@deadeaded The better question is why we pay smug, arrogant, annoying people like Jian to kiss the asses of irrelevant figures to the majority of the Canadian public. This is likely the only Q segment I have ever enjoyed. The CBC is a horrible example of public radio- The BBC has so much more variety and doesn't cater only to a small group of elitists that can't even handle a few risky jokes.
@greenbayandtottenham Risky? Really? Listen to Jimmy Carr or Ricky Gervais for a bit if you want something risky. These might be risky if told to a class of fifth graders, but anyone who'se managed to make the leap away from potty humour would just roll their eyes at this ridiculous display. But I do agree with you about the BBC; they're quite good.
@deadeaded No- I agree that this is not particularly risky at all- but it is by CBC standards because they are a bunch of over-paid snobs.
I think you see it as 'potty humour' and I respect that- but to me its clever and silly. I think Gervais is hillarious, but he makes most of his humour by being bitchy and rude. I can understand why people don't enjoy the humour- but you can hardly call it a ridiculous display. Einstein is a comic genius.
The best joke Super ever told was the one about the newlyweds and he's got a terribe foot odor and she's got a really bad breath and they kiss and he says "honey I think you ate my socks"..
And there's a lot of sexy details in the middle of the story but I won't tell.. HA!
I remembered this interview. I am SURE it was Dave Einstein....but wow....I have never heard Jian SO uncomfortable with an interviewee. Dave clearly felt this and never eased up, he was his own overpowering the conversation as normal....but funny.
The thing about the BBT interview, I thought Jian did okay in that one....I found it odd how he only mention the movie thing once in the intro and then he stuck to the music. When Jian was asking about his music childhood influences, Silly Bob Thorton kept ON and on about movie magazines and Jian tried to bring it back. It was bizarre...6am or not....
When I spoke with you at Massey Hall during the rally for CBC employees locked out, some time back I was telling you about a Toronto singer and his no #1 hit back in the sixties.
His name was Jackie Shane and the hit tune was "ANY OTHER WAY" you can now see him perform on You Tube singing another tune,
"WALKING THE DOG" this is a classic too and I advise you to have a look and listen.
Who makes jokes like that on public (government sponsored) radio? No wonder Jian seems uncomfortable...

TORONTO HISTORICAL BLUES MUSIC LOVERS TAKE NOTE
Mr.Ghomeshi,
When I spoke with you at Massey Hall during the rally for CBC employees locked out, some time back I was telling you about a Toronto singer and his no #1 hit back in the sixties.
His name was Jackie Shane and the hit tune was "ANY OTHER WAY" you can now see him perform on You Tube singing another tune,

A fan.
