@KEBokeh Video DSLRs are far, far better than camcorders for professional videomakers. They are becoming regularly used in the professional industry. For instance, the last series of House and of 24 were both shot on a Canon 5D. It's really not just a gimmick.
It's officially called 'tearing' and normally occurs as hard dashes through the screen which cut up the images in fast scenes like panning. It's most common, and indeed you need to buy a real camera for these kind of clips. But with a DSLR you can 'cheaply' get that amazing DOF effect in recordings without hassle.
WHO PANS THAT FAST SERIOUSLY, UNLESS YOUR FILMING A BLAIR WITCH PROJECT!, its ment to be used for filming movies and you never pan that fast in a movie.
At least they improved the video quality. Doesn't have that much of a jelly effect now than that of the latter models. :) But still, DSLRs are not meant to be used as camcorders :D
The camera works fine if you use it properly. It's control over depth of field is phenomenal and is something that the EX3, which I have, cannot even remotely come close to.
its a plus... not the main feature. and as long as you dont go around whip-panning, you'll be ok. if you dont, you can record some really awesome video. but if the jello effect is such a nuissance, get the Canon 1D Mark IV, out in Nov/Dez 09, that doesnt have that jello effect (its around 5000 €/$ though... for that price, might as well get a RED SCARLET :P or SONY EX1)
Only a fool records video this way. The mark 2 got jelly also but no one do this to that camera the d 90 is the worst but they all are great cameras with the right person behind them. And check out the mark 2 video on the highway with the light poles bending just like the d90. The person recording this do not need to pick up a DSLR. Cause they are not toys. And again no one records video this way.
Your all crazy. No one would ever have the picture move back and forth like this in practice. The video is of a great quality for the price and versatility of an SLR. How anyone can say Nikon is garbage is beyond reason. And YES, the D300s is out now... there must be alot of Canon employees on YouTube
Nikon has not released this camera yet. Best Buy doesn't have them yet. I'd say this is fake. Plus any camera jerk it back and forth like this is not going to be good.
I just got up out of bed this morning and viewed this video, I thought I was getting see sea sick, as my head was spinning while watching this. I was sure glad that it was a short video. WOW !!!!!!!!
This is not jelly effect, this is rolling shutter effect.

@KEBokeh
DSLR cameras at this price look better than camcorders at the same price.
Babykay1985 8 months ago
@KEBokeh Lol, I couldn't agree more.
AldossariEOS 10 months ago
This happens on most DSLRs. It's because the sensor records the image from top to bottom. It can be corrected fairly easily in post.

trust me guys, you don't need fast pans, after a while you'll detect this effect even in the smallest movement, it gets really annoying

@wunderfantastike yeah.. but as an owner of 3 EX1's I have to admit I'd kill for the oppurtunity to use real optics...

EX3 then? Dunno how much more expensive it is, though.

it was not as bad as the d90. it is actually pretty good if you are moving the camera that fast.
