Tracy Thompson - this one's for you! Watch it a few times to really catch everything. This is a great example of direction/choreography/design blending perfectly but none taking unnecessary focus away from the other and serving the number!
CHORUS: "The elephant trunk and democrat donkey will be down the drain and sunk, The day the peoples victory is won. With spirit and spunk he's gunna debunk the jabber and junk that they've been feeding us,
I played lead trumpet in the pit for this musical once. This was a really fun song to play and the crowd really loved it. This whole show was fun. I would play it again for sure.
I saw this show in '92 when it ran on Broadway with all the original cast members you see in the video and in fact I even have a poster of the show autographed by each and every cast member including Keith Carradine, Dee Hoty and Cady Huffman, it's one of my prized possesions :)
Hahahaha! Awesome! I have this on tape from the Tony Awards someplace, but the tape is nearly worn out because I played it so much. I actually learned this routine, believe it or not.
Obviously, it is not someone holding a consumer camera in the audience, this was professionally produced, I wonder who for if not the public? Looks like it ended up in Japan, thanks for posting this, I loved this show!
hey lauren! if you did W.R.F. with Larry Gatlin - I would have seen you in it! I was making good money at the time & when my mom came to visit me in NY - I bought two seats right up front in front of the spot (my favorite) where Cady Huffmann pops up in Willamania! My mother loved this number on the Tony's & I looked over at her at one point (i think during Diamonds for M.R.) and the look on her face was like the actress who plays Babs' mother in Funny Girl. Joy and awe. Thanks!
@PuffLippy06 hi there! I just saw your message! I was with Larry Gatlin, but it was on tour, so you probably didn't see my show. I'm so glad that you and your mom liked it, though!!!
is it the norm for Broadway shows not to distribute DVD's...I was in the balcony box stage left, and would love a video momento, but not finding anything, which goes for all the shows I've seen...what's up with that?
Hell yesss! Did this in theatre the other day!

Mittdawnson, this was probably performed in Japan as part of a showcase of Broadway shows at the time, as marketing to lure tourists to NYC.

Thank you!

I miss doing this night after night! It always put me in the best mood. Unless I lost a boob puff. Then I just felt silly.

Yes, it's the norm. Very few shows ever get released on video. It's too expensive.
mprmike 3 years ago
that's too bad...I also heard from a producer friend in LA who says it's a residuals issue as well.
