In ancient Rwanda and Burundi the two functions of cultivating and cattle herding was respectively done by hutus and tutsis; with years and centuries they became cultures and people started to identify themselves as hutus or tutsis but with modernism it became blurred hutus could own cattle, tutsis were cultivators. Under the monarchy, the warriors were usually tutsis hence this warrior dance associated with tutsis but hutus perfectly dance it as well,
What a beautiful Rwandan wedding dance. Does it really matter if they are Bahutu, Batutsi, or Batwa? Whilst Rwanda wasn't problem free prior to colonialism it was the Belgium's who started embedding racial division and then, wickedly, stirred up ethnic hatred to cling onto power. This lit the long and bloody fuse that led through 2 corrupt leaderships and several massacres that lead to the 1994 Genocide. So I guess attempting to label a dance as Tutsi isn't a good move.
Oh, and "yego2": And all you have to do is look at their costumes, and the dance itself. Classic Tutsi!! As I said - if you had a semblance of knowledge, you would know this, my charming little Belgian Waffle! But, you are allowing me to make a fool of you. As I said - keep it up. It's always fun making a fool of a fool!!! Now, piss off, you tiresome bore!
what part of the costumes or dance is Tutsi? all I see is Rwandan intore dance costumes, and traditional Rwandan women's dresses. None of this is Tutsi. But I guess you're too busy blurting out insults to learn anything, so if it makes your day, go ahead and call it tutsi or dinka or zulu. Don't hold back, have a ball.
"Yego2": And just in case your lack of gray matter makes it difficult for you to get my very basic and rational point: as these were clearly Tutsi men and women performing this lovely dance, logic would dictate that, uh, let's see .... oh yes, this is a Tutsi dance - NOT Hutu, Zulu, Maasai, Dinka, Baka - you get the point. In the future, watch the tone in YOUR comments lest you get a "hostile" reply.
Okay, genius boy: YOU tell ME what they are if not Tutsi?! These are clearly Tutsi to anyone with a brain, eyes, ears - and just a semblance of intelligence, knowledge and education! Just do a little research, genius, before you open your big mouth, showing your utter ignorance to the world. What a fool you are, with your head so far up your ass you wouldn't know an elephant from an ant. You're just showing your ignorance with every moronic comment you make. But keep going; it's funny.
Good African traditional dance. It is good 4 the youth 2 socialize and character building. It competes with western gymnastics as an all-round body exercise. Most importand it seems to be fun for the participants. Vive Ruanda, vive Africa!
I first saw Tutsi Dance in the 1952 movie "King Solomon's Mines," and couldn't even get my mind around how haunting, beautiful and graceful it is. Look at those movements! Thanks so much for this! And yes - those guys are gorgeous!!
"Yego2": Well, thank you for enlightening me! OBVIOUSLY you're much more knowledgeable than I, and we're not ALL such scholars on traditional African music. Having said that, your "verbal" tone seemed a tad nasty and out of line! But, merci beaucoup!!!
"yego2": And.... one more thing! As the tribe I saw in "King Solomon's Mines" was called "THE WATUSI", (i.e., the Tutsi), and SINCE they were performing their traditional "Watusi/Tutsi" dance, I think one could reasonably call their dance a "Watusi/Tutsi" dance. Or, do you think one, unfamiliar with the intricacies of African culture, would be unreasonable to generally label this as a "WATUSI/TUTSI" dance??? Don't strain your brain pal.
well, in King Solomon Mines, the entire Rwandan country was called "the land of the Watusi". It was a very unrealistic depiction of the real rwanda. And since I'm not familiar with the intricacies of European culture, should I generally label red wine "french" wine?
"Yego2": Geeeez dude: Why so OBNOXIOUS!!!!! It was YOUR surly, nasty tone that started this whole pleasant little chat in the first place. And your "red wine" analogy is a total non sequiter. In spite of my suggestion that you not "strain your brain", you attempted to do so, with laughable results. Such a same: such a lovely video, and such a stupid Belgian moron ruining my day! But, c'est la vie! Piss off pal!

On the subject of costume, this costume is rwandan no such thing as hutu costume or tutsi costume.

I think yego2 has tried to explain the inaccuracy of ethnic labeling so I hope I'm not a "Belgium waffle" too.
