@ramathorn2112 It shows that you don't know anything about croc captivity. That teasing is for a couple of very good reasons.

1. They must still work for the food as if they caught it themselves.

2. They gain extra exercise by trying to grab the meat.

3. It can also be used to observe the health and responsiveness of the animal.

That teasing is not to piss the animal off, it's for its benefit.

I was just making a comment based on what looked like teasing of the animal. Seems to me the same thing can be acheived by putting live animals in the pen for the crocs to catch and eat. That would cover your 3 reasons.

As to putting live animals in the pens for them to eat, I should make you aware of laws that prohibit the inhumane slaughter of animals. They are not permitted the use of live prey for these animals for such a reason and live prey also carries risk to the animal itself.

It's better this way.

crocodilians are quick learners and they are greatly adapt at recognizing and remembering patterns. these keepers need to be reminded that crocs are highly efficient at getting what they want-these guys are completely at the croc's mercy while in their enclosure. perhaps it would be prudent to release these magnificent crocodiles in the wild (if this is Australia, they are protected) so that they may be enjoyed at a distance.

Look where Kununurra is, thats where I live. The abos here won't go near crocs and the croc farms won't let you handle any salty over 1m. They CANNOT be tamed. Your thinking of a different species. Freshies can be but not a salty. I'm sure your nile crocs can be but a saltwater croc cannot be handled. I've seen farm raised 20cm ones go nuts when people touch them.

Yeah I agree, but the market is international it's not like you can find croc skin products easy in Australia. The skins are sort after in mainly Japan and the US for hand bags and boots. Eliminate the demand and it wouldn't happen. Problem is trying to make them vegan will never, ever, ever be appropriate. It's like trying to feed a steak to cattle. Doesn't make sense.

Anyways Saltwater Crocodiles are conditioned carnivores, they feed on Barramundi, small roos and wallabies etc. A vegan diet on a apex carnivorous predator is just cruel, it's body couldn't handle it. Hmm does a croc want lettuce or steak...?

I believe the workers use the rake to stroke the crocs' heads for a calming effect and stick the wooden end of the rake inside the crocs' mouths to push against their teeth and get an idea of their dental health.

Scraping these pores with a peace of rake, might be a damaging health problem for this poor animal.
