In one of the interview videos, Doug shows the beginning of Best Years and third note of the intro, he goes to the high E string. EdUb-w4xGuE at the 3:50 mark. I think he kind of messed up there though.

well is only a sound test with that amp. doug is amazing!!!!!

Yeah, he really gets a thick/smooth sound out of that first string if he really plays there all the time for Best Years. On that third note, I have to slide into the 17th fret of the D string to get a sound like that.
