Heh, thanks man. Don't mean to start a debate but I think Yoshi's better in Brawl myself. I've been a Yoshi main since the original also. Regardless of the "true" answer; it's a tough decision. Maybe Brawl just suits me better so I'm better at it; i dunno but for me personally, Yoshi's better in Brawl, heh.
Yeah, I haven't had a chance to practice with Yoshi in Brawl so I don't really know how much he has changed. So I guess you could say my opinion isn't really valid yet. From what I can tell thus far it seems like they weaken him a bit. That's why I say he is better in Melee. As soon as I get Brawl then maybe I will see what you and that other person is talking about. But yeah, maybe you use Yoshi different from me. Anyway, when I get Brawl I would not mind facing another Yoshi player. :)
I know I'm gonna get flammed for this, but I've just never liked Yoshi. I can play light fighters like Kirby, but Yoshi just never seemed that good. After watching this though, I conclude Yoshi is pretty dang good and I'm just terrible with him.
He's.... different. Now that Brawl's out, I can say that Yoshi in melee was similar to Captain Olimar in Brawl. His attack style is so weird that unless you practice for literally weeks if not months then you can't be good with him. I've been playing Yoshi (by the way, i'm YOSH, the light blue yoshi) since the original smash brothers on 64, so I've had about 9 years of Yoshi experience. I'd encourage you to give Yoshi a try in Brawl; he's MUCH better. But I won't preach, do what you want ;)

Isn't Germany really good at Mario Kart? I remember seeing a lot of world records from the original on the SNES (and now the Wii) coming from Japan, Germany, and France mainly. Have you played it yet?

I played as the best person at my high school, perhaps in the district, as yoshi in SSBM, and after playing 50 games with him the night of brawl's release, he just is like playing as a clanky medium powered drunk driver. I originally chose yoshi because he was medium fast, fast attacks, fast response, and actually took skill. All aspects are now missing from Brawl Yoshi.
I'll have to disagree with you. All of my combos still work in Brawl as they did in melee. None of my combos relied on the double jump cancel and since that got removed, my combos were unaffected. Also, the recovery time for every move has been greatly reduced. I placed 3rd in my state in melee using Yoshi the week before Brawl came out, and so far I'm undefeated when I've used Yoshi ever since Brawl came out.
I hate how Yoshi is always getting shafted, and carries a bad rep. I wanna learn to use him well but I don't know where to begin. You think when brawl comes out you can make like a Yoshi 101 video, because you're really good.

Thanks! Taco (that's the dark blue Yoshi) and I (Yosh) have been playing together for about a solid year and a half, so we're pretty evenly matched. He eventually switched to Falco, but I stayed with Yoshi (and I'll stay with Yoshi in Brawl too).
Dude, I found out this rarely helpful technique with Yoshi in melee. If your trying to recover, but your the opposite direction from the edge, do the eg throw right above it, and you'll grtab the edge. It's rare to happen though with you being in the opposite direction from the edge though.
He's aware of that technique now. It's because you can turn around in the air with B moves as long as you tap the opposite direction.
It's actually useful as an edge hog, as you can jump at the edge and turn around to grab it. I still think wavedashing onto the edge is more useful, though.
Yeah, I use that technique as an edgehog now. Taco hates it ; ). And, if the edgehog doesn't kill 'em, then they'll still take 10-12 damage when they get hit by the egg. Although, if they're at a high enough damage, I'll intentionally direct the egg away from them so that they can't use it to get their 3rd jump again, but sometimes that backfires and they get to come back anyway.

Yeah, I bet it'll be unlikely. But, if Brawl's anything like melee, then there won't be any good Yoshi players; so if i see one, chances are it might be you. I'm sticking with Yoshi as my main character in Brawl.
With a combination like that, I'd suggest Sheik as your 4th character. It would be a good addition to the speed aspect with Pikachu and Falco. I don't know what you're gonna do for Brawl, cause they haven't announced whether Sheik (or Falco) will be in the game. But, good luck, and thanks for watching!

I learned all of mine from Fumi too. Apparently no one realizes that this is a fight from a year ago. Just wait 'til I get the next matches up that we recorded a couple weeks ago. You'll notice MUCH improvement.

My friend and I actually recorded about 5-6 matches a couple days ago. Right now we're converting them to a compressed file, then we can edit them and put them up here. They should be up within the next week, so watch for improvement!

Hopefully I can convince my friend Suen to record one of our matches. He's the best player I've ever seen period.
Your joking right? Yoshi is my best character. These 2 make yoshi look bad. The only impressive combo i saw was the egg into running feet thanks ima copy that into my already impressive strategy and for future reference guys a,a,-> a, up smash, jumping egg, into jumping tail:P and a,a into down smash and back tail in up smash and grab throw down into yoshi feet. u guys suck seriously work on your combos.
I'm not going to lie, when we made that video, we sucked. We have gotten a lot better since then, and also it was hard to get an accurate recording because the way we did it was by running it through a computer which gave both of us about half a second of lag. We're gonna put up another video shortly on our improvement
Combos are fun only when you get to pull them off on someone else. They pretty much suck when you get hit by them cause there's nothing you can do. Some may disagree with you and me, but as long as you're having fun, it shouldn't matter how you play.
The reason we "sucked" in this video is because the way we recorded it had a huge lag. It was almost like playing in 1/2 speed through the entire match. Also, as i said in a previous comment, i refuse to use wavedashes, which you could say makes me worse at the game, but i think it's cheap because it's a glitch. We're gonna put another video up eventually with the other guy actually using one of his characters; maybe it'll be better.
That's called a wave dash. I don't do it because I think it's cheap, but basically, it's a glitch in the game where you jump and immediately midair dodge diagonally down. The result causes you to slide and be able to instantly go into an attack or a shield with no lag time. Like i said, i think it's cheap so I don't use it.

Yeah, I was the light blue yoshi. The other guy and I play smash probably every day. Yoshi's my main character and my friend normally switches between ganondorf and jigglypuff. He learned to play as Yoshi just so that we could have a good match to put up here. Leave comments!
