  • I love this guy.

  • cant send email to gmail and hotmail contacts

  • i can't seem to save my editing in the "hosts" file

  • @Snowkakegubbe click "start", find notepad and right click run as admin, ctrl+A to copy all data from hosts file into new untitled file, edit the file and save it where the hosts file sit; replace it

  • You go too fast. you need to slow down and go step by step. I can't find the windows EXE file on the website it's lunix os. You don't give the viewer enough time to see what you are doing

  • Also what are the ports i need to forward?

  • How to Put Mail Server on Internet

  • "The requested URL /mail/index.php was not found on this server." i dont get it

  • For thos getting the IMAP error when u try to log into squirlmail, go back to the config and instead of using something like "abcdedssda.local" for ur $imapServerAddress, use 'localhost';

    $imapServerAddress = 'localhost';

  • If your localhost/mail/index.php isnt working, its probably cause of case sensitivity......if u used a Capital M when making the alias, u need to use a capital M in the address bar....

  • no offense but your voice just drones on and on and on... but a very good tutorial, if i say so myself.

  • Can i send mail to my hotmail?

  • When i try to connect it says ERROR: Config file "config/config.php" not found. You need to configure SquirrelMail before you can use it.

  • localhost/mail/index.php is not wroking. how can i let it work?

  • Hi. Thanks to you I have a running web & email server. Great tutorial...

P.S. : For an inexperienced user like me, you could mention that you have to add exception to port 25 in firewall. I spent like 30 min to find this important info :) ... thanks

  • BORING

  • i've got this error :

Error connecting to IMAP server: x-market.ro. 10060 : A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

  • How can you do this on a mac, tinkernut must rememebr not all his subscribers are PC's.

  • I've 5.000.000 acconts on my mail server

  • you are the man

  • :(

  • ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.

  • @mepizzasmangled same thing here too!

  • @mepizzasmangled same here

  • Great tutorial, but I have a question.. is it possible to setup some type of application that will scan the incoming emails and possibly return a new one back to the sender??

  • would i still get emails if let's say my computer or router is unplugged?

  • @Killer0079ly Most likely, no. If your computer or router is unable to connect to the Internet, then the server also cannot connect to the Internet, for it relies on the computer and router for the Internet. Only messages (maybe) that you send from your own computer that runs the server could be retrieved in this case. At least, I think so...

  • @rptech06 Yeah I was thinking that because if that is the case, then this is kind of unreliable for me personally.

  • some servers may not allow you to send emails to them if it is your server sending, in linux there is a way to change it so your isp sends the message for the server

  • I can't send or recieve emails from yahoo hotmail or any other mail service.

I can only send emails to Gmail but I cant recieve emails from it!!

    Please Help!!!

  • @pc95hacker That's probably because you are running your server on a private network. Other e-mail servers cannot get into private networks to send the e-mail.

  • @rptech06 But isn't something that i can do???

  • @pc95hacker Well, I just thought, you said you could only send and receive messages from people using your mail server only. Can they connect from other places, like a public library or another home?

If they can only connect inside your network, then go to either 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.1.255 to access your router page. From here you should be able to change network settings.

  • how do you upload this to the web because my internet keep on crashing every half hour or so

  • I can't access localhost/mail/index.php - I tried replacing localhost with my IP address, but it still said "page not found". I'm using chrome, would have any effect on this? I followed all the previous steps in the tutorial, so do you have any idea why this might not be working? Any help much appreciated.

  • @cosmo7omsoc @ikaniki @timajaxownt Try localhost/mail/src/index.php or (your ip)/mail/src/index.php. This should fix the problem.

  • @rptech06 Thanks for the help, but unfortunately it still doesn't work. For IP address, should I be using "IPv4 Address" or "Default Gateway"? I tried them both but it still didn't work.

  • @cosmo7omsoc You should just be using IPv4. Chrome works with this project; at least it did for me. IPv4 & Default Gateway shouldn't have anything to do with it. Does anything come up for localhost or your ip address when you just type that in?

  • @rptech06 well for localhost, I just get the google search for "localhost" and for my IP address, I get an option to reset the password for my wireless router...

  • @cosmo7omsoc Did you try "localhost/" ? This should actually give you the same page as for the IP. You might need to port forward, if the router page comes up for the IP address.

  • @rptech06 when I put in "localhost/" I just got "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to localhost"... and forgive me for being a computer ignoramus, but what is port forward??

  • @cosmo7omsoc Gigafide has a port forwarding link to one of his videos at 4:17 in this video. You can also visit tinkernut (dot) com/archives/163.

If you cannot connect to localhost, then that means your computer server isn't working or on. Did you start WampServer? (this command is in your All Programs menu in the Start Menu.)

  • @rptech06 I started WampServer in All Programs and that means that "localhost/" now takes me to the WampServer homepage. But typing in "localhost/mail/index.php" or "localhost/mail/src/index.php" still just tells me "The requested URL /mail/index.php was not found on this server."

  • @rptech06 I checked over the tutorial again to make sure I'd done everything right and the only thing that could be a problem is that in the "C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc" file the file named "hosts" is a "Text Document" instead of a "File". Would this have any effect on anything?

  • @cosmo7omsoc YES! That's it! It needs to be a file, not a text document. That should fix the problem now.

  • @rptech06 I've made it a file, but it still won't work!! I can type in localhost/ or my IP address and get to the WampServer homepage, but I still can't access localhost/mail/index.php or localhost/mail/src/index.php

  • @cosmo7omsoc You DID create an alias for SquirrelMail, right? And also, is it now saying "server error" or "file not found"?

  • @rptech06 I've created two accounts on hmail... and it says "404 Not Found" then "The requested URL /mail/index.php was not found on this server."

  • @cosmo7omsoc I don't get it then. Try reinstalling WampServer or try it on a different computer. Some versions of WampServer didn't work on my computer, for example, I have to run WampServer 2.0 or Wamp 1.7.5 (I think), for 2.1 always says it is offline, no matter what.

  • @rptech06 Alright, I'll try some stuff. Thanks a lot for all your help, it's nice of you to take pity on a computer idiot like me!

  • @cosmo7omsoc No problem; and with your understanding of what I have been saying and the descriptions you've given me, I wouldn't say you are a computer idiot. In fact, you have been very helpful.

  • @cosmo7omsoc Its because its localhost/mail/src/index.php now!

  • how do u do this on a mac?

  • i cannot acess to the localhost/mail/index.html because it says not found, i did everything like on tutorial. what should i do???

  • dr. Hack xD

  • Hello I have tried to install hMailServer and I can't connect to my mySQL server from the same machine using WAMPserver so could you help me?

  • Is it madatory to have a DNS Server to setup a Mail Server in Linux? If not, then localhost might not work on other machines :(

  • The login works fine but I cant send of get email with it.. Help??

  • what video editor did you use?

  • Everything works, but I can only send and receive messages from people using MY mail server. What do I need to change to make this work with DynDNS so I could send messages to people using different email servers?

  • @cubby1996 SAME ISSUE. Please Respond to this gigafide.

  • @cubby1996 did you ever find a solution?

  • @ghttboi nope.

  • @cubby1996 Well you need to buy a domain until you can make your server able to send and recieve emails from outsiders. Then the domain you connect with your ip. Long story short

  • @regalen58 if I just bought a domain then I wouldn't be asking. Email accounts usually come with paid domain names. I was asking how to set it up to work with DynDNS.

  • @cubby1996 Oh you where going that way, then i can't help. Havent got so far yet :/

  • Hi..... I managed to follow this beautiful video, however get an error logging into web mail

Error connecting to IMAP server: rizkids.local. 10061 : No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

    What's wrong?

  • @wolfhouseclan Administrator Priveliges. Run the program (Notepad) as administrator. This may require you to right click on Notepad and click "Run as Administrator." Otherwise, if you cannot find it, just type the path into Windows Explorer.

  • its gave me "Error connecting to IMAP server: ########.local.0:php_network_getaddresses:getddrinfo failed No such host is known"

    thanks

  • i cant change host it shows: please chesk if this is opened in another progroam.

    BUT ITS NOT..

    plz help..

  • @60jai Run Notepad as an administrator (Right Click --> Run as Administrator). Then navigate back to Hosts and save the file.

  • How do I do this if I already have an existing Microsoft Windows 2008 Server with a domain and DNS already in place?

  • @XtR0pX I would assume that you would just disregard everything BUT SquirrelMail and HMailServer. You shouldn't have to edit "Hosts" or use a ".local." Just use your domain already enabled.

  • The "Put Online" label is very obscure.

  • tanks

  • I just did this for like 30 minutes to find out when I'm done you can't even send E-Mails....

  • Does anyone know how to run PERL in WAMP?

  • @Films4You Yeah, it's called XAMPP

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you I will look up XAMPP

    I'm hooked on Perl.

  • @Films4You Lol, Perl is something else... :P I'm more into PHP. But good luck with it.

  • @iKhazModan Yes PHP, I do PHP as well... I'm old school PERL.

P.S. Nothing worng with PHP, and PHP does have some advantage. So why do I use PERL?

Quote John F. Kennedy's moon speech ... We do these things, not because they are easy, but because thay are hard... LOL

  • im having having an error when it comes to send and get mail. when i send mail to the account i just made it says

    Technical details of permanent failure:

DNS Error: Domain name not found

  • @caramellown SquirrelMail, if operating on a ".local" domain, will not be found by any other e-mail servers.

  • hy i can't safe hosts notepad :s

  • @bboy3fisk ENGLISH MOTHER FUCKER, DO YOU SPEAK IT?

  • @quinnjdq ROFLMFAO!

  • @davidthekid2000 Glad you like it!

  • hi thanks for the tutorial it worked great, just one question, i dont know anything about dns and i have my own domain names hosted with godaddy, how would i use them for my mail server on a subdomain email.domain.com and then how do i make the email server global so people can access it from outside my LAN

  • The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server

    please help someone.

  • i got a problem then i try to connect it says. You don't have permission to access /mail/index.php on this server.

    could anyonehelp me?

  • Can anyone help me? from I cant get further than 3:55, cuz i cant go to localhost mail index php

  • @24242761 Hey here is a solution I think. if you go to the task bar left click on the wampserver icon then it should say localhost at the top, click on that then it should take you to the wamp server page if you look at the bottem of that then it says "Your Aliases" (which you created in this tutorial) click on mail which you created in this tutorial and then log in with your username and password made in hmail. Please vote up so people can see.

  • @24242761 The video has an error. The correct link is:

    localhost/mail/src/index.php

  • CAN'T PUT ONLINE!!!

  • when i tried to log in to squirrelmail, i got this error: Error connecting to IMAP server: rudygb.local. 0 : php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: No such host is known.

    Does anyone know why?

  • @rudstre Make sure you have properly edited the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\host file and the config.php.

That error is because it does not recognise the IMAP server. :)

  • @LIONKING0409 .local usually means an internal server, but I've experienced difficulties when changing .local to .com in the Hosts file. Even .COM doesn't always work. It also could be if you have it set up in a private network (such as a home network).

  • @LIONKING0409 how can we make it ON LINE?

  • Hey!

It works fine for me, only 1 problem, i can send mail for anyone, but i can recive mail.

    Anyone can help me why?

  • when ever i try to edit hosts file, windows wont let me save it because I dont have permission. Any thoughts?

  • @rudstre You need to run the text editor as an administrator. Just right click on Notepad and click "Run as Administrator." Then navigate to the Hosts file.

  • @rptech06 thanks!

  • 0:00

  • okay, Im in the Process of doing this myself as a little project I'm a student at a Computing support Program in my University but we did not cover servers at all yet. I was just wondering. Is there anyway to change your ip with a domain name? i believe you need a DNS server for that? im not 100%

  • @needtobelazy Well, I think so, but I did find something that may help with that process that uses DNS:

    changeip. com/ddnsinfo.asp

  • @rptech06 i looked at that but now im looking around for a way for me to host my Own DNS server. I rather not pay when i got 3 servers in my closet sitting there....lol. I have yet to find one.. also I have redhat installed on one of them and i cant seem to find out how to host one.. u got any ideas? perhaps windows server 2008? Im installing it now on my other server... you got any idea?

  • @needtobelazy I tried out Windows Server 2003 R2 today, and I think it will help with DNS, and should be able to give you a domain name when instructions are followed in the wizard. This should apply for Windows Server 2008 as well.

  • @rptech06 OKay im going to give it a try right now. thanks bud
