Jukka Tolonen is now a born again Christian, and his released a new album. The CD is called "Juudan Leijona" ("Lion of Judah" in English) which is a reference to Jesus Christ in Revelation 5:5. You can hear at least one song from this album here on Youtube, and a live video of another---these are all Jukka's reinterpretations of old Finnish (Lutheran) hymns on piano, and sometimes with accompaniment.
My old vinyl LP of "Lambertland" still had the round sticker with a reviewer's comment saying the band was "like a tidied up version of Traffic..." I remember reading in a 1973 MELODY MAKER issue that when Tasavallan Presidentti played a venue in Scotland, the crowd, used to dancing, all sat on the floor, mesmerised with the musicianship. The article also spoke of saxophonist/flautist Pekka Pöyry wrestling with depression. So sad that his life ended early.
Where did you get this? Great stuff - in my opinion Lambertland is one of the finest albums EVER made, but you will never see it any top 1000 list even.
@BN11JP I've been to the edge of the universe and back musically, you're so very, very right. This band was SCARY good, when I bought this, because of solely the cover(used to take chances like that back then, often)we just played it Over n Over,Was/IS without question the GREATEST album..You've NEVER HEARD!
I agree, it would be marvellous to see entire clips of these live performances. Tasavallan Presidentti were to Finland what Focus was to the Netherlands and PFM was to Italy: in short, continental European prog rock that gave the Brits a run for their money. I always thought this band had a bit of Zappa/John McLaughlin influence after beginning in more of a Burt Bacharach pop/Cream blues-rock hybrid, if you can imagine!
@chrisart7 I couldn't agree more! I was 16 when I first got into Focus and hardly anyone in the UK had heard of them in the early 70's. I was sorry to hear about Jukka Tolonen's troubles. I was told he injured his hand and only plays piano now.
Unbelievable! Amazing time signatures!
