She was so great in those days. Then a wipeout. Then a recovery. Hope she's doing well these days. I used to have this album. Actually, I had another 1987 grammy winner's album also...Anita Baker.
Unfortunately, young beauties grow old and sometimes lose their voices. Thank goodness for recordings and videos. We can remember them at their peak.
@harryklyne I sooooo agree with you, this lady is just not normal, in a good way i mean. I've never heard anyhing like it, and Im afraid I never will. Of course there're good singers out there, but there's only ONE W.H. LOVEEE HERR!
Whitney forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love whitney and I am almost 18 years of age and yes she is the best singer of all the time and all the coke she has done damaged her vocals but then at least she has stopped and working on the new album and having singing lessons to get her voice back to how it was and I think in time she will be able to sing like she used to because Whitney is in a league of her own and no body will ever meet that or beat her, shes amazing ! x
Standing ovation...no less than she absoLUTEly deserves!!What an incredible woman she was/is!!That voice...oh Lord...how do you find words good enough to praise her singing and voice!!?Incredible...juss incredible!!
This was one pretty, fine looking talented woman. Why did she take it for granted and throw it all away- It's not too late for her though because all things are possible with GOD!!!
@mikelovesgod If she never sings another vNOTE...who cares...she's DONE it already...she don NEED to keep proving how brilliant she was...juss take a listen...it's all there, and always WILL be as well!!Why should she have to keep proving herself...like ah said...she's DONE it already!!
@TheMrMarilyn I agree with you. I don't think anybody will ever be able to touch her when she was in her prime. She is a one of a kind artist who is untouchable. Somebody has to be the best and that person just happens to be Whitney Houston and nobody can deny it.
@mikelovesgod Well...they can (deny it)...but ah juss happen to think otherwise,as you do!!Yeah..Miss Whitterz is very unique indeed...and where she 'is',with regards to the history of music making and human use of the vocal apparatus, will never be equalled or 'outdone',as the whole thing (everything regarding Whitney) IS unique!!When people say stupid shit about her,and try to somehow 'overlook' the magnitude of her contribution to music, just makes them seem ignorant to me!!Love Em,x (Marilyn)
Also, the music industry had never had THE TOTAL PACKAGE before like a Whitney Houston. There were great singers, great songs but she was the beginning of something different! @DonLouiVer There is only one Whitney...and thass how it will always be too...it don matter who performs any of the songs she interpreted, because Whitterz...well,how can you even compare anyone to her...her voice (and use OF it) was unique...and unique means ONE of!!End of...
Thanks for the vid. I remember back then people didn't quite know how to take Whitney yet. I hate when people say whitney voice is gone down with drugs and alcohol or whatever. You need to add another factor into consideration: age. Celine keeps using her lower key since age has become big restriction. Mariah lost it at the same time as Whitney. Stop comparing the old and young whitney. Of course it's incomparable. Age deepens tone of voice. Bad health ruins how beautiful it sounds. Think that you are whitney and you will feel that she actually survive all of that is a god's blessing.

nah, im picky. i like anything before 1992. i really feel like she lost that MAGIC in her voice after 1992. lots of people can hear the difference. thats just me.
I agree. While there were glimpses of her former self from time to time, it was never quite the same. There was a difference in her chest voice. She resorted to lower registers (for the most part) and kept going to her head voice for dramatic effect. Around the "Shoop, shoop" time she was continuously in the cellar and singing a bunch of low vocal runs, rarely getting into that range that gave us goosbumps.
I really thought I was the only person who noticed that dramatic change in Whitney's voice in the 1990s. I remember being so disappointed in her singing prowess during the Bodyguard time. I mean disappointed by Whitney standards of course cause I would love to sound 100th that good
you mean THE greates voice in the world.. no singer ever in the history of this world had a better voice..some notes she hit isn't even measured on the musical scale..really.. chek it out to see..
I'm so freaking sick of people saying that she can't sing like she used to. Thats because its not 1987!!! People voices change, they go through things, and life experiences shape their current state. Now dont get it twisted, Whitney on her worst day will out sing any joker you put up against her including Mariah, Toni, Beyonce and YES MADONNA. Stop hating. Look at the Clark Sisters, they dont hold them notes as long as they used to and Twinkie definitely aint doing like she used to. Stopcomplain
please. thats what you sign the contract for! TO SING! record deal, singing contract. not dance contract or look cute contract. seems like when 2000 hit, things went downhill for music. people were singing. you could hear traces of the blackness in music. now its just like, WHATS THIS? people and their little tired ab libs and that annoying HEEEEEEEEY! that long on that they do when they think they are doin something. its so sad. i miss the days when people used to belt and really get in there
Whitney would still be able to sing like this to this day if she didn't mess with the drugs..singing live at this level dosn't wear out your voice..but messing around with drugs and stress and unhealthy relationships will do it..the voice is a muscle it can only endure so much..I still love her though..
@jonhi1 you will see Whintey get better and better and as she is already doing however her voice will never be like this one on this video because her voice has changed and not just because of the drugs abuse but because of aging which is a natural thing. I still love her today when she sings she is still very touchy. God bless her
But at this stage in the game what of that doesn't the world already know...I mean even a Dead horse can only take so much ...and as quiet as it is kept one day Whitney will be even greater than this because now she has something to really SING about she has lived these lyrics and when her voice heals and it will...she will be an even greater force the likes of which this world has never seen she is the only singer who can re-instill people's faith in buying recorded music again!
@jonhi1 i agree with almost everything you say except fot the part that the voice is a muscle...it's not a muscle, dude. And Whitney was a tremendous singer back in the days...:))
@felo4444 I'm a singer myself sir...I need you to look up in detail on Vocal Anatomy.. Study it very well for me...and then come back and tell me what you've found :))
1.Voice:The sound produced by the vocal organs, etc. Expiration of air through vibrating vocal cords. One of the individual vocal or instrumental parts or strands in a composition.Grammar: A property of verbs or a set of verb inflections indicating the relation between the subject and the action expressed by the verb.2.Muscle:A tissue composed of fibers capable of contracting to effect bodily movement. A contractile organ consisting of a special bundle of muscle tissue, which moves a bone, etc
Whitney can't sing like this no more. Thats a fact. But she was amazing. She will always be remembered as one of the best female vocalists of all time.
well usually die hard fans are blinded by the truth. they think everything is perfect. if whitney didnt falter vocally then why isnt she singing like this anymore? dont say anything dumb like "nobody sings like this anymore" or "its not of the time". if she could still sing like this, she would! lets not be silly
What their saying is that no one can do this. did you notice that its just her, the mic and the song?? no bells and whistles, no changing wardrobes, or anything to hide your lack of talent. like most of the artists now do. a true musician can do just this, and bring the house down. dont need to hide anything to make a true artist!!!
@ssaturn Well clearly she doesnt sing like this anymore. She doenst need to, she made her mark forever on music and will forever be known as one of the best female, if not the best in popular music history. (btw this isnt even her best live performance of this song lol)
anything from the 80s is good. these were vocal perfection years for her. up until 1992, things starting wearing out. when you sing live and have that kind of a voice, its bound to falter.
wow, yet another beyond amazing performance from the lovely Ms. Houston. To think, I was only two years old when she performed here! Even more amazing that she appeals to so many people from different cultures/generations.
WOW,WOW,WOW!!! Whitney Houston, u go girl & ur still our Angel as u r 2 many. Girl we miss u so much & u have not fallen but been mislead by the demon himself bobby. He lives in ur shadows & that was his down fall not yours! 4 u were just too advanced 4 him & he didn't appreciate that. Having a women making more money than him but, he's got 2 remember without u supporting his ass, he would have been on the streets again yrs ago. So come back 2 us girl & use that gift from GOD. Ur our ANGEL XXX
I cant stop crying she ahs an angel sent voice! I love you whitney please come back to your roots and sing the way you used to:0

@jonhi1

@jonhi1 lol i doubt, this is a youngsters voice. She'd more likely sound how she did in 1996/1997.
Anyway, we should just appreciate what she's blessing us with and she's still around and sounds good :)

Whitney can't sing like this no more. Thats a fact. But she was amazing. She will always be remembered as one of the best female vocalists of all time.

well usually die hard fans are blinded by the truth. they think everything is perfect. if whitney didnt falter vocally then why isnt she singing like this anymore? dont say anything dumb like "nobody sings like this anymore" or "its not of the time". if she could still sing like this, she would! lets not be silly
ssaturn 2 years ago
What their saying is that no one can do this. did you notice that its just her, the mic and the song?? no bells and whistles, no changing wardrobes, or anything to hide your lack of talent. like most of the artists now do. a true musician can do just this, and bring the house down. dont need to hide anything to make a true artist!!!
20steelersbumpj05 2 years ago
cuz she was on crack, and that messes up your vocal chords.
TNNS415 2 years ago
@ssaturn Well clearly she doesnt sing like this anymore. She doenst need to, she made her mark forever on music and will forever be known as one of the best female, if not the best in popular music history. (btw this isnt even her best live performance of this song lol)
atltallone907 2 years ago
anything from the 80s is good. these were vocal perfection years for her. up until 1992, things starting wearing out. when you sing live and have that kind of a voice, its bound to falter.
ssaturn 2 years ago
she did not falter.....her voice is the strongest we have ever heard....from those like the belters.....judy garland...ethel merman.....etc.
i just wish that if i were ever to meet her and let it be known that i could love her best.....but won't happen...i am not on her level

oh cmon it's plenty of incredible performances after 1992. her voice really started to decline in 1999

wow, yet another beyond amazing performance from the lovely Ms. Houston. To think, I was only two years old when she performed here! Even more amazing that she appeals to so many people from different cultures/generations.
