@OliOsbourne Check out the Strymon Lex. It's made in the USA, it does all this and more, and is $200 or so less. I'm blessed to be playing for a living and that's what's on my board :) It really has no equal at this point.
I think rotary speaker simulations might be the most versatile modulation effect. You can get that "wet" sound of flangers and phasers with the "pulse" of a tremolo.
It's more than the price, it's the mileage you'll get. Trust me folks, they nailed it with this pedal, and this demo doesn't tell the half of it. The varying speeds of the two rotors, the wooly overdrive, cabinet sim, everything - if you want the warm, gooey Leslie sound it's right here. Any Strat through a fast chorus pedal can do the Cold Shot thing, but throw a Les Paul at it on slow speed and that's where the trip starts.
Great sounds. Really, I mean it. Let it loose, better then on Exile. However, I think it's overspec'd for live playing. And for recording I'd use a plugin... can be tempo synced, altered & tweaked afterwards... and may sound even more mojo.
@jimmyp73 After you hauled a real one around - up and down stairs, etc. for a year or two you might change your mind. Or after you had to fiddle with a real one to get it to work at all 10 minutes before showtime.. Then there are the hassles of reinforcing a real one. This sounds pretty darned close - and will fit in your gig bag. A couple guys who have these have told me it's absolutely the best Leslie emulator they've ever used.
@CRANKYONE100 Roland makes a Leslie emulator for $200 - pretty close. The RT-20 I believe is the model #. It ramps up/down. etc. Doesn't sound anywhere near this good, but like you say... it's half the price.
Great video, great sound, but it would look out of place on a pedal board. It looks like something a keyboard player would use. Not to mention I could have a go at 3 pgs pedals for this price.
Love the sounds it makes and tones too, but the enclosure is so late 80's looking and boring it should be in something much more special to its unique sounds and not that dull early 90's gunmetal flat grey color.
@Crodon I think this pedal is just right... I've heard leslies before and this thing is spot on. not to mention the high end components it must take to make it sound like it does. even the jacks are pretty high end. I think its no expense wasted on this thing.
I have and love the Strymon Lex, and honestly thought nothing else would come close in the stompbox category, but I gotta say this may actually be better. Love to hear an A/B comparison... Burgs?
@kiwiramjet I've only tried the Strymon in a shop, for around 1/2 hour. So a comparison would not really be fair unless I can A/B them in my own environment. FWIW I thought the Strymon was great but there was a little metallic or digital overtone evident which I noticed with the Bogner and Strat I was using in that shop. I've tried and demoed the Tech 21 Rotochoir as well, and it's great value, too. But nothing I've tried to date has sounded as good - at least to my ears - as The Ventilator.
good demo. I really want that pedal.
