  • Like others, I too am not a NIMBY as I don't live in Sandiacre any more. However, I was born and bred in Sandiacre, attending Ladycross, Cloudside and Friesland schools; my mum still lives in Sandiacre. As a kid, we'd spend hours walking and playing in this area, up Risley Brook, across the fields to the Wizened Oak, and down into Stanton to try to fish in the pond. It was our safe playground and I'd wish to see that preserved for future children to enjoy as much as we did.

  • I guess what's proposed is the building is a lot of houses on an area which frankly, when it was Stanton Steelworks, was a total eyesore, so to paint this as vandalism is a bit strong. I guess the best solution to the road is to build a junction to the M1. What I really object to is the constant Mugabe references in this video - the guy's a mass murderer and to compare this scheme to what's happening in Zimbabwe just make the makers of the video look like rather petty minded Nimbies.

  • There can few who do not share the sentiments expressed in the video, and very many who would join the fight to get it replaced by one of the alternative routes. For local convenience, the new M1 junction alternative may be preferred, but realistically, it is a non-starter, so talking about it is falling into the developers hands. All alternatives will have affects on people, and each will attract its own nimbies, but only this disastrous alternative will affect a wide variety of people.

  • Bless the parish council for buying a tripod to make this. And how did they get Peter Stringfellow to do the voiceover? But seriously... typical NIMBY propaganda. What is wrong with creating new homes, jobs, amenities on the complete eyesore that is the old Stanton Iron works? Get rid of this blot on the landscape for good! Would have been ok if it wasn't such a reactionary, sensationalist, unbalanced piece of work.

  • With a user name like Betamaxtape I'm afraid that says it all - bless!

  • Protest will not help.

    Fight for it.

    I'm in, contact me.

  • Typical. Can't be allowed to happen

  • I cannot believe that Erewash Borough Council who are supposed to represent local people are contemplating ruining our countryside now and for ever..What right have they to even consider going through our GREEN BELT. Whoever has voted for this proposed route through our lovely countrside should be..... NAMED AND SHAMED.......RESIGN NOW!

  • I have sent my protest email. is anyone on here up to starting a petion on the number 10 Downing Street petition site

  • i have sent my protest email, is anyone on here up to starting a petion on the 10 Downing Street petition site??

  • This is yet another example of how our beautiful country is being taken away from us. I'm not against using brownfield sites but green belt should stay greenbelt. Surely by creating another junction on the M1 whilst it's being widened is the most obvious route to take and feed this brownfield site that way instead of plowing through this beautiful landscape. Leave our conryside alone for future generations to enjoy.

  • This is utterly disgusting and yet another example of how our beautiful country is slowly being taken away from us. Using brownfield sites is fine and I'm not against that but a greenbelt site should remain greenbelt and not taken away by this underhanded move. The M1 is the most obvious solution by making another junction to feed the brownfield site and as the M1 is being widened anyway surely this be done at the same time, please leave our countryside alone for future generations to enjoy!!

  • I'm Welsh. I'm proud to be a Welsh speaking Welshman BUT, I spent my early and school years in Sandiacre (Cloudside and Friesland)and grew to love this wonderful area. What is proposed is vandalism on a huge scale.

  • Having lived in and around this area for 35 years we find it incredible that Erewash council can even consider such a proposal.

We need to preserve our green areas not run tarmac roads all over them - my letter to the council has just been sent - anyone else watching this please DO act not just watch.

  • The proposed route sounds like a complete travesty. Presumably there is no implicit objection to the re-development of Stanton works per se? More information please on the alternative routes - or how can we access that information ourselves? When are decisions to be made?

  • I may have left 25 years ago, and now live in France but surely there are enough real brownfield sites that can be used, but this just appears to be profit grabbing.

And if they ruin the pond and ther cricket pitch that wlould be a travesty.

    Good luck

  • A typically stupid and money lead idea from Erewash Borough Council. Still, At least its not yet another Tesco's I guess!

Must admit that I did find the choice of background music quite comical. It does smack a little of "Britain, Britain Britain..."

  • I live in nearby Sandiacre which you may have spotted on the signpost: I have e mailed local & non-local MPs and local councillors to express my horror at this proposal which destroys a beautiful piece of countryside - home to skylarks, yellowhammers, a buzzard, kestrels, sparrowhawks, goldfinches and lovely paths & woodland. It is possible to walk for miles & cross only one main road...what price can ever be justified to put it under tarmac?

    Christine. Derbyshire

  • Can we see more footage of the tractor around the four minute mark. Thanks. Oh and I am against the road.

  • You sure can! Just hit the play button again and as if by magic ...

  • this is disgusting ! but the whole country is paying for bad management by councils and government. money talks councils listen SORRY

  • This Is INSANE

  • Propaganda is an accurate description of this video, but it should not be construed as derogatory. I grew up in Kirk Hallam albeit a long time ago and used to walk through the Ladywood woods & surrounding fields to Dale Abbey, a great piece of our fast dwindling heritage. What will it take to convince these people that once these monuments and their surroundings are gone they cannot be replaced for us, our children or even their grandchildren to appreciate. I think EBC should think again.

  • nice video, but in the interest of a balanced view where are the plans showing all the alternatives and views from the planning authority and scheme promoter. well put together propoganda flick.

  • Up to now we've heard nothing BUT the views of Erewash Council and Spring. This is Joe Public's ten minutes worth and it hasn't even started to redress the imbalance.

  • An appalling sign of the times....and typical of money grabbing politicians who will do anything to glean money, as long as its not on " their patch "....Great video..x

  • the truth is out. typical of this government- find any means to destroy the countyside

  • Great documentary with all views taken on board. You have our full support. What can we do next? I like the part about it being our own little National Park, so KEEP OUT!

This area counts for so much for so many people lets not ruin it.

  • Sad, sad situation. How about a "Save the Dale" Protest March or Protest Day, get the national media involved?

I pity the ones selling off their land (at 6 x its value), but can understand their attitude: grab what you can now or have a CPO imposed, which would mean getting a pittance.

Tories & NuLab working together to destroy the countryside and communities.

Do you have a standard protest letter which can be sent to Erewash Council?

    Great video, Paul.

  • I'm with you sippy111.

  • im with you ken!!!
