  • LOL a sleeper Schwinn!

  • I've got a 1960/1961 SnowBird snowblower with a Briggs engine which has an oil bath air cleaner as well. Messy as hell to clean! lol

  • @SeberHusky You honestly don't need an air filter on a snow blower. My Deere hasn't had one since new in 1978 and it runs like a top. Usually the air in the winter is pretty clean, and snow can get packed into filters and choke the engine.

  • @4gasem

Well evidently you do, otherwise they would not have put it on the snowblower to begin with. And this snowblower has special steel covers over everything to protect the engine from snow. The fuel tank and carb are safe under a hinged cover. Along with the spark plug and chute chain, etc...

  • @SeberHusky If it works and you're happy with the mess, then have at it...

  • @4gasem

I am happy with it, as soon as I can get it fixed! Just search on YouTube "seberhusky snowbird", it will be the top two results.

  • so basicly if i put a 20" wheel hub on my 26" wheel for my schwinn it will be faster?

  • i mow with a reel mower....

  • Nice video and good commentary. I'm an old iron collector too and rust is my favorite color! Enjoyed it!

  • Hi RestoDan....I really enjoy watching your videos and like you I hate alot of the newer electronic crap they make now that don't run worth beans. I've always lived by "If it ain't broke, don't fix it " attitude. I like your old fashion common sense and humor as well. Keep up the good work Dan, and keep us posted with your videos.....cheers! =)

  • Thanks for posting this video. My grandfather had an Eclipse lawnmower exactly like this one , same engine color except it was a rope start. Bring back memories staying at my grandparents during the summer! Those engines run a lot better than the newer Briggs built today.

  • You want to know when they stopped using oil bath air cleaners on lawnmower engines like this? It was in the summer of 1958, when they retired the 6B-HS, 6B-H and 8B-H and replaced them with the 60500/61500, 60700/61700 and 80700/81700 respectively.

  • Im guessing that engine came off of a pump of some sort, either water or fuel. I think that because it has that covered spark plug to prevent it from either getting wet with water, or start a fire with fuel.

  • wow it looks awesome rusty

  • Every lawn mower I am buying will be no newer than 1982.

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X I have a 1969 toro I am selling. Its rwd!

  • My mom has that same exact bike i think just not quite so rusty lol...and she loves it too!

  • I love the lawn mower Dan. And I agree with you about the computer crap. Computers don't belong in cars. They sure don't make cars like they us to. Keep up the great work Dan, I look forward to watching your videos

  • I used to just love ripping past people on there new treks on my 1952 ccm

  • that mower is similar to my 1960 mower. mine has no markings of who made the mower, but the engine is a briggs 6BHS 2.5hp just like your mower's engine. mine burns oil pretty good and has a very slightly bent shaft but runs and mows well. your other engine looks like an N series briggs and i have seen them set up to run portable compressors, small generators and pumps. they quit using oil bath air cleaners in the 60's i think.

  • Too cool!

    The bike awesome! neat trick!!

Thanks for the videos Dan! keep em coming

  • Yea --on those push mowers you had to push that metal tab over on the sparkplug to stop the the motor .And i was always afrade that i would get electricuted .. I pushed those kind of mowers for many years.. Good job DAN...

  • Its very easy to know when Briggs&Stratton lawnmower engine is manufactured

just by checking two first digits of serial number.

  • Too Cool!! My dad's an old lawnmower guy. Hasn't had an oldie for years, but when I was a kid he used to have the type where the pull rope was separate and you had to wrap it around the crank to start it.

  • looks like a motor off a genset

  • I love than old mower..sell it to me...:)

  • I Like the Green briggs and Stratton Motor, i saw something like that on an mobile air raid siren.

  • That's cool! Would be neat to totally restore it.

  • Simple is always better...old stuff was sure built to last.Stuff now breaks or wears out too easily.

  • Oil bath air filter, thats sweet.... works way better than any other filter.

  • "also its a rusty piece of crap"

I lost it when you said that

  • That military engine looks like a compressor motor.Good ol wrap and pray start system.

  • could be a generator. that tank atop it could hold fuel so the generator can burn to make electricity.

  • That's some very cool stuff! I like old engines of any kind, and bicycles too, i live out in the countryside but i went to school in town so had a lot of friends there and before i had a driving licence i used to do a lot of bike riding to get into town to meet friends and go to whatver i was goin to. I used to go off on trips to camp in various places also, so that's given me a love of bicycles, have ahd quite a few which i put together from assorted old bits myself.

  • i remember them 2 speed ,those were a bit tricky to rebuild ,but a great gear setup, dosent waste unnessasery space

  • the motor might have been off of a generator

  • nice bike

  • My old 65 ford truck had a oil bath air filter

  • sweet toys dude!! gotta love them old reliables

  • Love the work on the bike dan! Nice job. I have the same lawnmower that my grandfather bought new in 1976. I inherited it after his death, its 2 stroke, I have done little work to it just some minor repairs, it runs like a dream, starts every time and cuts the grass like a lawnmower should. The old stuff like you say is so much better than the new, I just wouldnt touch anything new!! That old military stationary engine looks like the power source for an old generator? All the best to you mate

  • lucky!!

  • That's a lot of cool stuff..

  • I agree with you! I love old stuff, nothing built better than it was 30 40 50 years ago!

Man I'd love to have that bike! There impossible to find around here.

  • are you turning into a rat rod lover you know a lot about a lot

  • Love that Lawnmower.....

  • If you don't already know, you can find the year of your Briggs and Stratton engine by looking at the engine code, on that tag or stamped into the shroud there will be three sets of numbers, on the third set of numbers the first two digits will be the year it was made. This is true of every Briggs and Stratton engine ever made.

Eclipse is a faIrly well know mower company from years gone by, they made a lot of power reel mowers, I don't think I've ever seen an Ecliipse rotary mower before.

  • nice things Dan.

  • water pump for them old water buffalo's.(water tank on a small trailer)

  • restore it make it new again it would be worth a bundle

  • nice man i just found some old Schwinn bikes and an old 40s British bike alot of fun and alot of looks.

  • I have a Schwinn 2 speed in my shed its just like new I received it for my birthday back around 1963. The military brigs motor is from a small generator.

  • Great bike man I see what you mean now I kinda want one myself lol I just sold A1967 murray for 300.oo and im back to hunting, love the vid!

  • sweet find restodan
