IMHO, I think some homeless ppl will say they "choose" to be homeless just to make themselves feel better about a hopeless situation. It's human psychology really. They don't things will ever get better anyway, so they learn to accept the way things are and tell themselves it's their choice. It's a Hobson's choice, really. Poor people--homeless or not--by definition don't have choices. How many millionaires give it all up and choose to be homeless and sleep on the street? I can't think of one.
and the "bush" generally means it is only accesibly by plane and is out in "no man's land" where most people live off the land and have all goods brought to them by plane.
well, to be specific, Port Alswoth, AK (in the Lake and Penn area about 1 hour SW flight of Anchorage) working as a flight dispatcher. That's why everyone goes north for jobs, because they are always looking for people! Or so it seems.
This is eerily familiar to my life. I'm from Oregon, was homeless, and desperately looking for a job or to make some money. In May of this year I ventured up to Alaska with my dog and bird and worked out in the bush for 4 months. I just got back! Man, I just have to say that while it was hard, it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
This is a really great movie that shows the kind of dedication it takes to do something like that . . . even if you don't make it.
What do you mean by working out in the bush? I am surprised there is any work there...it's hard enough to find work in larger cities! LOL well, sounds like you had fun...wish I was you...well, maybe I'd trade the bird for a horse though...heheheh
You are all elitist assholes. Poverty is not a choice. Also the poor should not be without choice of adventure. If she were from a rich family, maybe she would go to Italy, or the south of France, but since she is poor, she tries to get to Alaska by any means possible in order to work, and make money. I.E. get out of her situation of being poor.
You're totally right. Since you asked one homeless person how he got there you can generalize about all of the poor people in the world, even those who are trying against all odds to make something of themselves (like the one depicted in this movie).
My mom and I have been homeless before, living with people we weren't related to. A couple years ago she found a solid job and we moved upstate into our own apt. She's been recently laid off and we're having alot of trouble again.
So I know what it's like to some extent. But sometimes it's good to joke about those kinds of things
Haha, subtle. Alright well I apologize. You have to admit there are some rather 2 dimensional characters commenting on youtube, but I stand corrected.
Wow, you asked a homeless man once...so one time and answer from one man and it sealed the deal for you huh? That was easy, what do you have in your house, all kinds of crap from Billy Maze or the Home Shopping Network? Could I also sell you and igloo if you lived in hell?
is there a sequel?

With penny-pinching assholes like this running amuck, no wonder America's economy is going down the crapper.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
the cause of poverty in America is the poor having children they can't support. Make a movie about THAT, Kelly!

Actually , it wasn't obvious. However, I'm really glad to know that you don't think that way...this world certainly doesn't need people like that....
