Laurie Bird; I loved her in "Two-Lane Blacktop." I've met and gotten hooked up with cute chicks like her character in this classic "road" movie. Can't hang on to them: Chicks such as this one are like birds, they fly away the first chance they get. Very sad that she committed suicide. I'd be devastated, too, if she was my girlfriend.
Apparently, when this song was first written back many years ago, it was a faster track than this, but I much prefer this romantic interpretation. Art really does it justice. Thanks for posting.
What I would give to go back to 1975 and know what I know now. Granted I would have been 12 years old back then when this sappy song came out, but still, 12 years old is a good age to start-over and in 1975.......Bill Gates would be working for me right now in 2010 and I would be owning alot of gold.
@jettwonder Never thought of it that way, but mostly as romantic love song, perhaps the music that would lead to marriage, but now that you mentioned it, I suppose it would be the perfect wedding song. Good call.
LOL....Absolutely great song....one of the best love songs I've ever heard....From the album cover however it doesn't seem he only has eyes for only one....doesn't he have his arm around two ladies ?? : )
This song was played at my dads funeral I think the song is very beautiful and was very fitting to my dad R.I.P will always love you and I shall miss you loads x x x x
Wow! Thanks for posting one of the most beautiful love songs of all time. I always get sentimental when I hear it. Art's angelic voice accompanied by the soft instrumentals... one can imagine himself with his lover "in a garden or a crowded avenue."
I love this song......it was the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding....I am now happily divorced from that fool but this song still holds a special place in my heart!!
After 30 years I came realized I could get this album in amazon, had lost the long-play years ago, in my mind its music had been going on and on, one of those things you think you will never come across again, well, I love it, the lush arrangements, the very-very clever performances by the musicians, the voice, the songs, very classy indeed.
I adore this. This is one of the most mind blowing, romantic songs that I could possibly think of (Harry Nillson; I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now has to be a winner for me). They don't 'do' songs like they used to. This has to be in my Top Ten.
I know this was an old song when Artie recorded it but I can't help but feel as though it was written just for him in this arrangement. It fits his voice so well.
mmmm 1975 the autumn 35 years ago i just cant believe it seems like yesterday listening to it on my red leatherette clad radio. My Grandad had passed away in the april and my first summer of the dreaded hay fever!! not much in the way of tablets back then you had to suffer!!! i turned 8 that july!! great music and mems!!
Although music is a part of everyones life this is some of the best music ever made . Brings back some very fond memories of my youth. Thank Very Much M
@kylecrazyford IMO,. it seems as tho the album title was sort of a "warning" about his relationship with her ,,.i.e "breakaway" ,.seem's like his friend to his right, though not really mouthing out any particular word looks like he's warning him to breakaway before the relationship destroys him,..,that's what I took from it,.
We danced to this version for our wedding song. We are no longer married, but I still get sentimental and choked up when I hear it. The band we picked sounded just like this arrangement and so did the vocals. Amazing song.
JUST Beautiful... Art's voice is pure silk... I think he'd sound Great with Billy Joe Royal too for a DUET... similiar voices, but BOTH all their OWN... Simon and Garfunkel is the BEST! Classic, timeless... (:
Have to agree, except that the Flamingos had the #1 version of this, and Art's version is exactly the same. They're both great, as far as I'm concerned....
Beautiful arrangement!
