@casablanca4381 My dad is a wise man . I thank God for his advice:)
This contradiction is part of why I can't stand the notion of religion. Why would you thank a higher power for the sound, earthly advice handed to you by your non-supernatural father?
To me, attributing all the positive accomplishments and events in your life to God means you're not taking responsibility and not getting/giving credit where it's due.
@AliRadicali well 1 as i stated my dad is a wise man but he doesn't know everything either
2. by your logic if we should take responsibility for things in life. Mankind may need to consider and realize some of it's problems are it's own doing and take responsibility for its ills and problems.
3. I'm glad you brought responsibility up because i think a lot of society doesn't understand responsibilty want to shift a blame on God , a racial group, or social class ect
@Peristerygr well most peeople whether realize it or not sub conciously raise theier kids to be like them. they are in essence at least in the sub concious mind an extension of themselves into the future.. most people would cringe at admiting this but the truth is your going to most likely raise your kids with same religious, political , social beliefs you hold. and so will I and most everyone else...
Since humans stepped out of the caves, we were constantly expanding our circle of love to include more people. We now reject genocide, racism and incest, things that were common centuries ago. We are in a crucial point in our development. Becoming completely spiritual by rejecting all selfish instincts and materialism is the next step. Rejecting Jesus, which represents 100% love, as a role model, is a step back for our consciousness. The time has come to raise our consciousness to the next level
My only gripe about The Athiest Experience is the sound level is never constant. Sometimes I have to crank up the volume on my laptop all the way up, even when I hook it up to my speaker set.
I tell my kids all the time that I don't believe in God. My 6 year old daughter tells me sometimes that her friends tell her at school that there is a God.
It's just part of our life, and we don't talk to her about disrespecting others at all.
@MrOttopants I can relate to that. My son is a sensitive situation for myself and my daughter ( athiests), his father is dabling in religions ( much like my mother did ), his latest stent was the muslim faith, and now I think he is with a Christian girl, so maybe that's what he is doing now. It pisses me off, he was Athiest when we were together ( still is I believe, but he trys to fit in). My daughter and I have to tip toe around my confused younger child for now. We don't want to confuse him.
My 13 yo son was recently tricked into attending a play "Passion of Mary" performed by a local church. His friend and friend's grandma thought it would help change his mind about Chritianity. He thought the story was "silly", especially the portrayal of the immaculate conception. The grandma also tried to convince him that Muslims were evil. My son later talked to his friend about the importance of honesty and respect and told him to keep his "crazy mean grandma" away from him. Atheists ftw :)
@thomask365 Thanks! He makes this momma proud. When he was 9, his dad was furious that I was sharing Zen Buddhist teachings with him; his sons would be god fearing Christians! He instructed my son to tell me he wanted to know about Jesus, not Buddha. My son then asked me "what's a jeesuz?". Dad has our sons most weekends, but apparently can't get to a church or talk to the kids about his strong convictions.
@untamedshrew69 That's funny,no time to get to the main belife in his life! Ha ha.I think most christians just go through the motions because of family traditions. I know a muslim guy who I asked to give a talk about his religion to some children,he did. He told them how its against his religion to drink. However, my sister knows his christian wife! He like nothing bettter than a cold Guiness. lol
If people were more honest most religions wouldn't last 5 minutes.
Regading gods - if they ask my opinion I would tell them that I don't think it is likely that such things exist. If they ask about dragons i would explain that human mythology probably made it up, possibly with the help of the odd dinosaur fossil.
@jeshopk No, telling them God doesn'e exist prevents them from going through the thought process without any pressure to believe or disbelieve, it encourages a healthy mind. Telling them the answer to some questions is a wasted oppurtunity.
Anyway, I will agree to disagree, because I do not beleive the state of a deity's existence or non-existence is known.
@jeshopk jeshopk. If my child asks me if God exists, I will ask them what they think. Once they have given me their opinion I will challenge them on their reasons and provide arguments to the contrary. Once a child is unable to answer they will realise the false nature of their beliefs. By going through this exercise the child has learned to question themselves, to question beliefs and positions and not just to follow their parents beliefs.
Don't raise your kids as atheists. Raise your kids as thinkers and as skeptics. Atheism should follow, if it doesn't - challenge them on their beliefs, but if you can't change their minds accept them and love them as they are.
Kids are free to make up their own minds regarding religion. I would never tell them there is no such thing as god/s. Naturally, theists won't approve of this method of parenting.

It is also matter how a parent see his/her children -as a doll, as an image for themselves or as a district person with all what that implies!!

Child abuse, be it sports teams or religion or whatever, seeing parents force it on their kid before they can even choose just always seemed wrong.

More like freethinking parenting, being an atheist should only be a small part of your parenting.

TO ALL PARENTS! THE BEST WAY TO RAISE YOUR KIDS TO BE ATHEISTS IS TO TEACH THEM ALL THE RELIGIONS. THEN, THEY'LL KNOW THAT THEY ARE ALL STUPID.
