Instead of using epic scores (used in Cleopatra, King of Kings, Spartacus, etc), which were common in the 20th century films, they used very ethnic sounding music in the 2000's films instead. Listen to Troy, Passion of the Christ and Gladiator's soundtrack, and many other sword films.
