    It has the same engine as the evo...which means that with a reflash(and other VERY MINOR mods like injectors)...its capable of 300hp.

    Bigger turbo? 500hp should be possible(With the necessary supporting modifications)

Granted it's a tad more stylish and modern...but the thing has to upshift twice before 60mph...real narrow powerband...Mustang just seamlessly puts ya back in the seat all the way to 100...love that....like a rocket...

The styling is a rip from Nissan (altima coupe, 370z, G37), but the mechanicals are poorly balanced.....for now. The Koreans are still 5 years behind in suspension development but they are coming on strong especially with American R&D centres now.

Look at their competitors and some look like each other, their frames are whats being copied. I don't understand the "wrong" part cause i own one and it's not broken or given me any problems.

  • I find it funny how they compare the stock Genesis 3.8 to the 370 and the Mustang GT in a drag race when the stang is a V8 (more horsepower, torque...more expensive by 8+k) and the 370( more hp more torque 2 seater) and 8k+......... makes me laugh cause if you put a decent turbo on the Genesis 3.8 it would kill the 370 and give the Mustang a run for its money for a fair comparison.

  • If I was a kid just getting a set of wheels the 1st time, this car would be on my shortlist. Wow, lots of goodies, so short money. Tuning and having fun. The insurance might be expensive, but maintain an A average, and stay out of trouble, this would be one fun ride.

  • 6.8 0-60 is pretty good for a 210 horsepowered car. The vw golf gti is also 6.8.

  • If you buy the 2.0T, then you can also purchase a special turbocharger from HKS made specifically for this car and does not void the warranty. I think that is awesome.

  • Some of their tests are a little slow. I saw someone do a 14.7 @ 92 mph in this same car and according to the owner it was stock. Now I don't think an amateur owner can knock half a second off this time and pick up 2 mph without any modifications so it probably had a tune or intake etc but I admit 15.2 @ 90 mph is a little slow.

  • @mongrelchild. i would much rather have a rwd car too, i was just saying that if the tiburon had this engine it would be more competitive in its class, a class where all the cars are fwd. plus fwd is superior to rwd cars in snowy conditions. i live in wisconsin and drive a rwd/awd ford bronco and when its rwd its terrible compared to my moms fwd corolla. size probably has something to do with it too but rwd is deffinitly inferior to fwd in snow. trust me, im a doctor.

  • mmm I think that this car would achieve more power if you just change the turbo size the tune and the intercooler , it may add a lot of HP also exhaust headers and CAI is lighter than the v6 and as they said it handles better

  • Yeah you right in some things but you look at the price and if you have the 2.0T with another turbine ( Garret .60, .50), Intercooler, Nice Piping, Exaust 3", boost controler and other thing you can put more hp than the 3.8 with upgrades with less money than the 3.8 I like the Genesis 3.8 but you can have more HP with the turbo..

    For the price of the upgrades, you don't get anything that the 3.8 offers. The 2.0 is a budget Genesis and should only be driven by people on a budget, or by kids in their late teens or early 20s.

    You might match or exceed the horsepower, but you don't get anything else. I can up my 3.8 GT with ease as well, and it'll out-max your friend's 2.0. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing really wrong with a 2.0, but it's a bare-bones, stripped down platform with nothing to it.

  • i would love this 2.0T car for the mileage, but i would much have the v-6 for the sound and power, and i would have to have the ltd. slip diff. you'd be out of your mind not to with such a light rwd car. especially if you indtend to drive this thing in the snow. overall i really like the car, i think that hyundai has really come a long way, i mean, in the past year they have made their first v8 car and their first rwd car.

  • The 2.0 turbo is a detuned version of Mistu's evo engine. Apparently you didn't know this. They even state this in some of the Genesis coupe reviews. Only the V6 is a true Hyundai motor. I love Hyundai. Hardly bashing them.

  • not really a detuned version. but that depends on your version of detuned. cuz the hyundai motor features less technology than the Mitsu Evo. Evo has the oil squirters, stronger pistons, MIVEC vs CVVT and a semi closed block deck and is reinforced. two different engines far from being the same, but similar footprint in overall size and look.

  • dodge ,mitsubishi, hyundai and kia all share the same four cylinder engines. nearly all hyundai cars created, had mitsubishi engines. even the genesis 380GT has a mitsubishi engine, its used in the eclipse GT. do your research.

  • Funny you tell me to do my research when you obviously haven't done yours. The 3.8L V6 in the Eclipse is a different motor than the one used in the Genesis coupe. Eclipse's motor is set up for front wheel drive, while the Genesis coupe's is set up for rear wheel drive. Eclipse makes 263hp while Genesis coupe makes 306hp. They are not the same motor!

  • its still the same motor regardless of the output. it doesnt matter if its rwd or fwd. the first gen g35s had the same motor as the altima 3.5, the altima is fwd and the g35 is rwd . the g35 makes more power, but they're still the same engine.

  • Chrysler, Hyundai, and Mitsu jointly design motors, like the 2.4L. Each company takes the engine and modifies the design to suit their own budgets and needs. So the 2.4L you'll find in the Sebring/Avenger isn't identical mechanically or in terms of performance to what you'll find in the Sonata. Hyundai's versions of the joint motor designs tend to be better than what you find in the Chryslers and Mitsus.

    i leave for the army january 4th and my graduation present to myself was gonna be the SS but i researched the GC and i have no clue which one i like more now!

    both have pros and cons... SS has better performance and the "sleeper" look, but the GC has better looking interior and the "wtf is that?!?!" wen u see it.

    no car bashing im just asking for opinions lol

  • i disagree the cobalt ss is a 3000pound car an the genesis 4cyl is 3200pound both pull same lateral g's but the cobalt is fast through the slalom and stops harder! and theirs the no lift shit feature which is cool! (but u can't go wrong with either)

  • I'd say the SS more power. the new SS has a launch control mode, so no guessing on what rpm to launch at. and the SS is the fastest front wheel drive car around the nurburgring. the GC does look great though. be safe over there, get back and have fun with ur new car.

  • Well think of it this way, the Cobalt SS, although a fun and quick car, is essentially an economy car with a quick motor in it. The style is bland and the interior is econo-car cheap. The Genesis coupe on the other hand was designed from the ground up to specifically be a sports car. It's going to drive and feel much more like one than the Cobalt. And this goes without saying, but it's a hell of a lot better looking inside and out. Reliablity and quality will be better too.

  • I'd pick the GC, its rwd, and much more unique, and most SS's aren't that sleeper, they have the huge curvey wing haha, but im a little biased, i own a tib currently and looking to make the upgrade

It will be cheaper on insurance, but if anyone think they're going to have a huge adv with a 95lb diff between the 6 is wrong. not to mention the 2.0t premium cost the same as the base. one question, why haven't we gotten navs in america?

  • GReddy is working on pumping out 500HP for this Genesis Coupe's 2.0T engine. That'll be something.

    With that kind of power, 0-60 will be in the corvette ZR range. I can't wait for that one.

  • Well, Rhys Millen took 3.8L Lambda V6, bored it to 4.1 and then put Turbonetics turbocharger with intercooler. That set up gave him 555HP.

    GReddy GC is working on the 2.0T engine only.

  • Rhys Millen also has a street legal upgrades on 2.0T version, but I think his will end up costing a lot more than GReddy mods and upgrades.

    Even if GReddy can't produce 500HP, but comes close to somewhere in the 450HP range, that's still pretty damn good.

    This GC will smoke anything on the planet with that kind of HP/weight and HP/price ratios.

So I go to honda, I see an civicSI, 24k small, neat, saves gas, sunroof, sporty, then the hyundai genesis catches my eye across the street.

  • i disagree its a four door sedan that beats most coupes and is generally easy to mod. Its practical and great for 4 season driving if you don't live in a warm weather climate. 4 wheel drive helps !
