  • :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • Critters are wicked.

    seriously these are inspiring

    Thanks

  • i love this video u did an awsome job ur awsome

  • thanx a lot men you tottaly inspired me.i love the joistick idea with the cables. Its simpler for a beginer. What did you use to make the skin in the face?

  • cool

  • Then how are cable controlled masks made? Surely there's no room for cams and paddles. Are the Cable just attached to silicone pieces glued to the skin?

  • i want one!

  • cool

  • Where did you learn to make the mechanics? I'm interested about making something like this myself but need visual reference. Are there any books of useful value?

  • Love Animatronics.

  • I think its cute I myself am makeing a sasquatch ,ask out of liquid latex

  • Critters WOOT

  • Critters eat people though.

  • Right... They eat people because they are nasty.

  • Only said that cause everyone's comparing them to gremlins. Sure in some concept they're similar, just not in the eating kind. Sorry if I was being a captain obvious.

  • wow that looks like a gremlin i mean the evil ones u know.

  • its a critter its nearly exactly like it exept gremlins came before

  • i know i've seen the movie before. These guys roll up in a ball and they totally eat people up when they roll over them at the carnival. They're aliens right? came from a spaceship. Its pretty cool how that did these guys back then.

  • But critters ate ET and spawn 3 squeals instead of 1. I kind of like Critters more than Gremlins, but that's me.

  • Very impressive work. I think you should do next time a short film in tribute to Ray Harryhausen or Will O'Brien. Also, it wil found if you finally do that gremlin puppet and use it for a comedy short, like: "When Gremlin meet Critter".

  • I love this video and it has helped me greatly with my hobby, cable controlled puppet. I plan on making a gizmo from gremlins.

  • I'm glad to hear that this video has inspired you! Have fun making your gizmo. I always had plans to do a gremlin too, but I still haven't gotten around to it. These things take a tremendous effort. One day soon!

  • Is this just a hobby for you, or do you do this type of work for a living? Your work is very professional and well constructed.

    Very impressive.

  • This is just hobby stuff. Making a living doing this kind of stuff is nearly impossible if you plan on have a remotely normal life. I just like animation. CGI, puppets, stop motion.

  • Great Job on the Critter!! I really like watching videos on creature making. I am a huge fan of the gremlins and I would like to see a detailed video on how to make a Gremlin from the original Gremlins movie. I cannot find one anywhere.

  • I'd like to see one too. However, I don't think any video actually exists of the original gremlins being made. Cinefex magazine # 19 shows some very detailed pictures, but I don't think anyone was insightful enough to take pictures.

  • same hear, i always whanted to see thes things

  • Ive sen versions on ebay b4 some mroe realistic than other ive onyl seen 2 version but none as advanced as this beauty. The movie was well done.. if ony they was a criters 5 but 16 years on i highly dobut don opper wud do it at least but josh whedon as rumoured to do it

  • Glad you like my Critter puppet and my fan film of Critters! I was always a big fan of the Critter films. I hope they don't do any more Critter films. I'm sure they would use CGI critters, rather than real puppets. Everything is turning into CGI these days.

  • acually they were goin 2 make a critters 5... i think it was called critters 5:cristmas attack... but im not sure... its on my site i know that

  • also my friend and i might make a critters 5 fanfilm,too.

  • How does it work with the moving eyes?

  • What I ment was how to make one that I can move around myself a simple puppet

  • How do you make a puppet without all of the cables and macanicks.

  • Contruction of a puppet without the mechanics would be the same as with cables, just minus the cables. In fact, the cables could be cut off it I wanted to. The process of making a puppet is essentially the same in the fact that you still have to sculpt the creature in clay to create a mould in which you can pour a media of your choice (latex or silicone or whatever).

  • what kinda hair do u use and where u purchase???

  • where can i buy a critter puppet

  • The purpose of this video really isn't to promote the sale of a product. What you see in the video is a hand made, custom, one-of-a-kind piece of art, not something that is mass produced. So, to answer your question, you can't buy this puppet anywhere. It's the only one that exists. But you can make one. It'll take a lot of hard work and determination. Or, you can get an FX person to make one for you.

  • Thats one awesome puppet! Are thinkig of making a full feature film, that you can enter in a film festival? With all the experience you have with these special effects you could easily get into the professional film businuess.

  • this is great

  • Dude that was better than the first one.

  • EXELENT!!!

  • Are you a machinist?

Did you fabricate the parts for the puppet?

What do you use for the flesh and hair?

    A million questions... LOL.

  • No, I'm not a machinist, but the parts need to be custom cut. Some of the metal parts have holes in them. Although this might look strange, the wholes helped reduce the weight of this puppet.

See Making a Monster part 1 for sculpting and skin questions.
