So? Still has NOTHING to do with the lyrics of the song. That's the bane of 80's videos ---- the CONCEPT. I blame MTV, not the artists. They had a "rule" that they wouldn't air straight-up "performance" style videos. And that forced artists to create these incredibly silly videos. Some far more ridiculous than others. I listen to this one a lot. It's in my "Jukebox" playlist. But I can't take the video.
Buen video, buen hallazgo.
always loved the bass line to this tune . . . The video was typically 80s . . . Directors/Artists were so obsessed with portraying some kind of weird, f*cked-up, post-apocalyptic, dystopian society in them . . . Maybe it was the influence of the "Mad Max" movies of the time and us living in fear of nuclear war with the Soviets . . .
Excellent observations. Despite all the supposed economic prosperity, there was an undercurrent of fear and quiet desperation, to borrow from Pink Floyd. Lots of people did well, but that came at a price of lots of people being painfully marginalized.
If it took them 'til 2:59 to figure out that they could break their chains with hammers, maybe they were better off being forced to do whatever it is they're being forced to do.
A bassline is called a bassline even if it's in a crappy euro trance song or in this.. I'm just addicted to the sound of the bass in this song.. both the tone and the rythm... damn
I'm so glad I did not have the mullet in the 80's but I did have a mohawk and skater bangs. The most amazing thing about this video is that it was once played on that joke MTV and it helped make that beast what it is today!
This'll come off as very cliche', but this is Mad Max meets 1984. It seems every other artist in the 80's did a Mad Max, post-apocalyptic style video - Interesting stuff.
I have no idea what brought this video to mind since I haven't seen it since, well when it came out. I'm 34 and used to LOVE this video as a kid. A bit freaked out now.

Trying to remember a song in the credits of a movie based on someone I think taking drugs about twenty years ago .I know for sure Rick sang the song. Thanks if anyone have the information.
Rick clearly has an interesting fantasy life. This is one seriously overdone video. As a few people have commented, this must have cost a mint to produce.
I gotta say, I wasn't too fond of this song when I first heard it on the album (too synthetic sounding compared to the rest of his stuff) but after watching this video so many times way back then it grew on me.
Great production values in this one for sure.
It was definately NOTHING like I would have ever imagined for a video of that song.
yes the music is great but the videos are so funny do you think in 20 years we will look back and say what was justin timberlake thinking when he made the sexy back video. it makes me feel so old to watch and listen to these. i was a teenager in the 80's and rick was my fav rock star. oh well he is still hot at 58 as he was at 38. i saw him in concert i was in awe of him and still am
I think that's the problem w/MTV now. People back in our day weren't afraid to take risks and make some truly memorable vids. Remember "Jeopardy" by Greg Kihn? Or "Fisheads"? Nowadays, all the vids look exactly the same. It's a shame.
Rick Springfield's 1984 release was a big hit...the whole "Hard To Hold" Soundtrack album is one of my favorite of that decade with songs like "Love Somebody", "Don't Walk Away", "Taxi Dancing(duet w/Randy Crawford)","Stand Up", "The Great Lost Art Of Conversation"...etc..I do agree with other comments...Music was MUSIC those days...and 1984 was a year when music took a new direction with a lot of great productions...
Thanks to Optyk2000 for posting and sharing this video...
Love this song! It's a good to do aerobics with. Even after 23 years, where Rick's music is concerned, I'm still doing what he advised "Bop Till You Drop"
Remember this song well.....plastered my bed room wall w/ Rick! He was is so talented...and those eyes! I sooo miss the 80's....when MTV was MTV and music was music. I think music took a fall in the late 90's. Though there is talent, so maybe our youth will be privledged.
thanks for taking me back 20+ years!! what a fun video back then. This was the type of video that you could never hear the song again without thinking of the video!
Man i loved this video when i was a kid! thanks to youtube i can go back to the ole school days and watch the old videos from ole schho mtv when mtv was cool
RS sucks. This video sucks. I know. I was a kid when this ridiculous concept video came out. Pure garbage. People will put anything on You Tube, I guess.
you know who sucks every singer from these days ,rappers, spanish rappers, and all that trash if you aint gonna say anything thats ok dont even say it at all
Yea...this is a rare one, as I don't think it's included on any video/dvd compilation. (Well, I don't have it at least.) Rick has said that his favorite video is "Dance This World Away"...and it happens to be my favorite too.
Rick is great live and I'm very excited that I will be seeing him in August.
Remember this video well. It played late summer 1984 on MTV. This really was the end of Rick Springfield though. i dont think he had any hits after this.
alot you know!!! He's had alot of things going on....3 new cds plus a complation he was involved w/plus doing charity concerts for an 11yr old young girl with brain stem tumor!!! you should research before you speak!!!!
Im not putting him down. i like Springfield. He is a very nice man. Im just saying he never had a top ten hit after this. I know he was a TV star also and appeared on a soap opera and on Battlestar Galactica. I like him. please dont be so defensive. You misunderstood.
my appologies then. I did misunderstood. Rick has had over 20 top 40 hits in his career and still going. Still Rocking!! And still putting out energetic music...still acts on occassion and still is touring as we speak in MI
rap is crap its just some black dudes touching and talking bout' stuff that they should'nt heck the cars and everything from these days is so rapish i hate it
"A very lot?" lol. I agree. I'm 15 and NO ONE knows who I'm talking about. It's my aunts fault that I like Rick. Lol! I got to sing on stage with him!! >.<
some kids like me love the past i mean i hate everything from these years i really hate them (except for my life) im only 12 love the 80's and i love this working class dog
Thank you Optyk2000...I've been looking for this song and video for a long time...I was born in the summer of 69 so I was right into the 80's music and I still am...catch you later. GO PENS>>>
My girlfriend talked me into taking her to see Rick Springfield in the early 80s. I balked but once I got over actually being at a Rick Springfield concert I had a good time. He put on a good show as I remember.
Dang! The video glitches right when the guard's dancing and the head monster guy yells at him to knock it off. I always laughed at that part when I was a kid.
Anyway, was never a big Rick Springfield fan but I sure dug this video. Really appealed to 11 year-old Star Wars freaks like me with the laser gun and creepy aliens.
un gran tema y video...me recuerdo y te vienes a la cabeza.....eres y fuiste lo mas hermoso de mi vida...

Agreed...I mean there are people who put live sets of Hall and Oates and the like on here.
Even worse there are people who actually favourite them.
Bizzare.
(Jokes folks...jokes...)
Optyk2000 4 years ago
Yea...this is a rare one, as I don't think it's included on any video/dvd compilation. (Well, I don't have it at least.) Rick has said that his favorite video is "Dance This World Away"...and it happens to be my favorite too.
Rick is great live and I'm very excited that I will be seeing him in August.

Remember this video well. It played late summer 1984 on MTV. This really was the end of Rick Springfield though. i dont think he had any hits after this.
Cool aliens.
drbotanus 4 years ago
alot you know!!! He's had alot of things going on....3 new cds plus a complation he was involved w/plus doing charity concerts for an 11yr old young girl with brain stem tumor!!! you should research before you speak!!!!
Beth4rls 4 years ago
Im not putting him down. i like Springfield. He is a very nice man. Im just saying he never had a top ten hit after this. I know he was a TV star also and appeared on a soap opera and on Battlestar Galactica. I like him. please dont be so defensive. You misunderstood.
drbotanus 4 years ago
my appologies then. I did misunderstood. Rick has had over 20 top 40 hits in his career and still going. Still Rocking!! And still putting out energetic music...still acts on occassion and still is touring as we speak in MI

I am 12 also, the past 80s and 90s songs are much better then present. I hate Hip Hop and Rap a very lot.

My girlfriend talked me into taking her to see Rick Springfield in the early 80s. I balked but once I got over actually being at a Rick Springfield concert I had a good time. He put on a good show as I remember.

Haven't seen this in years! I was always a big Rick Springfield fan. I still am. Thanks for the memories!!

MutantRomance 5 years ago
Yeah, I was bugged by that glitch too! But since this is a relatively obscure video, I'm glad I got to see this much.
tracknights 5 years ago
Yeah, I noticed that myself when I transferred the video.
Damn those VCR tapes...far too easy to corrode...
