they continue to muddle traits, stresses moods and responses with the processes and experience of emotion which is simply the evolved monitoring and reactionary system which enables us to cope with environmental change andits perceived potential impact.. So long as they continue to fumble with explanations for brain activity the myth of multiple "emotions" and "emotional states" remains prevalent.

This is a brief physiological description of brain processes arising from the arousal of emotion. Emotion is not "generated" by such processes but induced by

prior judgement that a perceived situation is either threatening or promising and is awareness of some need to respond or adjust our beliefs, strategies expectancies and attitudes to accommodate any implications related to our survival,well being or quality of life. The "machinery" is simply our evolved coping mechanism.
