this car made me nauseous when carving twisty mountain roads. something about its drivetrain, steering, chassis dynamics. Never experienced that in any other car.
I have a Yaris hatch and I love the damn thing. Why they aren't more popular is beyond me. The fuel economy versus price ratio makes it more economical than a Prius given what I paid for it.
The yaris my not be the greatest car in the world but it's great on gas and is projected to make it beyond 200,000 miles with little to no maintenance.
this seems harsh criticism but true, i own a 2008 toyota yaris, i love it, driving it is nice, altho i hate the cup holders and no where to put your stuff, and lacking some gadgets, other than that i love it, i will probably resale it after i finish school
@ToyotaforCorolla Well, compare it to a Honda Fit then. Nothing beats a Honda Fit for value and gas mileage. Honda Fit even beat the Prius for fuel economy!
No, the Fit doesn't. Official ratings for the Fit is 31mpg combined, the Prius gets 50. Get your facts straight. Nonetheless, the Fit is still good compared to Yaris.
@AppleMacBookAir2 Hmm, I drive my Fit very lightly and slowly, to maximize fuel efficiency. Costs me $30 per tank (300 miles per tank) so I'm not complaining.
@talldude123 I gotta agree with the Honda Fit/Jazz but it's pricier than the Yaris... but the Aveo??? no man.... Chevy Aveo/Daewoo shit. sorry man i just have to put it that way... cheers!
@truknayr23 See I'm the opposite. I rode in a friend's Chevrolet Aveo, base model, and it wasn't as bad as people say. He was getting great mileage, the ride was smooth, and it had a decent amount of power for the city. I've rode in the Yaris, it looks and feels cheap inside. I can't say about the power or not though.
@talldude123 aaahh... i see... but i did not mean any of those about the aveo... what we most complain about based on experience is the... 1.dependability and durability, which is the most important thing of all in a car. 2.service and maintenace is quite a bother. i had friends who got the aveo and the chevvy spark because they were better looking both outside and inside compared to their respective rivals and they discovered that the Daewoo quality is very noticeable. Cheers!
i'm going to take a yaris soon..it look boring and not good as american car but as many people said ,reliable....i come to US for half of year and really impressed with american car,but not reliable....now i understand why chrysler,gm,chev is down....and toyota become number 1.when 'm rich , i will think a about american car cause it will cost you great damn $ to fix .....
I just bought a yaris.... I always wanted a Toyota cuz my family lives by them that they are dependable good cars that last you a life time. The only one I could afford out of the toyota family was the Yaris even though I really wanted a Corolla, and I was wondering did I get a good car that will last me a long time as well as did I make a good investment?
i have this exact same car (only it's charcoal) and i must admit at first i didn't like it that much. I still dont like it that much, but it is a good car, it does what it's supposed to do and it doesn't even eat petrol (exaggeration). For the price my parents paid for it it's not worth it but it's a good lil car.
i just bought one, i know toyota have had the recalls and shit but to me i see it as a advantage. toyota has a fix PLUS they are putting down GREAT offers... so i bought one for so cheap! love my new yaris
unintended acceleration kills, protect our childern and know the facts about toyotas unintended acceleration and what too do if your toyota races out of control, god bless the usa
I own a 2010 sedan and the only thing I actually agree with them on is the cup holders being too short. they are very well placed, but certainly can't hold a cup securely. the car scoots just fine with the small engine, and the handling is actually the best I tested. the feature I love MOST OF ALL though, is the VSC can be turned completely off!!!
lol coolerdude44 i dont understand you, you hate toyota but you keep commenting on this page lmao and whats not to like about them they are reliable more than your favorite american brands a lot of cars that do stand out like sporty cars have Mazda and blah blah are usually the 1z everyone has the a lot of problems with so really at the end of the day at least you don't have to worry as much as having a ford and getting stuck on the road
"...0-60 in 10.5 seconds. Again, average for a subcompact sedan" Buuuutttt. it's an automatic!!! the automatic Yaris' have very slow off-the-line acceleration...
when was the last time toyota made a truly good car? i mean when was the last time toyota made a standout car that was actually acceptable or exceptional to drive? not since the celica... COME ON TOYOTA, YOU'RE THE FUCKING BIGGEST CAR MAKER IN THE WORLD, BUILD CARS WE ACTUALLY WANT!
i got no problem with my yaris..stop complaining ok?..you can buy other car makes if you want to..or you can build your own car, one that meets your expectations..
that's my point. their cars are boring. they don't do anything wrong, and owners have no technical problems, but i can't think of one (besides the land cruiser) that really shines out from the crowd, can you?
why do you assume i can't afford a toyota? and explain to me which toyota does something that none of the other cars in it's class does. which one handles the best, is cheapest, most powerful, etc. every single one of their cars are just average, and nothing more.
in fact, i'm on vacation now in LA and i'm renting a highlander. both remotes are broken for it, there's a severe wind leak, an air vent fell out, and the dome light doesn't work. it also sounds like it's on 5 cylinders.
and, it only has 20,000 miles. i'm sorry, but this means that toyotas (or at least toyotas designed by americans, like the highlander) aren't built with anymore quality than anyone else either if after 20,000 miles of shuffling kids and their luggage around it has all those problems.
so please explain to me why toyota's are appealing, because i just don't get it.
roughbondage, what do you like about your Yaris. I also heard that the 2007 Yaris doesn't go beyond 38 or 40 on the expressway, have you found that to be true???

(Don't forget that scion is Toyota's subdivision company, so it's reliability is the same as Toyota's)
I recently got a Yaris too, and I agree, it's a great small car, and I don't find anything wrong with it, either. I got the stripped down 4-door hatchback version, with no power anything, for just under $14,000. I don't see the point of getting this car with the power package and paying $17,000 for it, as shown in this video. That messes up the price advantage. Because the car is so small, it's not hard to operate the crank windows, even when you're driving.
i love my yaris!!! i always brag about the fuel economy. i know its not the fastest car in the world but when it comes to road trips i love it. i hope to someday do something cool to my car but until then ill leave it like it is.
why would some1 buy a top of the line yaris...or top of the line corolla with leather seats and moon roof ....I"m not sure about moon roof but I'm sure I've seen leather corollas......
ppl shouldnt be complaining about the yaris i mean its a cheap car wut can u expect ppl shouldnt be complining about this car be cuz its so cheap, u cant just have leather seats and all that for 17 grand any way if u want more power in the yaris put a turbo in it the hourse power will go up to 180 and since the car is so light it would fly lik a rocket i love my yaris !
If imitation is a sincerest form of flattery, the current Volkswagen Jetta was actually whether intentionally or not can almost pass as the 2003-2007 Toyota Corolla in terms of strong design similarities and both belong to the competing crowded compact class and very much identical in size. Now, Toyota is returning the favor, they are now trying to have a similar rendition of the current Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit. That rendition is the 2007 to current Toyota Yaris in both 3 & 5 door hatchback.
The only complaint these people had was about the bloody cup holders....It is quiet and fun to drive and using my Scanguage I have determined that I get 50+MPG....This car is highly under rated....cheers
You dont like the cup holders are you crazy. They are placed infrom of vents keeps my drinks cool and the center vents keep me cool. and honestly who make a big enough cup holder these days
why would you rather have a Vitz? because it's JDM?? want to know something? anything JDM got played out. Drifting is gay too. and Silvia's are gay. wanna know why? because all the posers copied. and all the posers have JDM cars now. the only thing left that is still cool about JDM is my screen name. I have a Toyota Yaris, and I am keeping the stock emblems. I'm not going to put any Vitz emblems on it because all the homo's put Vitz emblems on their Yaris. don't be a poser. do your own thing.
not being a poser.I live in japan. The vitz is turbo in japan.I also hate rebadging of cars. The us does it too much.Just keep the same name dammit.Example 240sx is 180sx in jap n acura is HONDA all acuras.Infinity is nissan.Well to each is own
forgot i was on my wife's youtube account. But if u want to keep ur badge thats u.Just keep your car clean man.Comment bout silvias lol got rid of my R33 for a sil80 LOL
My Yaris gets 45 mpg! After 27k miles this is what it has averaged, keeping track of every drop of gas and every mile. Of course they don't mention that in the review of an economy car, they talk about performance handling instead.
..anyway I love my Yaris. Interior layout is ingenious, utilisation of space is great, plenty of power and space. Road holding is confident and I think the ride is disciplined and smooth. Looks great too. Steering could be more involving but there is far worse out there!
The knobs controlling the heater / air conditioning / environmental system seem to be very cheaply made. It's not big deal, but they feel flimsy.
The Toyota Yaris warranty is absolutely miserable! 3 years or 30,000 miles is still a brand-new car and it sucks that they don't offer the 100,000 mile warranty that is becoming more popular these days. They seem to be banking entirely on the fact that the company has developed a false-positive reputation for reliability.
The Toyota was never good at designing their cars to look timeless....come this car looks like a giant egg....5 years from you can tell this car was from 2007...
If Toyota would just redesign the front end of both the hatchback and sedan as well as the dashboard design and put the gauges where they should be, in front of the driver, I might actually like this car enough to want one. But something that looks like an alien fish in my rearview mirror with a cheap and ugly looking dashboard is not appealing to me. I would much rather have a Honda Fit. At least it looks sporty and fun and the interior looks a millions times better in quality.
I wonder if my huge steroid body would fit in this lil car!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This car is only good for girly men!! STEROIDS HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE and now i cant fit in puny cars!!!
Modest too. Coming from someone that has actually sat in it I would say by looking at you yes you would fit in there, my 6 foot well built brother fits in my Yaris fine, just as well if not better than so some larger cars I have driven. Steriods can also cause severe mood swings and aggression problems too can't they?
Steriod guy this car is not small, just because it doesn't have a long boot attached to the cabin like a sedan doesn't mean its passenger space is limited. Far from it. Don't knock small car owners and their masculinity. They used INTELLIGENCE in their decision such as runnings costs, not ego and perceived masculinity. Chivalrous gentlemen don't need a big car. As the saying goes, the biggest mouths have the smallest minds
yaris is very good on gas mileage. around 29 mpg city and around 35 mpg hw. I like it cuz of that, but i got my boys in the shop to fix up the interior by putting power windows and locks, and making the cup holders much better, for FREE, cuz they my family haha
I just bought a Yaris, never got anything like 47mpg, but after driving from chicago to NY, I got a consistent 37mpg.
I liked the handling, steering was pretty responsive, acceleration definitely needed creative manual shifting for necessary pickup, top speed was just fine at 95mph.
Though a small car on the outside, the interior has more driver/passenger room than most regular compacts.Biggest complaints - lousy dashboard layout and no power anything.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It makes me sick that we are going to be forced to drive these little ugly insults of real cars in the future++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I gladly sold my fully loaded Lexus ES330 positively beautiful because sight unseen I wanted a Fun car and ordered the Yaris Sport Hatchback with all options nearing 19,000 without tax and license added. Do what makes you happy! Life is shorter than we think!
It all depends on how much you want to pay. If you want a bigger, heavier and faster car, then get used to signing over your paycheque to the gas station! You don't need much more than this for most daily commutes and it beats taking the bus!
Yes but let's see how many miles per gallon its numerous competitors can offer. The diesel Yaris (not available in the US only Japan) gets over 60 mpg in a car that is under $15000. Too cool!
This is going to be my future car. I have an elantra gt. I just dont understand all the bashing of these kind of cars here in the USA.
I guess they dont mind the petrol(gas) payments being higher than their car payments. I payed 4dollars for regular today in tampa.Just wait till hurricane season starts and it hits 5dollars a gallon in USA.
I wouldn't mind a Yaris if it was more like a mini Corolla. The rear styling looks cool, but the front is just goofy looking. The same goes for the interior. Its just haphazard.
There should also be a performance optional. The Corolla XRS has the Camry's 2.4L, why can't there be a Yaris XRS with the Corolla's 1.8L? With the Yaris' nimble weight, 132 HP would go a long way, plus it wouldn't sacrafice fuel efficiency considering the much heavier 2800 lbs Corolla gets 27/35 MPG.
I know how to pay just .06 per gallon of gas -- but you must search for that video in my stash _ ".06 PER GALLON" and it should come up # 1 - Bull sh*t you say -- OK I know I can -- and you just lost out you fool
these people are stupid, yaris if its a stick its fast considering the size of the engin, its awesome on gas and looks great too and is cheap. i had it up to 180kmph on the highway andwas smooth.
This "review" bares no relationship to reality. I've got a Yaris II zinc 1.3 and its superb. also $17k = about £8.5k, that ain't a lot for a fully loaded car so stop complaining.
im sorry but that car is REALLY ugly

I don't see the point of getting this car with the power package and paying $17,000 for it, as shown in this video. That messes up the price advantage. Because the car is so small, it's not hard to operate the crank windows, even when you're driving.

I own an 08 Yaris Sedan and it is a great car.

Dkslong 3 years ago
why would you rather have a Vitz? because it's JDM?? want to know something? anything JDM got played out. Drifting is gay too. and Silvia's are gay. wanna know why? because all the posers copied. and all the posers have JDM cars now. the only thing left that is still cool about JDM is my screen name. I have a Toyota Yaris, and I am keeping the stock emblems. I'm not going to put any Vitz emblems on it because all the homo's put Vitz emblems on their Yaris. don't be a poser. do your own thing.
jdmikeg4 3 years ago
not being a poser.I live in japan. The vitz is turbo in japan.I also hate rebadging of cars. The us does it too much.Just keep the same name dammit.Example 240sx is 180sx in jap n acura is HONDA all acuras.Infinity is nissan.Well to each is own

My Yaris gets 45 mpg! After 27k miles this is what it has averaged, keeping track of every drop of gas and every mile. Of course they don't mention that in the review of an economy car, they talk about performance handling instead.
alexkram 3 years ago
Because a Mini Cooper can also get 45 mpg. But, unlike the poorly built Yaris, it's performance and handling are excellent.

..anyway I love my Yaris. Interior layout is ingenious, utilisation of space is great, plenty of power and space. Road holding is confident and I think the ride is disciplined and smooth. Looks great too. Steering could be more involving but there is far worse out there!
saxmologist 3 years ago
The knobs controlling the heater / air conditioning / environmental system seem to be very cheaply made. It's not big deal, but they feel flimsy.
The Toyota Yaris warranty is absolutely miserable! 3 years or 30,000 miles is still a brand-new car and it sucks that they don't offer the 100,000 mile warranty that is becoming more popular these days. They seem to be banking entirely on the fact that the company has developed a false-positive reputation for reliability.
OntarioJack 3 years ago
The Toyota was never good at designing their cars to look timeless....come this car looks like a giant egg....5 years from you can tell this car was from 2007...

i gree the japannese really are not good at looks, the ones that llok good ware ussualy copies of european cars but hteya have quality.
BIHVR6GTI 3 years ago
If Toyota would just redesign the front end of both the hatchback and sedan as well as the dashboard design and put the gauges where they should be, in front of the driver, I might actually like this car enough to want one. But something that looks like an alien fish in my rearview mirror with a cheap and ugly looking dashboard is not appealing to me. I would much rather have a Honda Fit. At least it looks sporty and fun and the interior looks a millions times better in quality.

I wonder if my huge steroid body would fit in this lil car!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This car is only good for girly men!! STEROIDS HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE and now i cant fit in puny cars!!!
steroidssavedmylife 3 years ago
Modest too. Coming from someone that has actually sat in it I would say by looking at you yes you would fit in there, my 6 foot well built brother fits in my Yaris fine, just as well if not better than so some larger cars I have driven. Steriods can also cause severe mood swings and aggression problems too can't they?
saxmologist 3 years ago
Steriod guy this car is not small, just because it doesn't have a long boot attached to the cabin like a sedan doesn't mean its passenger space is limited. Far from it. Don't knock small car owners and their masculinity. They used INTELLIGENCE in their decision such as runnings costs, not ego and perceived masculinity. Chivalrous gentlemen don't need a big car. As the saying goes, the biggest mouths have the smallest minds

the aveo sucks, you cant even compare it to this car. the yaris beats the aveo in every possible way.
Mr1oompa1 3 years ago 3
I just bought a Yaris, never got anything like 47mpg, but after driving from chicago to NY, I got a consistent 37mpg.
I liked the handling, steering was pretty responsive, acceleration definitely needed creative manual shifting for necessary pickup, top speed was just fine at 95mph.
Though a small car on the outside, the interior has more driver/passenger room than most regular compacts.Biggest complaints - lousy dashboard layout and no power anything.
I am looking for after market upgrades.

It all depends on how much you want to pay. If you want a bigger, heavier and faster car, then get used to signing over your paycheque to the gas station! You don't need much more than this for most daily commutes and it beats taking the bus!

sayfaylo 3 years ago
Yes but let's see how many miles per gallon its numerous competitors can offer. The diesel Yaris (not available in the US only Japan) gets over 60 mpg in a car that is under $15000. Too cool!
evilstalkerhorne 3 years ago 2
This is going to be my future car. I have an elantra gt. I just dont understand all the bashing of these kind of cars here in the USA.
I guess they dont mind the petrol(gas) payments being higher than their car payments. I payed 4dollars for regular today in tampa.Just wait till hurricane season starts and it hits 5dollars a gallon in USA.
Tampa0123456789 3 years ago
17k for a yaris? screw that and get the Corolla S. A friend of mine got his for 18k and the corolla S looks far better than the yaris
mchamp3802 3 years ago
I wouldn't mind a Yaris if it was more like a mini Corolla. The rear styling looks cool, but the front is just goofy looking. The same goes for the interior. Its just haphazard.
There should also be a performance optional. The Corolla XRS has the Camry's 2.4L, why can't there be a Yaris XRS with the Corolla's 1.8L? With the Yaris' nimble weight, 132 HP would go a long way, plus it wouldn't sacrafice fuel efficiency considering the much heavier 2800 lbs Corolla gets 27/35 MPG.

This "review" bares no relationship to reality. I've got a Yaris II zinc 1.3 and its superb. also $17k = about £8.5k, that ain't a lot for a fully loaded car so stop complaining.
