I do remember when Casper (the live-action one) used the word "bitch" a number of times, it put me off. In all honesty, when I was little, I didn't even notice this movie used the word "hell" in this song. Perhaps it was because they didn't use it in such a derogatory way to make it stand out.
This is an awesome song... but I'll confess, I'm stupid and don't get the "C) Sneak out in the middle of the night" joke. Like, how the hell does it constitute as a method of payment?
@CalumAJ99 It doesn't. That's the point. You get to spend most of the night but sneak out with out paying, so you get your room for free. That's why the place is such a mess, they can't afford it to fix it since, it would seem, most occupants have chosen the C method of "payment" :)
@Stulz Oh right, I gathered it was something like that, I was just perplexed as ever since I was a kid, I took from the wording that Pops was going to get them to pay there and then, and and that as opposed to paying, they were just going to sneak out in the middle of the night EVERY night, which would have defeated the point of staying at a hotel
best line in this movie is "we got ever kind of critter, we got ever kind of pest but treat them all like equeals like any other guest" love jim henson words to live by!
@bway1497 later in the movie. When the Muppets are arguing amongst themselves and Kermit shouts for everyone to be quiet, Janice was all "it's my life okay? so if I wanna walk around on a beach naked....::pause when she realizes everyone else stopped talking::....oh"
The sharp contrast in rating these days are do both to the MPAA and our country becoming more and more conservative over the years. Many PG movies in the 1980's that were considered family or kids movies used "shit" and even the occasional "fuck". Myself nor parents were ever offend by the use of "hell" or "naked" in this film be it 25 years ago or today. Our country is becoming way too uptight.
@Stulz: But even said kid's programming is enjoyable for everyone (even with Elmo, Sesame Street is still enjoyable in comparison to other shows that attempt to emulate Dora [even Mickey Mouse himself has suffered for it]), hence why they've lasted the test of time. In fact, despite your political stance, Obama is the 1st president weaned/raised on Sesame Street!
@TherealRNO "In fact, despite your political stance, Obama is the 1st president weaned/raised on Sesame Street!" Sorry, I'm confused by this. I'm not trying to be political, especially since I'm for Pres. Obama.
@Stulz: I'm saying that Obama is the first president to have truly grown up on Sesame Street. That said, you'd think he'd be for giving PBS more funding instead of cutting back on it, thus forcing Sesame Street to only do a handful of episodes per year (nowadays, the dwindling cast--both human & Muppet--is so small that Elmo's oversaturation seems almost necessary to keep the show going [because the show was cancelled elsewhere--ex: the UK--before Kevin Clash became director]).
Besides, growing up, these words didn't both me. Nor did I really notice there use now as an adult. I got the jokes more and got more out of it but didn't think "OMG! Janice said 'naked'!!" LOL
Besides.... Janice says something a 'lil more risque in Muppets Take Manhattan anyway hah
@FreakinSweet1987 I don't think there are any "fucks" in anytrue G rated "kids movies", but there are however a few in family friendly PG rated movies. Big, Beetlejuice, Spaceballs and Flight of the Navigator for example snuck in at least one.
@MichaelBrookham ...Sleeping Beauty uses the word "Hell" once, also. And it's G, too. I don't think it's going to cause a national emergency. Lighten up. ;)
@MichaelBrookham Since when was 'Hell' and 'naked' considered "mild language" and require a higher rating? The content of the movie is very G rated. Besides that: The Muppets were always more for the adults/parents than it was for the kids. The Muppet Show was the adult's show with Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street both catering to a much younger crowd.
The original Ninja Turtles live action (90s) movie has the turtles saying "Bitchin'" and "Damn". Those would be mild.
@MichaelBrookham Besides... there are kids shows that use the word 'naked'. I believe Invader Zim and Spongebob Squarerpants are two that come to mind.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but did the rats go from dirty gray and having pink paws to being brown and having black "fingers" in this movie or The Muppets Take Manhattan?
There's no fire in the fireplace there's no carpet on the floor don't try to order dinner there's no kitchen anymore but if the roads been kind of bumpy and you need to rest a spell SO WELCOME HOME TO HAPPINESS HOTEL! 0:40-0:50
