That's why 'atheists' are in the strictest sense agnostic, or they would be as delusional as the religious in presuming absolute knowledge. However, all the specific religions make specific claims in their holy books that can be compared against empirically testable reality. If the claims about a god are demonstrably contradictory to reality then it is only logical to be an atheist in regard to that religion. And needless to say the Abrahamic ones fail completely.

I hope to see the day when John Lennon's dream comes true. I personally have waited 44 yrs to see the day when this happens. The internet and the ability for the world to communicate and discover knowledge that contradicts holy book fairytales will help. Much human suffering has come at the hands of religion. Getting rid of religion wouldn't solve all our problems - as Dawkins suggested - but it would definitely make people have to think a little harder to try and rationalize their cruelty. Religion makes it far too easy; just drop the name of any manner of god, spirit, fairy, gnome, or elf, and BAM, instant deluded justification. It just removes the middle man of critical inquiry like an annoying cyst.
