Jesus saves from the guilt of sin by faith in his shed blood. That is why he came to earth, to die on the cross for our sins so we could go to heaven through faith in his blood. Repent of your sins and ask Jesus to come into your heart. Once you are saved from your sins, you are saved forever. Faith in Jesus is the only way to heaven. If you die in your sins you will burn in Hell and the Lake of Fire for all eternity. God bless.
It sounds like he's really havin' a good time, reading this, almost as if he was dancing around in his library with a half-full glass in his hand.. lol
Interesting. Some of the words are different. I do know the Lord of the Rings was edited to be more consistent more than once; most notably he probably changed the names because John and Jim don't work as hobbit names.
@AndrewzDescent I respectfully disagree, friend. This is when the immature English speakers become the majority of posters. >_< I am an American in my twenties who bothers to read the old classics such as Beowulf and other such works. Never once do I attach sexual meanings to these songs.
@vampirehunteramanda Pray tell what is wrong with sexual? Please tell me. Would it be we thought about war in the way you are repulsed by sexual innuendo.
@kobidobidog There is nothing wrong with sexual expression, nor did I state it was revolting in any way. I merely stated my annoyance over immature viewers who automatically giggled over the current usage of the word boner and not even bothering to realise Tolkien meant something completely different. I apologise if I wasn't clearer in my explanation.
@vampirehunteramanda Relax, giggling is good. The duality of words playing on words is a fun thing to do. I know the real the meaning Tolkien intended. it is not lost to me. There is a serious side to Tolkien. You want humans to see that side, and not just see the other side of the duality of the word.
Here's one thing I never got: how did Tom know that the bone the troll was gnawing on was his uncle's? Did it have some sort of distinctive marking on it or something?
I love Tolkien. He was a genious beyond all doubt!! A great linguist too! I'm trying to learn one of his 14 languages, but I'm. Not getting very far on it.
Right boner used to mean thief. The troll ate his leg therefore he stole it. Thats why he says boner at the end of this poem. "The bone he boned from his owner".
I wonder as well why the names and nonsense words are different in this version? Still, it is brilliant and I love hearing Tolkien singing in a rustic accent!
To be fair, I know lots of people who smoke fags and we're only in our early 20's late teens in some cases. So technically fags still does mean that, although in the US it's a different case. ;)
IF YOU EVEN SLIGHTLY BELIEVE CHAIN LETTERS & LOVE YOUR MOM THEN DONT READ! PLEASE DONT READ DO NOT READ DO NOT READ DO NOT READ swear do not read...I don't even know why I'm participating I guess I'm still a bit paranoid. But really do not read this I swear . Also thanks this was really appreciated. DO NOT READ:This is so stupid... But i love my mom deeply... And i don't want to take any chances. Sorry. If you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos your mom will die in 4 hour
well as chamberofrecords put what was in the book, this must be an earlier version of the song, as tolkien did do a fair piece of revising. i learned the tune for this and all the other songs from the great rob inglis who did the audio books, but this is wonderful as well. well, its tolkien singing it, so it would be.
Most of Tolkien's recording come from a summer he spent at a friend's house. The friend had a recording device and Tolkien (after saying the Lord's Prayer in Gothic to exorcise it) fell in love with the device. He used the machine to record readings from his uncompleted sequel to The Hobbit.
Your grandpa sounds like mine.....cool, but slightly warped. (No offense meant.....you should have heard some of the stuff my grandpa sang to ME. How many six-year-olds do you think know the words to 'Rye Whiskey'?)
that is Tolkien. He has that voice, that strange voice that is almost un understandable. He has that same draw to his voice. Atleast, I think it is him.
Chamberofrecords if I may ask are the recordings you post of Tolkien reading excerpts from his writings taken from The J.R.R. Tolkien audio collection?
I agree w/c55. Tolkien suspended our disbelief so well, that we adapted his subcreation into our world almost seamlessly.
I wonder where this master of language and articulation would have stood in today's world. Or where it would have stood in his. How he would have dueled with the technocracy, which I perceive, he was totally against, since some of LOTR was a rebellion against the industrial age. That incarnation was Mordor. And Isenguard (sp?) Get my thinking?
He's got a fine Irish accent on him there.

Jesus, people...this is what happens when Americans become the dominant English-speakers, everything becomes sexual and idiotic. -_-

Hmmm this version seems different. Tom is called John and the Uncle seems to be called Jim. Likewise, the three rhyming nonsense words are all wrong.
