I remember when I first saw they gonna use inflatable airbags to bounce the thing when it landed -- when the computer simulation showed it was supposed to go "boing, boink, boink" like a beach ball on Mars, I snickered and nearly choked on my Chinese takeout meal, it looked so anticlimactic to the high technology.
