I love and respect my parents the most I will learn more about hmong culture and hmong story. Some time l like to listen to my mom folktale story l hope some kid out there that did not respect their parents or any body can come through this and watch this sad mv.
thanks for sharing. Let pray for those still suffer.
Don't blame anyone ok it is not anyone fault it was our fate. Do not do revenge. Revenge is not the way who cares what happend in the past revenge is not the way in my heart i did say revenge was the only way as it took me years to only understand and mature myself that revenge will make another cause only. My fellas please revenge is not the way lets keep praying and trying our best to help our hmongs for now on only instead of fighting eachother and thinking violence and revenge is the way
We all Hmong should see this video. It should remind us where we came from and should not take the opportunities that are given to us for granted. It should inspire to work harder and get out of our comfortable to make a better future all of us so someday we can give back to those who can't get out.
so sad. most of the hmong in the U S have forgotten their background. in U S they have the easy life. when they wanna eat then run to the refridge. wanna go some where? take the car. look carefully what's behind yours. if u have no feeling about yours even u r hmong then suppose u call yourself hmong .
Sometimes it is the parents' fault... They don't provide any background on it or influence them enough when they're young. I grew up sort of in that way but luckily I am a person who LOVES to learn about history and now I am obsessed with researching about hmong history. It is kind of sad now though... especially when I have friends and people I know my age and younger who can't even speak or understand when I talk to them in hmong anymore... It's like I have to translate what I am saying
thiis is a GREAT video... you did a good job putting this all together.... this show alot of emotions and different sides and point of view.........its vey sad but its shows alot about us hmong cultrue ....some of us hmong amerians always say we have bad lives but when we look on the other side of the world.... we never put our selfs in there shoes before some of us arent happy for what we have...... but really we should be glad tobe in the United States ..... thanks alot for sharing =]
Dang, very sad video! we were watching this in our after school club, and when we heard taht man talking about, take care of dad etc, the asian people started to cry, so very touching! i loved it! thnx for finding all these infos and showing it to is hmong!! zoo heev li os!
I walk into a house with a wall of these pictures, of grandpas and uncles who I've never had the chance to meet. Once in a while I hear stories of who they were, and what happened during this war. Sometimes from grandparents who had witness their very death. In their stories, their tones and in their tears you enter a world you've never known. You realize what horrifying and hard time they went through.
I love it when the guy starts talking, its soo sad. i cant stop rewatching this O_o!!
Hmong gangs need to stop fighting with one another because 1) We have NOBODY else but ourselves 2) They make us hmong look bad as a people 3) they're losers. Honestly gangsters and wangsters need to stop being such bullies and come to their senses. We only have one another to love and if someday that is gone then we will have nobody else to turn to anymore.
@23GT35R lol I am actually a girl but yeah that is the problem with most gangs these days, regardless of race/culture... I mean what's the point with fighting with each other? Seriously, gangs need to stop fighting each other... Although in most cases, hmong gangs are caused because of "white" Americans who, when hmong people first came to america, made fun of and bullied little hmong boys who in the end made gangs? I dunno, I saw something like that on TV and it makes sense haha.
Ive just learned of your culture by readingTHE SPIRITCATCHES YOU AND YOU FALL;so sorry for your people to lose there lland and homes..war, so many were killed and I still ask why and for what.........what have we gained and now another viet nam war now more death. wish to hear of your american experience would make great tv documentary glad to have met you all through u-tube
That story is a great book. Thank you for your wonderful comment. Losing many of our relatives and scattered all over the world, it something that we didn't wish for, but fate has caused our separation. Thank you.
This video made me cried so much. I can ever imagine the deep pains my parents and people went through. Many were persecuted and killed during the perilous journey and crossing. This video made me realized how much I should always appreciate and cherish my parents. Without their strength and courage to leave everything they have in Laos, maybe, I would have been long dead. Wars after wars, our people have endured so much pains and sorrows. Sib hlub sib pab.
allout916 how did you get this picture? picture on 3:14, that two young men were related to my mom. The one on the left was my mom's younger brother and the one on the right was my mom's unlce's son. Both were KIA. Thank you for putting this picture in this video.
all the chinese were afraid of us, 6 dynasty groups teamed up to defeat us hmongs, one main reason why hmong ppl lost their land was because other hmongs were too greedy and turned on their own kind. Even still today, other hmongs are killing other hmongs, that is why we will never have a country...
i am amazed with ur detaild work with the video...im quite touched and it pains me 2 watch some scenes knowing that my grandparents, parents & our hmong ppl had 2 experience such trivial hardship. thx paul cha 4 makin such a wonderful video that illustrates our hmong history thoroughly...
think about it though.. it was the America that brought war.. some deal went wrong and to cover it up they went to war.. why you think it was a "SERECT WAR" Hmong people to the Amercans are pawns
Yeah this video still gets to me everytime i watch it, so sad. Americans need to help the hmongs still lefted in the jungle today...Our fathers died so yours could come home safely, please don't forget those still living in laos. Great video!!!
It's a good thing to know your history, so that you can appreciate it and also record it for future generations to learn this rich and colorful heritage.
These are all unforeseen benefits of the war that most people neglect to see.
Were it not for the way, many of us would have never had the opportunities, education, wealth, or knowledge to even be sitting here discussing this (or you wouldn't be here reading my comments right now).
The diaspora from Laos helped to create a hybridized and robust Hmong network, across many countries and many languages, but yet still uniquely Hmong. Many of us speak new languages of our host countries, but we still hold the Hmong identity.
In a way... the Secret War in Laos was the end of Hmong (Mong) hill tribe culture. Many of our cultural values and traditions were lost up in those bomb littered hills, where a few of us are still hiding to this day and fighting. This is a treasure that will only be told by the older generation in stories.
Yet in another way, it was destiny's way of ensuring that Hmong people are not lost to history and become players in the world.
This is a great video...thank you, maybe people in the world will know how much we have suffer throughout the years. Remember we are hmong, we have no country but eachother.
This is a very strong presentation on the human cost of war. I'm a US Army Officer currently serving in Iraq and seeing this video brought me a lot of tears...this video reminds me of my father who was in the War. He lost his father when he was still at the front fighting and never had time to see his father during burial. I know we as the younger generation owes everything to our parent's generation. Please let us give them the respect they deserve and earned.

Hey this is a very powerful emotional presentation. I'm currently serving in the US Army in Iraq and I miss my parents very much. Watching this brought about all the human factors in war and the looses that our grandparents and parents generation suffered. May we, the younger generation, love and respect our elders for who they are and what they have been through.
this specific documentary interested me after attending the UCD Hmong historical night...it brought an immense feeling hmong patriotism to me...i cried when i heard the man talking about his father..and about the kids...this is so beautiful. thank you! =)
this video is so sad! i cried my eyes out, when i heard the hmong guy talking in the background about his dad, and how he was going to leave his dad i think. = ( so sad. my dad started crying too, because he left his dad back in 1991, the same year my grandpa died (his dad). it's so sad.
Thanks for sharing Paul. You did a wonderful displaying the Hmong tragedy in such a short video for all to see. Hmoob lub kuamuag ntshuav ces tshe yuav ntws mus txog thaum twg li os. I was very moved by the man talking in the video. And so many Hmongs share the same tragic story. I would like to post up your video on my myspace for all to see if thats ok. Again, thanks for sharing.
I am not sure what Lao's government are doing to some Hmong ppl living in Laos but I've heard good things and bad things. My best friend is Hmong and I hope Laos government forgives and move on...The Hmong wanted thier own country and they took that one chance they had. That war is long over..many innocents had died..lets forget and forgive.. lets all live in peace.
your right on one thing, lets forgive your lao government but never forget the fallen hmong gurrilla... this is one thing i hate the most... writing back to a unEDUCATED person... maybe if you did some reserach you'll know how much it hurts me and the hmong people...my dad fought in the war when was only in his teen...thanks shaman he is alive... and for you..i don't know who you thinking you is but...don't disrespect some other race.. o wait maybe you will know when one day it happens to yours
There are few more sad about what happened to the Hmong in Laos than those Americans who fought with them. We can only pray for forgiveness and do our best to treat our fellow Hmong citizens here in the US the best we can. Stand proud. Be proud. Talk proud.
i'll alwayz stand tall and remeber that i'll alwayz be a hmong... So no mater wat all of us hmong people do, we should never give up. when ever we or u gonna fail somnthing, come look at this video, it'll inspired you to push yourself and wat we faught for.
yeah...vangpao you got fucked in the ass by the american C I A in lao and here in U S A you got fucked agian when are you gonna learn aint that dick is too big for your ass old fart now go fuck your own dick and let the youngster rise ass hole
The majorities of lao supported the Royal government during the war. But the communist Pathet Lao had the millitary support of communist (China, North Vietnam and Soviet) both with supply and troops. Whereas the Royal Lao had diplomatic support from US but no supply nor troops. There solution was the CIA "Secret Army" which mostly were hmong tribesmen. When the US pulled out we were left to fend against the whole communist world. The majority didn't support communist.
This was never a hmong vs lao conflict. There were hmongs on both the Royal Lao and communist Pathet Lao side. That is why there are hmong in the LPDR government too.
The hmong in the jungle are being persecuted because of their role in "The Secret War". The royal lao supporter were sent to "Re-education" camp where they were killed along with the royal family.
Sadly, new lao generation living abroad don't realize the reason they are here, they are refugees from the communist regime.
My dad is Hmong, and he came here with his mother and sibling when he was about 14 years old to Fresno California, and I have not seen him since I was 5 years old I'm just looking for relatives around here in California now that I've moved back.
I am lao, I am so disappointed the americans had broke their promise and just abandon the hmong people. Where was the other people in laos. If all people in lao were to unite and fight back the communist we may have win and become a stronger nation.
OK addicted first of all don't call us crackers were not edible and 2not all of us are bad and ignorant I don't care that I'm white it's just a color I only care about how they are to me. I don't give a damn what race you are or rich or really anything else It's simple you nice to me expect Kindness in return. I'm sick of being stereo typed I am who I am and nothing in this planet will make me change that.
Your wrong sobercolm. There are people who care a great ordeal like me about the hmongs. I was taught to hate I chose a different path I chose to care. And in return I gained some good friends that won't turn thier back on you. Like some of my kind I agree disgracful. Wish that I knew how to help them but being a good friend to them is about all I can do unless I win the lottery so I could transfer as many hmong as possible over here to get them out of that god forsaking hell.
And your saying is correct..."after the rain the sun will shine again".....and that starts with acknowledgement of the struggle and the deed that the HMONG have done for this country..the sacrifices and the sorrow that we have gone through..but it is people like you that bring out the sunshine in our our people...your willingness to understand and have compassion...THANKS!
heh you know . i watched all these hmong videos .. and i cannot write anything
we slovenians were once in yugoslavia and the communists killed a lot of the white guard who fought against them after the war . it was horrible .. but years later after the war respression slowly weakened
anyway good luck
P.S. we have a saying .. po dežju vedno posije sonce .. which translated means .. after the rain sun will shine again
it's ignorant to say that because white hmong are originally black hmong. i am a white hmong but my relatives in vietnam are all black hmong. there are lots of Hmong in Vietnam because Vietnam borders Yunnan where many Hmong live. Just because they live in Vietnam do not make them part of the Vietcong party.
STFU hoe, i can say what the fuck i want, IM HMOOB TOO, im tierd of caring about hmong people and only get taken advantage of. from this day on FUCK HMONG PEOPLE im gonna be best friends with other race like how every damn hmong people are too and act stuckup as hell to other fuckin hmong fuckers
HEY LAOS PEOPLE, if yall want to fuck hmong girls then go ahead because there all whores anyways. they think hmong guys are as low as shit so fell free to fuck these hmong whores when ever yall want. THE END
I wish there was a way to stop all this B.S. nonsence. People should learn to get along and put away this Damn racist bullshit. We have lost lives as well in the vietnam war. Laos I feel sorry for I am interested in the hmong people many of you's are very nice people sad to say more than my race White but I care not of skin color only what the human heart beholds. I know very little about you's other than what my friend Ka hinted but yes
Hey, i just watched your vid and it was great. i just recently loss my mother and it gives me great aspect on the struggle our parents went through to make our life better and to have a future to live for. And we shouldn't look at the mistakes that were made and dwell on them but to change for the good. Everywhere and anywhere there will always be a struggle but in the end it will be better. That's what make us stronger. We must not forget who we are.
30 years of perseverance and fighting for justice for the Hmong people. As a minority group, we have surpass many expectations and we are continuing to do so all over the world. I am honored to be Hmong and I hope people will learn more about the history of the Hmong. Educate yourself before you go on making hateful comments please.
First of all,if you want to make a point please think critically. Secondly, whether we are Hmong or not, we should keep an open mind to what others have to say. Take it as constructive criticism because other people have their own reasons for voicing a certain opinion. Thirdly, just remember that things aren't as easy and blatant as you think of them to be. Just don't try to judge the world with your limited knowledge.
I agree; it's the hatred towards eachother what makes the world a bad place. From both sides!!! It's racism, greed for power, unforgiveness. From all sides. If we want to stop this, hatred and feelings of superiority must stop. We are equal, we are all humans
There is enough ugliness in the world, people who like to spread hate should find a real challenge: Educate yourself on what you find alien and foreign.
I really liked your video. it made me cried. i'm so sorry that there are so many people out there who have no idea whom Hmong are and for those who think they know but can only criticize. keep up your work and keep promoting your videos. God bless us all :)
How can a person see all this human suffering and bravery in spite of all this hell, and not feel "empathy" and "love" for the people who endured such hardship. We need to do everything we can to help--raise awareness, change the laws, reform the CIA (who needs to do everything they can to change their karma--really really bad karma). If USA spent even half of the money wasted on the Iraq war--US could help all the refugees in the world!!JL
LOCC2o9, i4vn,synavaraj, saolaoainong, laolaodon, Why are you Lao bitches watching this video? Becasuse you can't stand the Hmong. We are more numorous than you here in America and more successful than you, In fact you all should go back to Laos. You're all commies here, go live in rice paddies.
zinfandel79, if this is stupid then why you care. Obviously it got to you and you couldn't take it, cause you're a Lao bastard. I'll make a video about your people killing your King and you will cry. Hmong are more successful than you so you bitch.
You know, I keep hearing that when europeans left their shores, it was then that the world they reached would be doomed with the viral diseases they brought, but yet with an even worse and longer lasting social diease and turmoil they would bring in their ways. No matter how much I would deny or acknowledge this notion, it is painfully, and unignorably self evident...in EVERY one of their destinations... even to this day.
I don't know WTF are these two Loser argueing about on youtube... but i mean... you guys think it's just between you two... ppl die everyday... by gang banging or just time... and cyberly arguing is the stupidest shit ever... it's not like these two would know... all i know is that our Hmong ppls are suffering and not much is being done aobut it... and here on youtube... not just two Losers aruguineing but a whole lot more.. man... The stupidity of some pplz...
stfu fuckface hoes, post your dumb ass asian shit somewhere els, this Video anit about you fuckhoes, now get the fuck out of this post shit, or els post something about this video, and if you dont love this video, youll rott in Hell, fuckhoe, now stfu
4 locc209 if you a laos i aint never heard of any laos gang poppin dem thangs...all yall pa dak be doin is tryna jack are nice rides but get shot up cuz you couldnt escape from the scene...
Thank you for posting this. I was about 9 years old when the war ended. I was too young to understand what the war was all about at the time but I was old enough to see all the sufferings the war has caused for my people....... i had tears rolling down face when i watch this video. I remember watching my father and many other young men getting ready to go to war. It is so sad that we have lost so many people. Thank you again. Peace!
Pardon on my language but this is the only way I can express. IF IT WASN'T BECAUSE OF THE SACRIFICE OF YOUR COMRADES(HMONG PEOPLE & MY GRANDPA (FROM MY MOM SIDE)) USA WOULDN'T FUCKEN WIN THE VIETNAM WAR!!!! USA WOULDN'T HAVE THE FACE RIGHT NOW, USA WOULDN'T BE STANDING A CHANCE! Even though I have never seen my grandpa, not even once and only one remaining picture of him, I will cherish every piece of him and every hmong people who sacrifice for our freedom. YOU ARE OUR HMONG WARRIOR.
Do your research before you start posting. The USA didn't win, that's why the troops fled back to the US. The US made a promised to the Hmong People to bring the Hmong people to the USA because they had failed their mission against communist. That is why Hmong People are still hiding in the jungle and genocide is still occurring. Next time, think before you type.
Of course all facts are in what I wrote so READ MORE C-A-R-E-F-U-L-L-Y!!!! Anyhow, of course its because of Hmong people the US had a chance to survive and flee back to their states still yet... the contract of staying neutral with the Laos government leave Hmong people in Laos no choice but to hide, run or killed but the Loas utilitarian human beings! and not last but least... respect people's opinion rather then yours, guide them through, instead of your ways of tolerance. Thanks.
you liar Gen. Vang Pao is a Terrorist, and you knoe it in your whole Existance, there isnt any evident or proof for your Statement, "Retards" God Will come to take out your Tongue for Foul Statements, and Condem you into the Deepest Part Of Hell
hella sad

I can only wish that the hmong gangs can watch these videos and see if they can still fight among each other.
we hmong only have each other...
the meaning of hmong means that no any cousin, no any relative and freedom.
fishline 2 years ago
Hmong gangs need to stop fighting with one another because 1) We have NOBODY else but ourselves 2) They make us hmong look bad as a people 3) they're losers. Honestly gangsters and wangsters need to stop being such bullies and come to their senses. We only have one another to love and if someday that is gone then we will have nobody else to turn to anymore.

I'm with you man. If the Gangster wants to bully people. They should go back to Laos and bully the Communist. Let see how TOUGH they are.
23GT35R 2 years ago
@23GT35R lol I am actually a girl but yeah that is the problem with most gangs these days, regardless of race/culture... I mean what's the point with fighting with each other? Seriously, gangs need to stop fighting each other... Although in most cases, hmong gangs are caused because of "white" Americans who, when hmong people first came to america, made fun of and bullied little hmong boys who in the end made gangs? I dunno, I saw something like that on TV and it makes sense haha.

Sib hlub sib pab.

all the chinese were afraid of us, 6 dynasty groups teamed up to defeat us hmongs, one main reason why hmong ppl lost their land was because other hmongs were too greedy and turned on their own kind. It's a good thing to know your history, so that you can appreciate it and also record it for future generations to learn this rich and colorful heritage.
These are all unforeseen benefits of the war that most people neglect to see.
jephboy 3 years ago
Were it not for the way, many of us would have never had the opportunities, education, wealth, or knowledge to even be sitting here discussing this (or you wouldn't be here reading my comments right now).
The diaspora from Laos helped to create a hybridized and robust Hmong network, across many countries and many languages, but yet still uniquely Hmong. Many of us speak new languages of our host countries, but we still hold the Hmong identity.
jephboy 3 years ago
In a way... the Secret War in Laos was the end of Hmong (Mong) hill tribe culture.

LoogKaoNeo 3 years ago
This was never a hmong vs lao conflict. There were hmongs on both the Royal Lao and communist Pathet Lao side. That is why there are hmong in the LPDR government too.
The hmong in the jungle are being persecuted because of their role in "The Secret War". The royal lao supporter were sent to "Re-education" camp where they were killed along with the royal family.
Sadly, new lao generation living abroad don't realize the reason they are here, they are refugees from the communist regime.

I am lao, I am so disappointed the americans had broke their promise and just abandon the hmong people. Where was the other people in laos. If all people in lao were to unite and fight back the communist we may have win and become a stronger nation.
amkha69 3 years ago
The "Seceret War" was the same time of the Lao Civil War between Royal Lao and communist Pathet Lao.
There many hmongs in high command in the Royal Lao Army and Royal Lao Air Force and within the royal lao government. There were hmongs on all side.
Was that picture of RFLA General Thao Tou Saychou 'Thao Ma' (hmong)
The royal lao requested help from the USA and the CIA responded with the "Secret War"
Hmong and lao did have a peaceful coexistence in the former Kingdom of Laos.

we slovenians were once in yugoslavia and the communists killed a lot of the white guard who fought against them after the war . it was horrible .. but years later after the war respression slowly weakened
anyway good luck
P.S. we have a saying .. po dežju vedno posije sonce .. which translated means .. after the rain sun will shine again

it's ignorant to say that because white hmong are originally black hmong. i am a white hmong but my relatives in vietnam are all black hmong. there are lots of Hmong in Vietnam because Vietnam borders Yunnan where many Hmong live. Just because they live in Vietnam do not make them part of the Vietcong party.

Just don't try to judge the world with your limited knowledge.
yhvoice 4 years ago
I agree; it's the hatred towards eachother what makes the world a bad place. From both sides!!! It's racism, greed for power, unforgiveness. From all sides. If we want to stop this, hatred and feelings of superiority must stop. We are equal, we are all humans

Thanks.
