went to university? Clown? Barber? Circulatory money whilst issued by a federal authority STILL has to represent real world economic wealth you fool!

Jesus, is this what this country is coming to? No one every time someone becomes wealthy they piss off over seas to a more sane country.

So you are telling me that we can ALL stop working now and there will be heaps of money to go around - we just need a good supply of paper to print it? Lol. Good one.

  • OK. Tell me the value of one dollar???

One kg of steak is weighable. One inch is measureable. Volume can be calculated. But your STUPID MONOPOLY MONEY has no meaning.

  • Nah, you cannot be serious, you are taking the piss are you not?

The value of money changes from moment to moment (literally) following the economy ('tis called inflation young grasshopper), but Im sure you knew that.

You are comparing constants to variables.... and then calling variables non existant just because they change! Lol.

Lets try this from another angle. What do YOU think would happen if EVERYONE went to uni and NO ONE worked to pay for the parasites? Print more money? :)

  • Can the value of your labour change then from minute to minute??? You are so brainwashed its a joke. Stay in slavery and get what you deserve.

I'm not against free enterprise with real Gold and Silver. But the One world Communist government has other plans for you. If you think the Liberal Party are gonna help think again. They are Zionist Controlled too.

  • Yes you fucking idiot! Of course it can! Value of labour changes moment to moment as well - it's called "supply and demand". Jesus, I know you didn't study economics at uni! :)

Stay in slavery? You mean "keep working"? I suppose we should all be parasites getting free uni degrees using the money of others? These are called ''deadbeats" or "parasites of society".

Your creedo must be "everyone else work and keep my worthless arse alive." Any more uni courses you would like us to pay for? :)

  • Oh how eloquently you express the opinions (propoganda) of the neo-fascist, quasi-psychopath (capitalist) run media. I suggest you go read a book or two (maybe The Capitalist Delision by Bob Ellis), engage your brain, then try forming your own opinions. Please spare us the regurgitated, retarded crap that your God, Rupert Murdoch, would have you believe.

Regarding the falsity of money, I'd suggest you download the film Zeitgeist Addendum for some further enlightenment.

  • Lol. "propoganda", "neo-fascist" AND "quasi-psychopath... and all in the same sentence! Ive struck pseudo-intellectual gold! :)

Its funny how the dim of thought love to regurtitate the works of others in ORDER to preach against regurgitating of others! Irony anyone? :)

Oh, and the only "people", and I use the term lightly, that ever regard the "falsity of money" are hippies and pennyless poms... my only question is, which are you?

P.S. - Rupert isnt my god, Rolf Harris is... :)

  • Oh please spare me. Do I have to spell it out for you? "Neo-fascist" refers to corporate structure and "quasi-psychopath" refers to the total lack of empathy being practiced by the same corporations and exhibited by individuals like yourself. You feel no empathy for those that are laid off by giant corporations in order that their CEO can have a $2M payrise or anonymous shareholders can get a larger share dividends. You would label these people as "losers" and "whingers".

  • Lol, it gets better! Spare you?! "Neo-fascist"... "qusi-psychopath"... and you want me to spare YOU?! Lol.

You seem at odds with the fact I am not empathetic towards the, ahem, "little guys". Sorry, but being a capitalist and not a communist, it would be hypocritical of me to criticise the defining nature of capitalism - EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF.

If they get laid off they can get another job - like the rest of us. A company is well within rights to make decisions that benefit THE COMPANY.

  • So if it's every man for himself, then it's perfectly reasonable for a starving laid off worker to belt you over the head with a cricket bat and steal your money? It's OK for drug dealers to peddle their wares to your kids?

What you seem to be espousing is the economic rationalism side of capitalism which's come to the fore in the last 2 decades. There are many other alternatives to extreme right wing capitalism besides communism, like socialist democricies.

  • No, sorry, but you are attempting to quote out of context.

Every man for himself is a defining characteristic of capitalism, but so is LAW and ORDER. You cannot prescribe yourself to one value whilst ignoring the other.... even if it is to make a flawed point. :)

Whilst I do not profess to be an expert in such matters, my expertise lies in other fields, I will say that capitalism and communism are the MAIN directions a nation can take. All others are watered down versions of these.

  • "Every man for himself" is not a higher human ideal, it is simple animal survival and hence your statement DOES advocate that we behave as animals. Did your Mother teach you to hog everything for yourself, or did she teach you that civilized human beings should SHARE resourses? Who taught you it's good to NOT share?

Communism and Capitalism are the EXTREMES of the political spectrum. True wisdom in all things, political systems included, lies in a harmonious balance which avoids extremes.

  • .....but let me get this straight, you are saying that a company should be basing their decisions on the future of said company, its shareholders and customers on the well being of its workers? Wow, you ARE a communist! :)

A company has a DUTY to do its best to be as profitable as possible. Sometimes this benefits the labour force, other times it does not. You cant take the good (jobs, more hours etc) without the bad (lay offs, closures etc) - this is called business, look it up.

  • The shareholders don't do the work in a company, they're not the ones who built the company up, without employees a company is nothing, without customers a comany is nothing. These two must come before shareholders which are just the johnny come lately parasites who believe because they already have more money than everyone else this entitles them to an even greater share of the monies generated by hard working employees. I see we're definately at odds as to who we define as "parasites".

  • That is besides the point. You are looking at the business model from the perspective of communism, not capitalism.

Simply put, the shareholders have a STAKE in the company, the employees (usually) dont. If an employee has the money/brains to become a shareholder, then this changes.

Employees are paid for their service. They are not guaranteed that their livelyhood will be a priority over the interest of the company. This is called a "job".

  • Take away the employees and there is NO company. A company expects the kind of loyalty from their employees that a company will not return, these days usually demanding employees sign non-disclosure waivers. In psychology this would be called "projection", the company is projecting it's own disloyalty and untrustworthiness onto every employee.

Employees have a much greater STAKE in a company, it's their talents and their sweat that helps a company succeed, shareholders produce nothing!

  • At the end of the day a company needs its employees, but no more than its employees need a job. History has shown that there is always more employees than jobs, and so in true capitalist form, a company has more power to hire and fire than an employee has to take or leave a job.

As for parasites, you are again taking things out of context. I said people who expect to be "taken care of" no matter what are parasites. People who stand on their own feet and strive to get ahead are not.

  • And isn't it the shareholders that expect to be "taken care of no matter what", despite the fact that they do no actual work in the building of a corporation's success?

In truth, extreme right-wing capitalism is no better then medieval fuedalism where the "lords" expect to take the majority of everything and keep the poor in destitution from generation to generation, never allowing them the opportunity to get ahead, despite how intelligent or skilled they may be.

  • I guess, the one saving grace in all this is that the same pathetic losers who preach how bad capitalism is, are the same bone idle losers that everyone simply ignores as they are too unimportant to warrant attention...

Either pull your own weight, or fade into background and be a busted arse deadbeat in silence.

  • By the way, you try to argue your point by attacking the person rather than their argument. I'd much sooner be a pseudo-intellectial and have some capacity to argue a point logically, rather than a non-intellectial who tries to prove that they're "right" through name calling.

If you post again, please try to argue your point rather than attacking the person, because it makes it really hard for me to not attack you with sensless name calling also and I don't want to sink to this level too.

  • Sorry, but you are wrong on two accounts there. [1] I wasn't trying to make a point, I was merely submitting my opinion & [2] I was not attacking you, I was laughing at you.

You may have the capacity to argue a point logically.. but where is the proof? I have yet to see a single piece of "logical" proof presented, or did I miss something?

Lol, as for my posting again, I direct your attention to points [1] & [2] of THIS post. :)

I await some "logical" points, or attacking if you prefer.

  • First of all look up "psychopath", the defining characteristic is a lack of empathy.

Secondly, you seem to be assuming that communism is evil, where once again I refer you to the propaganda we've been fed by the media which does it's best to point out failed communist dictatorships, whilst totally ignoring the political persuasions of all the other evil dictatorships, eg. Milosovich, Pol Pot, Mugabe, Idi Amin, Saddam Hussein etc.

  • Hmmm, well, I would say the definition of a psychopath is someone who exibits extreme amoral behaviour, whilst they would not necessarily be empathetic, they COULD be amoral AND empathetic - ie showing empathy towards "evil" persons would still be amoral...

Communism isnt evil, but it is counter productive to ANY motivated individual, whilst at the same time being advantageous to the lowest common denominator. Winners are kept back whilst losers are propped up.

  • And I agree that extreme left-wing socialism, ie. communism, affords no impetus for creative individuals to strive to get ahead. Likewise, extreme right-wing capitalism prevents talented individuals from getting ahead no matter how motivated they may be. The ONLY skill that is rewarded is business acumen. If we all wan't to get ahead we should all then only apply ourselves to business, not to medicine, science, electronics and information technology etc.

I reiterate that "Balance" is the key.

  • Talented individuals, if TRULY talented, will always find away of getting ahead.

In business, of course the biggest asset is business acumen! Surely that is only logical? Surely the knowledge of how to manufacture a lethal gas is of little use when attempting to gain the Nobel Peace Prize? Logical. :)

If someone has talent/a good idea etc it is in their best interest to form thei own company, instead of prostituting their ideas as an employee of another company. But it is there choice.

  • Talent and a geat idea is what Preston Tucker had. The Tucker '48 automobile was revolutionary in it's time, it had a roll cage, disc brakes, pop out windshield (before safety glass) and seat belts. Ford, GM and Chrysler bribed politicians and used their buying power to prevent access to materials (like steel) in order to prevent this competition. Only 51 cars were ever made. Tucker died a broken alcoholic.

Only the naive believe we can all be millionaires if we just try hard enough.

  • Lol, you cannot take an unproven story as point of fact my friend! The story of Preston Tucker is one of conjecture and speculation. For instance, whilst many historians believe he was a visionary before his time, many others believe he was a conman and never intended to produce the so called "80 fine tune vehicles".

I would say, only the naive believe a nice story, without facts. Others might say, only the naive believe anyone with an idea DESERVES to be a millionaire. :)

  • So it's seems that because there is some conjecture on this particular case, which may not have been the best example I admit, you are denying the argument entirely that massive corporations will use any underhanded tactic to crush any competition. In your next post, though, you say that lying, cheating and bribery are to be expected as tools of competition. You're simply refuting your own arguments now.

  • Lol, how am I denying that corporations, massive or otherwise, use underdaded tactics to crush competition? I stated the OPPOSITE!!! Please quote where I stated that corporations DONT use underhanded tactics!!!

You are simply inventing an argument, assigning it to someone, then stating they are refuting their own argument - which you yourself invented inthe first place! :) The hilarious part is that at the start of your posting you mentioned the issue of propaganda.... :)

  • You seem to have misread or misunderstood the prior post. I was saying that you were trying to nullify my entire point because Preston Tucker may not have been the BEST example to cite, but the point was that corporations DO use underhanded tactics to destroy even the smallest competition.

  • Obviously you still suffer the delusion that run-away, unregulated, right-wing capitalism and free enterprise allows for competition in the marketplace.

Capitalists abhor competition, it is a threat to their profits. They will lie, bribe, cheat, steal, extort and use any other morally and ethically reprehensible tacticts (business acumen?) to crush competition.

Competeing in this market is like having a 10 year old girl in a boxing ring facing Mike Tyson and calling that a competition!

  • Of course I believe that - thats what got me to where I am today.

Capitalism does not abhor competition - it encourages it with its policy of every man for himself - if that isnt competition, what IS? Lieing, cheating and bribing are simply tools of this competition. To not expect them in the business world is the pinnacle of naivety!

A 10 year old girl fighting Mike Tyson IS competition - STIFF competition. :) Dont like capitalism? Move to a communist country and become a faceless "unit".

  • In a previous post you alluded to how we must respect Law and Order, yet now you want to contradict yourself and say that morally reprehensible behaviour should be acceptable. Well which one is to be; are we all to behave like greedy, unenlightened animals or should we respect decent, ethical, lawful behaviour? Now what you're trying to say is that the 10 year old girl should fight Tyson without a referee or rules present and that this should be acceptable.

  • See? You are doing it again! :)

Show we where it says that the law and morality are the same. Being rude to someone is not a moral thing to do, but it is NOT illegal.

Lying, whether in business or not, is not a moral thing to do, but it is not (usually) illegal.

Now you mention ethics in the same sentence as law. :) Are you a comedian?

You sound like a very nice, well natured, but naive young fellow who needs to experience a little more of the REAL world before forming an opinion.

  • I was of the opinion, somewhat because you like to use expressions like "LOL" and smileys, that you were the one who is quite young and inexperienced and, in my opinion, rather naive. I would've thought you weren't even born when Whitlam was dismissed.

Trust me, I have experienced quite a lot of the REAL world. I was working at the ASX when the crash precipitating "the recession we had to have" occurred. It is through vast experience that I've formed my opinions.

  • Oh, and when you quote yourself, you cannot "add" bits to make the quote/story stronger. A referee or rules were never mentioned by myself, nor yourself when you made the analogy of Tyson fighting a 10 year girl. :)

The real world is greedy, spiteful and competitive. For people like myself, this is a welcome challenge, for others it is a mental assault. 'tis life, get used to it. No matter how much you would like the us all to join and sing Kumbaya, it aint gonna' happen. :)

  • The "added" bits are a response to your position that lying, cheating and bribery are acceptable, that's why have a referee, to keep the "competition" clean. In business this is called tariffs and regulation, without which we simply have an "animal" fight for survival, where the biggest will devour everything else until the are no resouces left to support any.

  • You seem to keep missing the point that UNREGULATED, RIGHT-WING capitalism is as inherently flawed as ultra left wing socialism (communism) and that wisdom lies in balance between the two. How long do you think that the rest of our society will tolerate the pure unadulterated selfish greed that you claim is productive and for the benefit of all? How well did this selfish greed work out in Russia in 1917 or in France in 1789? If you don't learn from history then you're destined to repeat it.

  • @neale61 Indeed and far left bullshit such as socialism that is being pushed today can lead to similar problems...

  • @neale61 This is what I've been saying for decades

  • @JasperAbraxxious What a nasty little turd you are

  • @JasperAbraxxious obviously believes in the red under the bed scare. Howard was a 'socialist' too...only he gave middle-class welfare out.

  • Gunston is seen talking with future PM Bob Hawke (then President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions) and Kep Enderby (Attorney-General), and then Bill Hayden (Treasurer, later - ironically - Geovernor-General)/

  • I swear to god never to read fucking youtube comments ever again.

  • I make that promise frequently myself :)

  • It's painfully obvious your public education was wasted on you.

  • Could that be Peter Harvey in cahoots with the old reprobate?

  • I just gave you a lesson on what a GG is....you understand nothing.

  • do you know anyone who is an actual communist?

socialism is a stepping stone to communism. when the government think that a nation is ready it is supposed to give up its power and its supposed to be some kind of a utopia of equality.

saying everyone is equal and yet having people with power over you (ie the government) is an ideological contradiction

  • Like it or not the GG is the Queens representative, only a fool with his head in the sand would deny that. Regardless of what actually happened in the senate, when the GG dismisses a Government, even if it was Kerrs decision (and he can't make that decision without consulting the Queen) It IS in effect the Queen doing the job. If you don't like it then vote republic.

  • But Kerr didn't consult the Queen, he didn't have to. He only had to consult the Chief Justice of the High Court - Barwick. Who just happened to be an ex-liberal Minister.

  • I do believe you are right. I had always assumed he had spoke to the Queen informing her of his intentions, after all he is her representative.

  • In 2001, it came out in news articles that the Queen didn't agree with the sacking, and that she thought the issue would sort itself out. It was all Kerr acting of his own accord and own self-importance.

  • Looks like there was around 10,000 people at the dismissal gathering.

That's about how many votes the imperious old buffoon got nationally at the election that followed his sacking.

  • Ah good ole gough, he's still alive and kicking, even in his 90s. Good onya gough!

  • Gough brought Australia into the 1970's as it had been stuck in the 50's under the Liberals.

  • Texas loves Australians.

    CARRY ON!

  • What most people overseas don't realise is that this is the most radical constitutional crisis in Australia's history. The Prime Minister was being sacked by HRH Queen Elizabeth II.....and we have a comedian there to do an interview. LOL... Only in Australia...LOL

  • you nailed it right on the scone, mate!!!

  • @bellimbopinni Well, the pm was sacked by The Queen's representative- Kerr- but it's arguable whether it was at the behest or knowledge of HM the Queen.

  • @bellimbopinni I agree. I'm an American but I know all about the Constitutional Crisis in '75. What's surreal is that Norman Gunston is there. That's like Borat trying to interview Bush in 2000.

  • long live gough whitlam!!

  • One Angry Bogan

  • if you google, communist countries, china is at the top of the list.

  • thats right

  • actually china is not communist. read the communist manifesto. china is a dictatorship. the very definition of communism means there is NO governement

  • The people's flag is deepest red, It shrouded oft our martyred dead, And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold, Their hearts blood dyed its every fold. Then raise the scarlet standard high. Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here. Look round, the Frenchman loves its blaze, The sturdy German chants its praise, In Moscow's vaults its hymns are sung Chicago swells the surging throng.
  • His education reforms obviously didn't help you.

  • education reforms? blindly giving money 2 any one who claimed 2 be attending uni, or studdying an accosiate degree in some made up subject which ment they could qualify for the dole, yay woopideedo, remember he got sacked thats speaks louder than argument, he was a bum, who had ichy fingers who could only satify his itch by writing checks that bounced with our money, he was living in fairy land. He was sacked for being a bum and thats what he will be remembered for.

  • I rest my case

  • Where is the rebutal? nothing 2 say coz u know he is a bum. Got sacked like a bum.

  • I tend to avoid arguments about education with people incapable of spelling, however let me point out a few facts.

His government established the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, the Legal Aid Office, National Film and Television School, the Trade Practices Commission and Australian National Parks and Wildlife Service, Australian Film Commission, Australia Council, Consumer Affairs Commission. He abolished university tuition fees, and he introduced free health care.

He did a hell of a lot!

  • he spent a fuck load of money, and then he was sacked coz he ran out. How long did it take us 2 clear the debt from his short rein in power. You for real the department of abo affairs. If u had any idea of the money the abos have wasted on themselves, the millions that they have just blown, aww and uni fees, sounds like u were one of those tossers that spent 10 years at uni coz it was free. People stopped trying at uni coz it was free, they didnt care, wasnt cumming from there pocket

  • I admit (and he'd probably agree) that he didn't have the most talented ministry, and he knew his tenure would be short (due to that corrupt and manipulative prick Bjelke Peterson), but he delivered a great many overdue reforms for Australia. He may have done too much too soon, but at least he did something - unlike the dolts that preceded him and that recent boring little shit we just kicked out.

  • i own a 96 commodore, id like a new car, but i cant decided between a ute, or a sedan or a 4x4 all have there pro's and cons, and i sorta really cant afford 2 buy all 3 although they would be nice. How bout i just buy all three and go broke in the process, wouldnt that be nice. Or why dont i wait til i have a little more money and can actually afford what i need. i guess u think he should of stayed in power. When would his manic spending spree of ended if he had not of been sacked like a bum????

  • If their economic management was so appalling, why then, after overthrowing the legitimate government by blocking the budget in the senate didn't the Liberals make any amendments to that budget?

Because they knew it couldn't be improved?

  • Labor spent money 2 make themselves popular, liberals have always saved money, every now and again enuff over educated fools who spent 2 long at the free universities decided to vote them wankers back in. Then when all u wankers wake up 2 your selves and relise what u have done enuff of u vote the liberals back in so they can clean up. But then they become unpopular for not giving out money willy nilly 2 any one that has a half asrsed excuse why they need funding. Labour bums, liberals leaders.

  • "educated fools"

    DOES NOT COMPUTE.

  • bash in intro trade unions, make democracy a joke. thats what joe did

  • mate the unions had waaaaaaaaay to much power back then. that was undemocratic. theyd just tell the government what they wanted, and refuse to do anything if they didnt meet their demands.

the unions would call a strike is someone REFUSED to join them back then.

joe did more for queensland than ANY other premier

  • How was that undemocratic? Nearly 50% or more of the work force were members of the trade unions. People these days forget that the trade union officials are either democratically election by the members or employed by the unions and need to be approved by the members. May I say that employer bodies have way to much power these days. The employers (the bourgeoisie) tell the governments what to do. So think about that. It has turned the full 180 over the last 33 years.

  • yep and the unions screwed australias economy over well and truly. with a labor pm who did their bidding they called strikes at the drop of a hat.

and please bourgeoisie is such a dead word mate. i studied marxism/socialism. guess what? it doesnt work! it screws up

  • Socialism does work. In Germany, millions are voting for the Left Party. In South America, the socialists are winning power in many countries. Communist and socialist parties are involved in the governing of around 40 countries. There is a total of 175 million communist party members are the world. Communism is not dead. Socialism is working in nearly every country that it is in power. Lots of people use the word "bourgeoisie".

  • socialism screwed us over here in queensland. rudd tried to centralise the hospital system. screwed qld health over and ppl are still dying.

why? because he took power from the local boards who understood the issues facing their region.

communism/socialism can never work. why? because you are telling everyone to be equal. whose enforcing the equality? the government. it is no longer equal when someone has power over you.

  • The reason why the health system is so bad is because we don't have enough doctors or nurses. the government is giving the system millions of extra dollars but that money is being spent on administration not doctors or nurses (i.e. more beds). Socialism is not about centralization. The local boards was just pointless administration and owed way to much money. Communism has never been in power any where in the world. Under communism, there is no government or state.

  • well the health system was the best in australia under joh. something went wrong under labor when they got rid of local boards...

communism will never happen because to reach that point you need for an authoritarian government to give up power which it will never do. heard the saying "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely?"

  • What went wrong was that Labour took the money from one place of administration and put it in another place of administration. Queensland Health has to much administration and not enough money spent on doctors, nurses, hospitals and beds. It is as simple as that. Under socialism, there is no authoritarian government. What about all the capitalist dictatorships we've had over the years like in Souther America and in the middle east?Yes, I;ve heard of that saying. But its not always true.

  • are you kidding? the chinese government is trying to buy our resources in w.a, the electricity in n.s.w, and the gas in qld. the rudd gov is considering compulsory asian language to be taught in schools. communism will never happen..........HA,HA

  • wow pure ignorance.

china is not a proper communist nation.

look up communism. china is not communist.

  • Lets not forget that holland has a socialist government that is helping the country flourish.

  • you're 25 yo, go get fucked, what do you know about attending university in the 70s and 80s, that right , fuck all!

  • well said ozwunder69.

  • Racism

  • You really are a wanker.

  • Interesting fight, but Ed won the bout on a points decision. He made one good point after another.

  • Whitlam was an idiot, he tossed away his one opportunity to be a decent PM, Khemlani, you might remember?

  • Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant, how great was Gough? ... so great that Norman could even upstage him.

  • that will lead Norman Gunston to a gold logie later after that

  • "In terms of the Labor agenda this government has left every other Labor government bare arsed. No other government even gets within cooee of it. We have a cabinet which has a degree of economic sophistication which puts the Whitlam government into the cavemen class in economic terms." -Paul Keating and he's damn right!

  • Many know the reasons behind the Whitlam sacking. This was a major tragedy for Australia and democracy. The racist premier Jo Bjelke-Peterson hated Gough Whitlam and Labour with a passion and he helped engineer the sacking. Gough Whitlam was a great man. A real man.

  • have you had a look at the nsw coroners report on gough whitlam signing documents when the balibo 5 got murdered in east timor,he gave permission to indonesia to do whatever they wanted and that included killing australians, the victims families always said that he was involved and now we know.good man huh.

  • u agree with tadgerno1 gough whitlam was and still is a sneaky butt-hole he sent australia broke

  • Kep Enderby who was the Attorney-General at the time is the man talking to R.J.L. Hawke

  • Thanks for that - the microphone did a good job catching the chatter close up.
