  • he said not one of us is smarter than all of us

this is wrong IM SMARTER THAT ALL OF YOUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've been carrying a Leatherman Charge and Cold Steel AK every day for a very long time. And really the only reason for that is that the CS knife is quicker to deploy for me, and I have much more faith in the locking mechanism should I ever get stranded (I go outdoors a lot) than I do the leatherman, which I carry for it's toolset (pliers and bitset are the ones I use most often).

  • I carry both a leatherman wingman and a folding knife. I think carrying a multi tool is smart. Great video.

  • I have some good knives. But I like to carry a rat 1 and a swiss tool spirit for work. The rat 1 is a great beater knife for work. The swiss tool is well made but it is to polished which makes it a bit slippery when wet. I agree with most here you need both. I also really like the swiss army alox pioneer with a tactical folder. This will be a good combo for quick slicing and beer opeining

  • I myself live in Kentucky the vast majority of the populace carry a pocket knife with them at all times. I only know of 2 people that have been in a knife fight one of them was a complete moron who's stupidity got him killed, the other was attacked with a knife and was able to disarm his assailant. Most people who carry knives do so because of the overwhelming usefulness they serve.

  • For EDC for me multitool is best,if you have a good quality multitool you dont need a pocket knife, that is ofcourse my opinion.Cheers Adam.

  • I carry both a multi tool and a pocket knife. I dont use the knife on my mt much beacuase I have my primary blade, I use it more for the pliers. bottle opener, and even the saw a few times.

  • If somebody tried to hurt me I'd give the Louisiana special foot up in ass

  • i think that pocket knives should have a size limit of a reasonable length but unfortunately i live in the UK and they are very strict on pocket knives and multi tools with lock systems.

if you get found by the police with a lock knife or multi tool with a lock system you can go to prison for a max of 15 years.

  • I carry a Leatherman Skeletool in my right hand front pocket, and Izula II in left hand front pocket. Once the Skeletool came out, I never carried a pocket knife anymore. I have a Leatherman MUT in my go bag in the truck.

  • When I am going to class I carry a simple folding Kershaw knife but when I am out away from campus in the general public or when I am working and using a knife more often then I carry a Buck Max Lite fixed blade and a Leatherman on my belt. The Buck Max Lite does catch a lot of looks because it is a fixed blade but it is a great and very light knife. I have never encountered a situation where I needed to pull a knife, but if I did I would much rather have a fixed blade as opposed to a folder.

  • pocket knife multi tools suck ass

  • I agree that you should have knowledge on fighting in general. insted of just thinking that a knife will get you out of a situation without the proper training. Im sorry people out there that think just having the knife as intimidation is going to help you out in a situation if your carrying a knife for that purpose you better know hoe to use it.

  • I carry a Leatherman Core and a Leatherman e303 pocket knife every day. I find the e303 is better to use as a knife than the Core but I can use the Core's knives if needed. I usually play Disc Golf once a day and even then I will carry my e303 either in my pocket or on my DG bag.

  • I carry a Gerber Suspension and a neck knife. Its a CRKT Minimalist. So far they have not let me down. Very good products.

  • I carry a pocket knife and a letherman, either the charge ALX or the Fuse. I more often carry the fuse due to the lighter weight and it does the job. I keep the ALX in my maxpedition versipak so I have a multi-tool with me no matter what.

  • I carry a charge TTI and a pocketknife every day. I honestly use both almost every day. You are always going to need to tighten a screw, open a box, and use a pair of pliers.

  • Multi-tool every time. The only reason your grandfather carried just a pocket knife was that apart from a Swiss Army Knife. There was really no other choice, The new type Multi-tool offers far more options especially if you do a lot of motoring, The only real drawback is price, You can buy very cheap ones, But they are crap, As to the weight issue, Once your prepared to carry it, It`s no different to wearing a hat really is it ? If you are going to wear one, Your not going to care

  • I live with my charge front right pocket. i don't even notice it. i'm on the go around 20 hours a day it goes on the nightstand. its the first thing in my pockets and last thing out. i do normally carry some type of small utility folder 3 to 4 inch blade left front pocket. i have a few minis on key chains and such ease of use. i'm an instructor level in eskrima and kali. fist thing you need to know if you want to fight with knifes your going to get cut. personally i would rather use a stick.

  • I come from martial arts, EMS, and Firefighter background enough to know that fights like that suck, and unless you really have a masterly grasp on what you're doing, it would be very difficult to manage the situation in any manner with a pocket knife. I find carrying a tactical knife just makes the general public intimidated instead of secure around me, and I just don't like that image. But because it's necessary for me to carry a blade and tools, I find the Charge a fit companion.

  • hey Adam, I've carried the Charge for 2 years now; I'm very rarely without it - i.e. showering. I wear it on my belt, but if I haven't a belt on I'll use the pocket clip for either pocket or IWB carry. I use it ALL THE TIME, the scissors the can opener (has literally replaced my broken electric opener), the drivers, etc. I'd go from wiring my entire edition to prepping lunch without a thought. I do carry a larger knife when occasion calls for it, but not often. Love your channel and insight.

  • Well, Adam ... I carry a Wenger 16320 Pocket Knife, Rangergrip 78 Red & Black Swiss Army, *in* my pocket ... A Cold-Steel Voyager XL *on* my pocket and a Leatherman Surge (Black Oxide) *with* bit-set and extension, in a nylon sheath, on my BDU belt. That is every-day and everywhere except for gummit buildings. I am almost embarassed to say that I also carry a Mora Bushcraft Force and have a Pocket Bushman, in an admin pouch (plus DMT Diafolds & filter), as well. ... Is that sick?

  • Old vid, I know, but somehow I missed it when it was uploaded. I carry both. Didn't used to. I got a SwissTool RS by chance when I bought a small lot of knives from a member of a fountain pen mailing list. The knife that caught my interest in that lot was a Delica but the SwissTool, which I'd never heard of, was in that lot also. Took a while for me to warm up to it, but now I carry it along with the Delica and a Mini Grip. Don't need it that often but when I do I'm glad I have it.

  • Oh and i carry a multi tool hunting and fishing and a regular knife at the same tiime its legal here i checked

  • I do a ton of bow hunting and i'm starting to move up into unknown territory and im putting a survival bag together her any tips i live in a region full of mountains and it gets very cold at night. I need some hints on good clothing and equipment. Can ya help me out?

  • If you carry one, carry the other so long as it is legal. I work in retail and have completely changed my stores policy on carrying our own blades (before only leathermans and other multi tools were "legal". The blade on a multitool is uncomfortable in repetitive use and ive hurt myself with the lack of grip an support that a regular knife would provide.

  • Adam my man, i might not have put it as cool as you, but i've always thought it to be important to always be prepared as well. Mannn the last time i was outside without a knife in my pocket i was........swimming!lol But seriously, in my edc (without giving the whole rundown) i carry both a knife (sog flash 2) and a multitool (charge tti w/bit kit revised) ALWAYS. I like being able to access my sog with my gloves still on. i also like the idea of a clean sharp knife at the ready on my charge.

  • I carry a Leatherman wave in a holster on my belt and a Spyder co Endura FFG in my pocket not very much I cant do with those 2 tools

  • i carry a m16 14d crkt dessert bigdog , gebrer crusader , leatherman surge and occassionally a Wenger Ranger Grip RangerGrip 179 Patagonian or a swiss army knife

  • Not a big Spyderco fan, but am looking at the Tenacious and Persistence as an EDC. Reviews on these knives have been great.

  • @bookpacker Endura is my favorite but the delica is the exact same just a little smaller I try to buy new knives to carry but I always go back to my endura

  • I carry Leatherman C33LX and Coast LED micro pliers "I also have Victorinox spartan but I don't really like swiss knives, makes me feel like a boy scout", and I can't imagine myself needing much bigger or dangerous looking thing as I walk in the street....using a knife for self defense has no standards, it always depends on what the other guy has, so I'll have to carry a bazooka if I wanna be prepared for the worst :P

  • i carry both but i have a little pocket knife i have the kershaw chive soo when and i carry my gerber fastdraw and when i need a people friendly blade i use my multi-tool

  • leatherman wave is my edc multi tool and knife and i have had normal knives not that comfortable

  • I carry a Kershaw cyclone half serrated and a Gerber suspension multi-tool. I love my Kershaw, I've carried it for 3 years. The only problem is the open assist broke last year. The newer made in China Gerber multi-tools ( like the suspension) don't hold a candle to the old Gerber multi-tools. I should have bought a leatherman multi-tool.

  • LOL .... You got the "$1" Walmart knife.... I got it too and tried stabbing it into a drywall a year ago or so.... The plastic handle cracked :)

Actually for light duty use it wouldn't be that bad but it has shitty steel and horrible serrations so it's hard to even sharpen it. LOL don't buy it.

  • I cary a Cold Steel Urban Pal and a Leatherman Squirt S4 in my pockets, a Victorinox Swisscard in my wallet, a Utilikey with my keys, and when I bring my small bag along, a Victorinox Swisstool Spirit X. Yes, I am addicted to multitools, what can I do?

Except for the heavy Swisstool, I hardly notice the others, being so light and compact.

  • Multitool.

Why? Because I live in the UK and anything locking and above 3 inches is illegal.

That said, the Charge I carry is strictly illegal as it is locking. Still I only ever carry and Juice CS4 or Charge TTI.

  • I've carried a pocket knife for 40 years. I have had a lot, and I have to say that I always

wind up carrying my spyderco. Always there, always ready, always comfortable and easy to use. Great Steels. IMHO, best bang for the buck for a standard Pocket Knife.

Leatherman Charge TTI is my favorite Mult-Tool.

  • I work on farms, camp and other stuff so I find it best to have both I prefer nice solid one piece knives though. But if you walk up to me on the street ,when I'm not in school, I'll have a one piece boot knife, My folding kershaw and a multi-tool (which actually I need to replace cause after using it I feel in love with the Bear Grylls Multi-tool but I almost always have 2-3 blades on me including my multitool.

  • Adam, love the videos.you are well spoken and very informative. In the state I live in there is not much regulation as far as knives.I work construction and the edc that i carry is a swiss army tinker. With the multiple tools and the small size with a blade about 3" I always have this with me.If I did not use it so often, I would forget it's there.Your edc should be second nature to carry I know mine is...

  • i carry my kershaw skyline and 80% of the time i carry my leatherman wave on my belt.. if weight wasnt a option id carry it all the time

id say if i picked 1 thing though, id pick the wave

  • My current EDC is a CRKT Drifter. Not a big fan of CRKT, but this knife was inexpensive with a good design. Light and easy to have in the pocket. Not so big that it looks aggressive and not so small that it is an ineffective tool.

I keep my Leatherman Wave in the car. Too bulky/heavy to carry, but I like having it nearby.

  • @bookpacker I got a drifter recently and I agree that it is a small but awesome edc. The reason why it is so great is that it closely resembles a popular sabenza model.

  • Gerber Paraframe II partially serrated, youll never find a better carry knife!

  • @bowenarrow814 thats an aweosome knife, cheap and usefull. i carry a victorinox camper, the classic, and some no name "turtle" set of of plyers. I used to carry the paraframe, but the saw on the camper has proven to be worth its weight in twice as much gold for me,, i carry the other stuff cause i fish alot.

  • I carry large leather man, at work on my tool belt as a commercial carpenter, i can cut chamfer with the little saw and then cut Tie wire in slab or wall rebar if i need access. It is a fantastic tool, i carry a heavy duty olfa knife, alwys razor sharp , and the company pays for blades

  • Im looking for a good edc pocket knife but I dont want anything to flashy wat do u recommend

  • Im looking for a good edc pocket knife but I dont want anything to falshy wat do u recommend

  • @30Kstate Gerber Paraframe II partially serrated

  • i usualy cary a mid size multi plier, a folding knife like my spyderco tenacious or crkt natural, and a SAK like the one handed trecker, and a small fixed blade or instead of a small fixed blade i will carry a buck 110. i usualy have all that at once. i guess its kind of over kill but im prepared for every thing

  • Both. Benchmade Griptillian 551 mdp plain edge and a gerber multi, Soon to be replaced with a leatherman charge tti. Their both used as tools at home and work.

The Grip has got some negitive responses at work. Sheeple are afraid of just about anything nowadays.

  • I keep a Gerber tool on me at all times. I am actually in the market for a poket knife. I also usualy have a Case slab side hunter on a belt. the Question seems to be for some people is it a weapon or a tool ?

  • I keep a Gerber tool on me at all times. I am actually in the market for a poket knife. I also usualy have a Case slab side hunter on a belt

  • You could use your MT as an impact device

  • I think that the balisong is one of the most reliable pocket knives. for me at least. There is no blade play compared to say, a linear lock knife. But this is only my personal opinion.

  • Adam, there is a combat engineer issued Gerber multi-tool in Canada. I was wondering if you had a hook up but i have not found it. If you have found it please let me know i am quite interested. thanks

  • knives over multi tools? I choose knives....the world has survived a long long timewithout leatherman and gerbers...

  • I used to carry a small pocket knife but after switching to a multi-tool (Gerber Suspension) i find the applications almost endless. The only down side to carrying a multi-tool rather than a small pocket knife is that you can really feel the thing in your pocket and if your doing any physical activity then it bounces around quite a bit so I tend to wear it on a belt.

Where they lack in blade size they make up for in usages

  • i carry a benchmade styker in my right pocket. (for cutting larger things or when needed quickly around people who dont care if you pull a knife out to cut something), then in my left pocket with my cell phone i carry a swiss made pocket pal (small two blade only swiss knife) which could really scare anyone. in my wallet i carry a swiss card....

  • I always carry both types, the Leatherman Charge on my belt with the optional bit set for all the versitality I could want and an assist-opener Kershaw for a fast-deploying, all purpose blade. In a social setting in which I don't want to appear threatening and avoid making people feel uneasy, I'll take to time to get out the leatherman. It's still one-hand opening, a154cm steel, but very low threat perception, compared to the speed and ease of use, flicking out the Kershaw for a quick cut.

  • i carry a leatherman charge AL in my bag. in theory anything with a locking blade is illegal here in Belgium, but i never heard of anyone getting in trouble for carrying a multitool/SAK. it really comes down to the cop believing you that you just use it as a tool, and its much easier to convince them with a multitool than a simple blade. btw i never came across a situation where i wished i had a bigger sturdier knife... the leatherman is great for me.

  • I carry a tanto Ka-bar warthog(general cutting, self defense if need be) and a Gerber Solstice(other non cutting things) MT on my keychain.Thinking about getting a Leatherman Wave or a Gerber Suspension to replace both though since carrying a MT is less "threatening" and so less trouble with police especially with the random bag searches and sometimes pocket searches here.

  • @Drownedinblood It's truely money well spent to purchase the Leatherman Charge. I've got and very highly recommend the TTi because the two bit drivers on the ALX are entirely redundant, and the AL is just short a few features. If you do take this route, I'd also very highly recommend the nylon sheath because the leather one doesn't have the same expansion capability. Add a bit set (fits in a built-in pocket in the same sheith w/ your knife, as well as a bit extender, and a micro-mag lite.

  • I'm really impressed by the SOG EOD PowerAssist Multi-Tool because of its features. I'd love your reviews, they're very upfront and thorough, and I'd love to see a review on that multi-tool if you're interested.

  • SOG pentagon elite

  • I carry both a Rat-1 folder and a Leatherman Juice S2. The S2 has been used so much that I never leave home without it. Great vid!

  • I carry around my Leatherman Wave *The old one before it was patented* almost all of the time. I use that multi-tool to fix and fiddle with so many different things. That tool has fixed bikes, computers, and other random things. It is just an overall good and well made tool. When i go camping and hiking i take my Wave as well as my Gerber LMF2.

  • I used to carry a Kershaw Groove all the time

now i carry a Kershaw Spec Bump - awesome knife!!!

i use it for everyday tasks and i can definitely use it for self defense - god forbid :)

a knife has saved my life once already - car accident - long story

    ';'peace';'

  • Shweeet I have that Gurber suspension !

  • I carry a knife with me everyday for self defence. If I were to be attacked a knife would definately improve my odds. However just because I carry a knife does not mean I have to use it and I would not in a hand to hand situation. I don't agree with your statement that if you arn't much of hand to hand fighter a knife is a disadvantage Infact Quite the contrary.-Vincent

  • i usually will have one of each, both being pretty lightweight

  • I usually take a mini Gerber Vise multi-tool with me and a small folder that rides on the pocket clip on my pocket. Most of the time i use the folder for utility tasks, but when i find myself in a bigger crowd and need to use a knife i use the little blade in the mini multi-tool i carry. People dont get scared as much seeing me use a small 1.5 inch blade on my multi-tool.

  • I have a gerber gator knife and a gerber multi tool. Personally, unless I'm at a shooting range or working with some sort of mechanical device, I use the knife a whole lot more than the multi tool. As for the combat aspect, I agree that a pocket knife will not drastically improve the situation against a skilled enemy combatant, but it could still act as a deterant against an everyday person.

  • I happen to carry and multitool and pocket knife. Lately it has been the Leatherman wave and the Spyderco Persistance. I'll use my leatherman if I need tools and I don't have a toolbox nearby. Mainly just use my persistance for breaking down boxes, cutting cable ties.

  • If you use a knife as a defense I would say upgrade to a sword.

  • @ptownpresident , lol good one!

  • @ptownpresident lol, bad one, a sword cannot be swung as fast as a small knife, nor is it as accurate in attacking, also, it weighs like 3 lbs. dont be dumb. who carrys a sword, you only need a sword when facing a sword.

  • both. a designated utility knife is always sth that's handy and that works. plus it saves the edge on the multitool blade for when you really need it. and there were those situations where one blade just wasn't enough

  • leatherman everywhere!

  • my edc includes a leatherman micra and a swith n wesson HRT its a little big though :) 4 inch blade. my micra has a funny little bowie blade that i keep razor sharp and that either in my mintbox survival kit or in the key pocket inside the normal jeans pocket.

  • I carry a leatherman every day. I find that I use the pliers and screw drivers more than the knife blades. I also find the erganomics of the leatherman much better than the gerber.

  • i do not consider the gerber pliers a very useful EDC tool. the main issue is the flatnose pliers. needlenose pliers are much more useful for everyday uses.

  • i do not consider the gerber pliers a very useful EDC tool. the main issue is the flatnose pliers. needlenose pliers are much more useful for everyday uses.

  • I carry a Victorinox Swiss Tool and a Sog Flash 2 everyday. And in times and places where I can't carry my gun, I actually carry a Cold Steel Rajah 1.

  • I carry a multi-tool (curently a leatherman blast) and a pocketknife. The pocketknife is used for everyday cutting. If I need a larger knife I use the multi-tool. I've carried a pocketknife since I was 12 (except to school) it's hard to think of not having one.

  • In my pocket, a Victorinox Tinker or Tinker Deluxe. Entirely too useful to go through my day without. Enitriely too usefull to others considering the number of times it gets borrowed.

I've carries the heavier lock knives (Buck Crosslock), but they just don't have the day to day utility the little SAKs have.

I like the multitools, but I can't see adding half a pound to my left front pocket for an EDC.

  • Hey good point in reference to the weight. I wonder is it better to carry a multi-tool in a belt mounted case? Thanks for you comment.

    - Adam

  • @Clangohseven add it to your belt... mts suck carrying in the pocket!

  • i carry my Spyderco Native III as well as my Leatherman Wave. Sometimes you need a blade but, pulling out a knife is inappropriate. I find people are a lot less threatened with the multi tool blade. If I'm wearing a suit and can't take the multi tool, I take my Victorinox Soldier (ols version) for the same reason. No one seems to get threatened by a Swiss Army knife.

  • Very good point in reference to a knife being perceived as threatening.

    - Adam

  • @Equip2Endure Adam I love all your work and concepts. I believe from my own experience to carry as many tools as you can handle. I carry at minimum an ESEE-3 and a Leatherman Charge TTi. If ever a situation arises where you get yourself in a jam you will never be thinking I wish I brought less tools. They are the fabricators of everything else. If I go into the wilderness I always add a regular size belt knife and a folding saw.

  • For EDC I use a victorinox Climber, but for bush craft I prefer a fixed blade like the FR 860MG.

  • EDC: Benchmade model 32?, (pre-42).

great blade shape/length,and it makes for a good impact tool.

  • I Carry a small multitool (Leatherman Squirt or Juice) and a folder for "knife jobs" (Kershaw Leek, Scallion, or CRKT M16)

  • I carry a Leatherman Surge, and my Zero Tolerance 0302,(among a myriad of other things,) everyday, without fail. I have found that neither one can replace the other. I agree with you on your knife fighting opinions. If I know I'm about to get in a knife fight, I'll evac. If that's not an option, either my Glock 17, or Kimber .45, (whichever one I have on me,) is there for plan B.

  • I carry a Charge Ti right now as my edc everything, but as stated in the video, even with titanium, it's still a heavy option (and sort of bulky too when on the hip). Now that I have an edc bag that I use it can go in that so I'm looking for an actual folder now. Most likely going to go with the Benchmade Mini Griptilian - and my spring for the Doug Ritter version. I don't really believe in a collection of knives, just one very good one so I don't mind that much on spending more on the Ritter.

  • If big brother is saying pocket knives should be illegal then beer bottles, soda cans, and sharp fingernails should also be illegal. Even the clamshell packaging of some electronics can be used as a deadly weapon. Flakes of volcanic glass. A paper clip sharpened on a rock. Anything can potentially be made into a deadly weapon. A knife is just a tool, like a car or a hammer, and all tools can be used to do good or bad. Big brother knows this and doesn't care.

  • I carry a Victorinox and a Cold Steel Recon 1. Buisness and pleasure. Norway :)

  • This is a good video for discussion.

    Personally, I carry both everyday.

I have a benchmade folder in my pocket. I use it for 99% of cutting tasks.

I have a leatherman multitool on my belt. I use it for non cutting chores; pliers, screw driver, file work. I reserve the razor sharp blade on my multitool for the remaining 1% of cutting tasks, where the sharpest edge possible is needed for fine precision.

  • wat was that silver multi tool?... think you said charge or something like that lol wanted to know what kind it is, looks nice.

  • It's a Leatherman Charge. Good tool, not the best pliers.

    - Adam

  • I just bought a Swiss Army Victorinox one hand Trekker to use as my EDC knife. I have always carried other pocket knives, however I needed something a little more multifunctional and with my current job I cannot carry a multi tool on my belt. The Trekker has a locking blade, 12 functions and not that large.

However for outdoor and woods useage, I always have my multi tool and fixed blade.

  • I work in IT - the leatherman wave is my tool pf choice for daily carry

  • its all about options..

  • multiple multi-tools and even more knives, thats how i roll. my usual setup is a benchmade mini-ambush(love that knife) and a leatherman wave backed up by a frost army model.

  • I usually carry a one blade Sharade knive and a Wenger swiss army knife

  • i'm irish knives are seen as scary things here so if i'm going to have to use it infront of people it'll be one of many sak's or my leatherman surge but if not i'll carry a locking folder sometimes i carry both if i'm gonna be moving around a lot

  • ah that sucks for u

  • I know when im at work i carry an auto open 3.5 in in my pocket and a leatherman blast on my belt. i work in an chem. plant. multi-tool comes in handy. But when out in town i just carry the knife in my pocket, and ill have a tool in my E.D.C bag . Can never have enough stuff ! Great vid adam

  • I try to always have a knife on me, but I have to admit that having a multi tule comes in handy. Sometimes I carry a Swiss arms that has everything including plyers.

  • What I think matters most is not just which has more capability but which will see more use. ex: A dockworker won't need the safe load out as someone who pushes paper in an office building. After you decide what it is that you need then you can determine which (knife or multi-tool (or both)) would be more suited for your line of work. I am a college student, I don't NEED a large multi-tool, I carry a knife basically because that's all I need, but like I said your needs will vary.

  • Very valid point,

    - Adam

  • My opinion is: for self defence, a folding or a spring loaded knife is the best choise. I have a butterfly knife and i must say, it doesn't give a good grip.

When I go hiking for a day or few hours, I bring my Swiss Army Kit: Swiss Army knife, a small flashlight, a small multitool (thermometer, magnifier and compass), all in one small holster.

I culd do a video review once. I'd let you know. ;)

Sorry for my bad english btw.

    Nice vid.

  • I would take a .45 over a knife for self defense anyday :)

  • Yes It works better but for the 80% of all ppl in the world that are not aloud to carry a gun then a good knife is the right choice....

  • I carry an old school gerber multi tool( needlenose) at work and my crkt mil 1* when i am in the woods i carry a gerber stub nose multi tool and a mora plus my crkt. I don't use the knife on the multi toll much but the rest of the tools are invaluable. great job adam keep it up.

  • I couldn't agree more with u Adam! My old martial arts instructor did'nt let anyone train with weapons until they had received their black belt. He was very old school korean but I agree with that. I always carry both a pocket knife and a Leatherman Juice. I'm a white collar guy and found some of the larger MT too large and heavy for EDC.

  • I tend to carry at very lest a Swiss Army on my keys, most of the time I have a Kershaw folder and a Multi tool. You can never have enough knives or tools. Rock on Adam!

  • with respect to my opinion of the law, well as a dog owner you should know that the law is based on animal response! and trying to stop people doing what they want just makes things worst but thats obviouse. good vid again adam...

  • Thanks,

    - Adam

  • my edc is a leatherman charge ti, even though i live in the uk, because i have a bike and its like a tool in my jacket, fundamentaly i use it for every thing though, great knife

  • the edge of the handle on my mutli tools really dig into my hand (there cheap). swiss army knife is much more comfy to use as long as its not a 12inch wide kitchen sink model. for whitlin a single blade is easier to control and more solid feeling . for everyday handy knife i would pick the swiss cos fairly comfy / lots of uses .butterfly knives are illegal in the uk so solves that for me . knives arnt dangerous people are . in a fight i would use my hands and feet to get the hell out o there :)

  • Lol, good form! Yeah one of my buddies was in the Navy on shore-leave in the UK and got arrested because they could see his pocket knife. They let him go, but gave him hell. He tell it like it a funny story, but was pissed because the knife cost around $150. Take care,

    - Adam

  • @littledrago7 There are more ergonomic multi-tools than the classic type you seem to refer to here, digging into your hand. For instance I have none of that sort of trouble with my Leatherman Charge.

  • On my belt I got a Mora 2000 and a Leatherman Charge... In Norway it is illegal w/ a balisong and assisted opening knifes. You also need to have a use for a knife to be able to carry it... In meaning "a fishing knife if you are going to fish" or simular stuff.... If you dont need a knife and you meet a police man that knows the rules and is having a bad day, you can get arrested... i think it is max 60 days in jail....

  • The Mora 2000 is a great knife! Do you think a balisong or assisted opening knife make them more prone for fighting? That is interesting in regards to the identifiable purpose to carry the blade. Thanks for the comment.

    - Adam

  • Well as a knife collector i think that no knife needs to be illegal... But when you see a dude flipping a balisong, then you do feel a bit afraid when you need to walk past him... (Or am i just paranoid) When it comes to ass. opening knife I think it is bullcrap that it is illegal. Is't like 0.5 sek faster to open but so what... But all we can do in this cold country is to obey the law..... The mora 2000 works great for me since I'm in the army atm...

  • @Equip2Endure The POU (philosophy of use, from nutnfancy) for these are as defencive/fighting blades, and will generally be perceived as such by the general public as well. Except where specifically prohibited, I believe such knives can be used in less-threatening manner. My Kershaw, while being an assist-opening knife isn't very tactical, but seeing that blade flick open so fast has worried people in close proxcimity, despite the fact I was simply breaking down a box or other mundane task.

  • @H1tMaster Here in Minnesota, the knife carry laws are very general - no switchblade/automatic knives, and none with the intent of harming or threatening someone. However, some public buildings and stores have no-weapon signs beside the door, and for such places it is illegal to carry, but there aren't many that have those. So you can carry just about anything provided you are not threatening, or that the knife is obviously purposeful in causing harm.

  • I carry a Swiss classic on my car key chain. my work keys has a leatherman squirt and my back pocket is an spyderco delica 3. my brief case has a spyderco stretch

  • I carry a ka-bar mule every day for my edc. its a great utility knife, and it works for me. AUS8A stainless

  • leatherman juice s2 left pocket, spyderco tenacious in the right pocket

  • Hey good topic Adam, I carry a Leatherman Wave EVERYWHERE I go. I used to carry SAK's but find the addition of the pliers on the Leatherman are worth the extra weight. The only thing I miss many times on the SAK's is the little toothpick. When I go in the bush the Leatherman, SAK Camper and my RAT (EESE) RC-4 are always with me.

  • Yeah the pliers make it for me, I stay away from the swiss army type knives for that reason. Thanks,

    - Adam

  • i carry both a multi-tool and a knife.a gerber FLIK or a leatherman squirt P4.for my knife, i carry the spyderco tenacious or crkt crawford/kasper.

i do prefer carrying a fixed blade.but there are some legal issues about fixed knife carry here in california.

  • A fixed blade can be a lot more economical as well, you're going to pay money for a folder vs. a comparable fixed. Thanks

    - Adam

  • The only fixed blade issue in kalifornia is that it has to be exposed, unless it's under four inches in blade length.

  • That's not too bad, about average with other states.

    - Adam

  • Adam, the knife laws here in Australia are very strict, however I do carry a small SAK, to work in the city and if I am heading out bush or out and about I usually carry a SOG Power lock multitool. When I go camping hunting etc I use a fixed blade, hope this helps keep up the good work.

    Cheers

  • Thanks, I was crushed to find out the knife laws in Australia were so strict, and here I was growing up thinking people over in Australia all got to carry giant bowie knives! Lol. I'm sorry, just joking. Have the laws in reference to knife carry been strict for a while, or is it just something that has changed in the last few years? Thanks for your comment, and hope to hear from you soon,

    - Adam

  • i carry a folding blade like a sog flash 1 or a sog aegis and a kershaw blur and then adding to that i carry a small leatherman p4..

  • Kershaw Blur is a great knife!

    - Adam

  • i carry a charge tti and usually one clip on folder. There are situations where the knife (as a utility tool) just doesn't do the job. so i carry both. But that is just me.

  • For daily out and about I carry a Leatherman Juice S2. I'm a slob and wear sweat pants a lot and it doesn't take much weight to drag down sweat pants. If I am in a less urban environment I will add my folder with a 3 in. blade. I do not carry a knife with defensive intentions.

  • Part 2: I've been seriously considering carrying a small fixed blade, like the Becker Neck knife, on my belt instead of the folder. I've been in serious accidents before and I know that even simple movements, like pulling your folder out of your pocket and opening it, can be difficult. Unfortunately I know carrying a belt knife in public is going to get me an awful lot of unwarranted attention.

  • Well it depends on were you live. Some states as long as it is exposed and not concealed your alright.

    - Adam

  • @Equip2Endure usually this is simply a interpreted from the law, as here in Minnesota, it might appear that you are concealing it strictly for the purpose of causing harm. For instance, if it's just a really big pocket knife you normally carry and use for every-day tasks, you're likely just fine with it. I highly reccommend visiting a legitimate legal site for your city and state to become familiar with what the law actually states vs. what the common thought is.

  • (part 1) I carry a leathermen squirt for everyday tasks that might arise. I just don't seem to ever have an unexpected need for a larger multitool. I also carry a folding knife. I tell myself its for emergencies but to be honest I've been carrying pocketknives for so long I think I would just feel naked without one with me.

  • My EDC is a SAK Recruit. I have carried a pocket knife for almost 40 years and a pocket knife or lock blade has always served me. If I am going in the woods I'll carry a SAK Trekker. I have a couple of multi-tools but they always seem to stay home. One reason is they are rather heavy. Other knives I have carried/carry are other SAK's, Buck 110, Ka-Bar Dozier spear point, Buck Ranger, Stockman style pocket knives, and a Barlow (1st knife).

  • Yeah, the weight is what kills me about the multi-tool. My leatherman charge has a clip to carry in your pocket, but it just feels too bulky. It's in the bag most of the time.

    - Adam

  • Sometimes in the woods I will carry a pair of Craftsman ignition pliers. They look like small channel locks and weigh less than an once. I keep them with my cook stuff to use as a pot holder. Pocket knife and pliers still weigh less than multi-tools. I grew up b4 mulit-tools were invented so I guess I never developed a need for them.

  • @Equip2Endure I tried the clip too, and found that it just made the whole pocket inaccessable (I usually carry things in my pockets). But if you use it on a quite regular basis, it's easily justifiable to carry it. I don't like a lot of things on my belt as some do (A.K.A. Batbelt syndrome), but I can justify this with as much as it's employed, and one can become used to habitual carry.

  • Part II...druing the winter months i am generally wearing something more cunducive to carrying a multi-tool. If you are ready and willing to carry a multitool for EDC then do it. You will have more funtionality with it. If you are like me I carry just my blade. It works well for most situations and I am somewhat profecient with fighting with it (i would rather not) I do not present it in such a way in public that people are threatened. I use the slow and easy method when using it on the outs.

  • Oh ya.....If im out hiking I have a leatherman in my bag and I have a gerber tool in my truck. So either way I always have one near by.

  • (part I) First off check your local Laws. When Im wandering around town i generally carry my Cold Steel Recon. Its not the best knife, but i like it. when im at work i have this knife as well as my leatherman. My leatherman sits on my duty belt and my recon is opposit of my weapon. You also have to factor in the climate. During the summer where i live i dont like to lug around heavy objects. My recon fits nicely in my running shorts waistband so i also have a concealment factor there (part I)

  • I carry a Leatherman Surge. The Wave would probably be a little more practical considering the size as many people would consider the Surge to heavy to carry all the time. In my experience a multi-tool is must more versatile and honestly 80% of the time when I am using it, it's not for the blade. I have need of the screwdriver and scissors much more frequently in an urban environment. When backpacking I also carry a fixed blade and sometime a collapsible buck saw (depending on the trip).

  • That's a good point about no using the blade as much as other stuff.
