What next model? There is no next model, the main use of the aircraft is for the radar dome, the updates are made in the electronics not in the fuselage, you can have a Bison performing the same task as the Nato AWACS, what matters the most is the range and coordination of the readings from that dome.

@Heludin Dude regardless of the rotodome and electronics and stuff. You can only use the rotodome if the damn plane can get off the ground. Like if you have a 50 yr old airframe that keeps breaking new parts are hard to come by ya know?

Nope. The one crashed in 2006 was a KJ-200 "Balance Beam" AEW&C based on Shanxi Y-8 airframe.
