when he said that he wasn't looking for a shredfest, he meant that the competition wasn't about how fast you could play. he picked out the solos that fit the best with the track, even if they contained shredding, because those solos sounded best with the track.

I think it's kinda lame that nearly all of the top 10, and also the winner, are really shreddy. If I knew that would be rewarded I guess I would have tried a different approach. But much cudos to Ricardo Walls. He proves that shredding and feel ain't opposites.

What happened to "This is not a shred competition?"... When instructions are given for a competition, they should remain the same.

Now we watch the result video and we see people getting complements for their shred skills, calling them behemoths and demons of shredding.

Sorry for naming Victor de Andres as an argument for this comment, he IS indeed a spanish SHRED DEMON like Rob says....

Eventually I didn't take part, I was considering it but I was quite busy. I must admit that I am pretty disappointed with the choice of winner. This guy is incredible of course but as I remember, you said in the competition video that you are not looking for a shredder, that you wanna soulful and full of feeling solo. That's why I'm a bit surprised. Anyway, I hope for so more competitions, I wana take part in it :)

I was looking for some more bluesy players, but 85% of the competitors were shred type dudes...

Dude, don't stress yourself out too much! You're very good for a guy your age...I wish I could have played like you when I was 14.

What can you do? Well. practice always helps ;-))

Relax , focus on the basics: tone, bending, vibrato, accuracy. The shreddy stuff will come along with that. Try to learn the songs you like, eat lots of fresh fruit and listen to Heavy Metal!!
