  • T REX SHOULD ALWAYS BE NUMBER 1!!!!!!

  • What are Smokie doing there? Where's Rod Stewart - he was Glam before Glam and still Glam at the end of the seventies when Slade, Mud, Sweet, Showaddy were well on the wane? And where are Mott, Sparks and Cockney Rebel?

  • someone needs to have a closer look at what glam rock is

  • I totally disagree with that list ...Mud were a teddy boy band so were Showad an dWizzard were rock n roll based ...Slade were an originally a SKINHEAD band Trex were originally a hippy band

So that leaves 1st Bowie, 2nd LOU REED. 3rd Sweet. 4th Gary Glitter, has to be that order the rest ye can argue about..

  • @MALTYKIA shit I forgot KISS !!!!!!!

  • showaddywaddy??????

  • @ppauly exactly !!!

  • Slade, T.Rex, Mott the Hoople, Roxy Music, Sweet, David Bowie, New York Dolls, 1970's-era Kiss, Garry Glitter and Queen.

  • GREAT! THE MIGHTY SLADE AT THEIR RIGHT PLACE!! SLADE IS POWERFUL, IS PURE ENERGY, IS ROCK!!!! RESPECT TO THE MASTERS!!!! DIEGO FROM TURIN (ITALY) SLADE FAN FROM 1971....I'M CRAZEE FOR SLADE!!!!

  • I like the glam 80, the 70 groups have madehistory, but I do not really like

  • SLADE FUCKIN RULES END OF STORY, KEEP ON ROCKIN THE MIGHTY SLADE!!!!!!!!!! NO ONE GOT EVEN CLOSE TO SLADE NOT EVEN BOWIE . SLADE HAD 17 TOP 20 HITS NO OTHER ACT EVER HAS.

  • Its top 10. Spinal Tap is # 11.

  • I have to repeat, 'Where's Gary Glitter'. Whatever his crimes you can't censor art or music, or, even, rewrite history. Gary Glitter was the top glam act at the time, so it is criminal to try to rewrite history, because of his immorality. Michael Jackson has been canonised, even though he committed the same crimes (but had more money and better lawyers; the O J Simpson effect), and people still play Wagner, even though he was one of the biggest anti-semitic bastards around.

  • Glam rock is horrible.

  • Queen weren't a Glam Rock band, Kiss and Alice Cooper are American therefore not Glam Rock - Smokie, Mud, Wizzard and Showaddywaddy are not Glam Rock bands and the pic of Smokie is actually a pic of The heavy Metal Kids. Apart from that it's a great list. But hey, Glam Rock or whatever, the 70's were the greatest era for music, I love it all - I'm just glad people are still interested in it. Rock On x

  • Slade at the top where there meant to be :)

Makes me proud of being from the Midlands

  • Bon Jovi?

  • Comment removed

  • excuse me but where the fuck is KISS ???

  • Where the hell is queen?

  • Come on,Dave Bowie on 6 and T.Rex on 2? I'd put them both on the first place

  • what the fucking shitttttttttttttt!!

MARC BOLAN IS THE CREATOR OF THE GLAM YOU CAN'T SAY IS THE SECOND!!

  • What gutless retard put this list together?

No Gary Glitter (surprise, surprise). Showaddywaddy were middle-aged teddy boys, and when were Smokie ever glam???

  • Definitly Gary Glitter should be in there. The name says it all. Also, I would place The Sweet at No. 1

  • Hey... wheres twisted sister!

  • What people forget is that Marc Bolan wasn't copying anyone. That was his style. He lived the "Glam" life. Then other bands adopted an outrageous image to sell records. Don't get me wrong, in the UK the charts of the early 70's were all the better for it. We had great pop/rock singles from these acts. Bowie was his own man and and was unique. Roxy took Glam in a new direction and were originals.

But who cares....the music was brilliant and the outfits were crazy!!

  • ive only heard of 10 of these

  • dude over half those bands i wouldnt even say were glam rock i mean some looked straight disco and on top of that new york dolls werent even on the list wtf

  • Got it right with Slade, I would put Sweet second with T-Rex third...But Showaddywaddy with there '60's rock n roll, someone havin a laugh. And that picture aint Smokie unless Chris Norman had a face lift very early in life

  • The official? Alright. :D

  • i've only heard of 4 of those

  • I was not waiting Slade to be on Top. jjjjj

  • where is Gary GLITTER? That "Glitter" is not for free.

  • how did rateyourmusic compile this list? what was it based on?

  • Why is Bowie 6? and Iggy was glam why wasn't on there?? I wish I knew :/

  • and where are the Kiss ? :-P ... but i like this video(and these bands).. :-)

  • I agree with you that he may be inspired in the visual of some artists of Glam Rock, but his music doesn't sounds like the genuine british Glam...

  • i have never heard of 9 of them

  • Seriously where the hell is Roxy Music

  • Alice Cooper is not Glam Rock...

  • @AndrGaribaldi I understand where you're coming from, but there are a lot of points to be made that Alice Cooper does fit a lot of glam rock definitions (or at least he used to fit them). Some of those definitions would be the theatrics, the gender reversals, and he did wear a lot of pretty shiny outfits back in the day. Disagree with me if you must, but to a lot of people, Alice Cooper fits into glam rock.

  • @AndrGaribaldi well he was Glam before there was glam. So was Iggy

  • Gary Glitter should be AT LEAST top 3 on this list. Having his backing band on the list without him takes the piss (cue stupid "peedo" comments).

  • where's Elton, Rod Stewart or The New York Dolls?

  • glam > thrash

  • i would like to complain........................don't give me asshole comments im just kidding you humorless assholes.

  • @electricblue7 That's glam metal. Glam rock is the &0s and primarily British.

  • Wheres Rubettes and the Bay city rollers? ha ahah

  • I know it is not your list dude but how could Bowie be 6th out of a list of ten for anything?

  • @shire2005 Well said, my friend.

  • @shire2005 David Bowie redefined Glam for what it is, no one beats Bowie. I agree with Shire, Bowie shouldn't be 6th on a list of Glam, he should be first, especially on a list of Glam.

  • @shire2005 What if the title of the list is "List of people in alphabetical order in which David Bowie is the sixth person of the group"?

  • Garry glitter should be remembered for his music not his sick perversions

  • @russ9356 I heard his "sick perversions" were very consensual with a girl who was not that young. The media lies. I think Gary rules!

  • @russ9356 TRUE but you cant blame fowk for not wanting to remember him period //I mean in context if DAMER or Neilson or Fred West were pop stars we would want to remember them now !!

  • @MALTYKIA how about Jerry Lee Lewis or Chuck Berry both had their fuck ups with young girls but they are not forgotten !

  • I freakin love glam rock, me and a couple friends are actually forming a band right now.

  • this is only an oppinion but the top 3 were correct in any order ,, mud would be my fourth, 5 bowie , 6 wizard , 7 showaddywadyy 8.remember we didnt know tha gg was a perv then ,,, but u must put the gliiter band in in here ,,9 ..mott the hoople 10 steve harley and the cockney rebel ,, only my oppion , but then again in my mind yours doesnt count ,, pmsl

  • The Glitter Band?!

You mean Gary Glitter of course but I guess these days it's un PC to say that.

  • if Alice Coopers is on there why not Iggy and the Stooges

  • motley crue?

    def leppard?

  • @SmashBrosBrawl glam ROCK. not glam METAL

  • No New York Dolls?

  • @Sublime562KC They should have been #1-

  • The Cockettes was the first glam band ever.

  • Hahahahahha...this is SO STUPID. Not even 1 (ONE) Glam bamnd is listed here. hahah...CRAP ! Put The Beatles here and then fuck off.

  • @Vanjal: You clearly do not know what Glam Rock is.

  • @SteveBraithwaite Actually I do and that's why this bunch of clowns seems sso funny to me presented as a glam rock. ABBA is a thrash metal than right ?

  • Wheres MOTLEY CRUE!!!!!! WTF?!?!?!?!!!!!

  • Roxy Music & Suzy Quatro MUST be in the top 10 - and what about Mott the Hoople?

  • Wheres DOKKEN???

  • @TheDokken95 Yeah Dokken belongs here !

  • why is alice so low

  • Sweet.

  • no susie quatro , no gary glitter...( i'd put them b4 showaddywaddy and smokie)

  • Roxy Music and SAHB are the best!

  • Smokie Glam? Aye Right, Where Are Roxy Music,And Bowie With Ziggy Stardust Should Surely B No 1 , Many Other Bands Missed,Kiss,Hello,New York Dolls,Velvet U Ground Ect..Just My Opinion K FlaresTributeNights..Keep Glam Alive.

  • Great list, especially from 1.20, very true that!

  • Great list, at least Slade is considered the ultimate top here, they have been overlooked in VH1 lists of 100 greatest etc. but Slade are among the greatests and certainly most versatile music acts ever to walk on this planet!

  • @carlphone Well said Carl. Flying the flag , I love it.

  • What a sorry-ass list. "I found this on a website" is no excuse to post it.

  • @joydeliverer Why are you dissing this upload? You clever boy. What excuse is needed to post it? Your permission? And I at least agree with no.1,2 and 3. Weird-ass comment of you, joy deliverer, you are not bringing any 'joy' here, grumpy man, huh?

  • where is queen ya know what i doesnt matter cuz they are in da rock n roll hall of fame

  • What a shitty top 10 list. Smokie and Showaddywaddy being glam rock? Far out, gimme a break! *THIS* is the definitive glam rock top 11 list: 11) KISS 10) Queen 9) MUD 8) David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust/Aladdin Sane period 7) Suzi Quatro 6) The Sweet 5) Sparks/Roxy Music 4) New York Dolls 3) Gary Glitter 2) Slade 1) T-Rex
  • @fatpizzaman I agree 90%, except I would put your number 2 on place one!

  • @fatpizzaman Thats better

  • What a sorry-ass list...

  • @joydeliverer Why? What is your weird-ass list?

  • Great website you have it from!!! I agree with No. 1, I let others argue about No. 2 - 10

  • Question: how many real hits, ie top 20 did kiss have?

  • Surely the words GLAM and ROCK should NEVER be used together.

No rock fan in the 70s liked Smokie or Mud.

  • good list. i hoped that t.rex was nr# 1 and that KISS also was high in the list but KISS even didn't make the list.

  • @Thinkingjelle Kiss should be in yes, but I agree with No.1

  • LOL at "I DID NOT MAKE THIS!"" XD XD XD XD XD

  • @JackOfferlott Marilyn Manson copied Alice Cooper's whole act? dont bitch on stuff you don't know shit about. T.Rex, overrated? I've seen them live, they kick ass. You're right about wizzard tbh though. glad you like sweet and bowie, but still, you got some growing up to do

  • T.rex is number one. They started the genre for god's sake. But there are many other fine bands. Roxy Music and SAHB come to mind.

  • @bonedry138 Nope, T-Rex is monotounous, sort of droned stuff for me. Roxy Music should be in yes.

  • @carlphone T.rex were far from monotonous! Monotonous and droning is what the Velvet Underground did!

  • @McDjB1 Okay, maybe you are right, but I have listened to all Slade albums including the eighties stuff, never heard any music act so many REAL tunes in many many stykes and genres, maybe I need to lower my standards a little. Actually I think it is a shame that Marc Bolan and Slade are not in the Hall of Fame.

  • @carlphone I'm not familiar with Slade, but I do like the tracks I have heard. The thing about T.Rex is that you can't comprehend their musical diversity from just listening to a greatest hits collection. Every album has a distinctive sound. Electric Warrior has a dirty, grinding pulse, whereas Bolan's Zip Gun has a light, uptempo beat to it. And if you delve into the Unchained Collection, you can find jazz, funk, blues, metal, etc. The problem is that Marc thought he needed to be commercial.

  • @bonedry138 SAHB are hardly glam IMO, I love them but hardly glam they just get lumped into this. People that should be giving them their due is ac/dc though. I think they influenced them a whole lot especially Bon.

  • your glam rock list sucks ass man! come on! David Bowie at 6?? Ziggy should be number one! It's not just my opinion, it's fact! Hell, Bowie is the only one worth listening to.

  • @Thomas2488 Bowie is really not that good, trust me, compare every album he has made to other albums from the same years and Bowie is far from the top!

  • @McDjB1 You are right there, I think Bowie ismore of a performer and a great singer, but the numbers, except a handful great tracks, and also instrumentally, I am not so sure. You can notice Bowie is a solist becoz his music is kind of shallow and not that interesting. Finally someone saying it, I was hesitant to make this point, becoz many viewers consider Bowie the absolute rock god, I have to say though, sorry, he is not really that great, if I use Slade as the standard.

  • Don't forget Stryper, Angel, KISS, etc.

  • 1. kiss

    2. new york dolls

    3. t.rex

    4. mott the hoople

    5. david bowie

    6. alice cooper

    7. slade

    8. mud

    9. sweet

    10. gary gliter

  • @THEraisonsHAVEgone Sweet at no. 9, behind Mud, behave.

  • there is no way cooper is glam rock

  • @NewyBloke

some of his early stuff is

  • rock n roll all night (78) was most defiantly Glam Rock NOT Glam metal as was heavens on fire and I was made for loving you etc.. however in my opinion they were fluctuated between the two with some of there tunes ie god of thunder and deuce. Everyone has different opinions on what is and what isn't glam or who is and who isn't, I tend to agree with twentiethcenturybaby's list although not necessary in that order.

  • man this early .. like late 60's -70's only one 80's and he was getting older than and it was alice cooper

  • Glam top ten should be in my opinion (not that it matters) 1. Sweet 2. T-Rex 3. Slade 4. Glitter Band 5. Mud 6. Gary Glitter 7. Suzi Quatro 8. Rubettes 9. Alvin Stardust 10. ( Joint ) Kenny & Hello
  • ppsshhttt. David Bowie is king.KING.

  • @goreXcoreXkid Nope!

  • oh dear oh dear oh chuff boxing dear , shawaddyploddy were a poor revival band , smokie what a jokey , and there would have been no slade as we know em if it wasnt for the mighty marc bolan , t.rex should always top any glam list , whoever did compile this list wants a bloody good shafting !!!

  • The Rasberries

  • MUD....only at 5, oh dear!

  • Queen?

  • In the time 0:25 they are not Smokie!!!!

  • David Bowie and Alice Cooper are my favs <3

  • 1.sweet

    2.Slade

  • Comment removed

  • @rileykiss Hi riley. Slade and Sweet were the best of the era but Slade should top your list because they worked harder, had more success, were more versatile, were better live and the clincher is............ they wrote 99% of their classic hits whereas Chinnichap wrote Sweets. You may disagree with the first few points but you can't argue with the last one. Anyway, I still love them both so it doesn't really matter does it?

    LLTMS!!

  • Like where is Twisted Sister, Kiss ............................. BTW most of this dudes looks like asswhipes than rock dudes, and Smokie LOLZ

  • 1-T.Rex number 1 2-Bowie is 2 3-There's no Roxy Music, Mott The Hoopple or Cockney Rejects 4-People complain that Kiss aint on the list. However, as much as I love them and especially Alice Cooper, I personally don't consider them 'glam', I think they are more 'shock'. 5-Take out Mud, Smokie and Showaddywaddy Overall, MY list would be something like: T.Rex Bowie Roxy Music Mott The Hoople Sweet (early) Elton John Gary Glitter Slade Wizard Cockney Rejects
  • who the heck is slade

  • @1234packerman Who the heck are you?

  • @1234packerman Who the heck are you?

  • i agree .. TheChugulator .. "Mick Tucker" was a great drummer, its a shame not many people know how good he was.

  • @ztormar Fully agreed here, best most versatile and evolved band ever and were not Glam only, but played also classic, country, ballads, gospel style, state of the art popsongs etc. Have listened to all their albums. Great guys, fantastic live act. Period

  • Comment removed

  • Smokie gets lumped in with glam cuz they were produced & written for by Chinn & Chapman, who did Sweet, Suzi Quatro & Mud. But unless you think "Living Next Door To Alice" sounds like "Ballroom Blitz", or "If You Think You Know How To Love Me" sounds like "Cum On Feel The Noize", or "Layback In The Arms of Someone" sounds like "Suffragette City", you'd better lump them somewhere else. I'd call them soft rock/country-pop, w/ a couple of fun experiments like "It's Your Life" & "Wild, Wild Angels"

  • @souldeep69 Got to agree Soul. Well said.

  • Manson lol pfft please little one, he ripped off tomany, he was only original when he came out with Portrait Of An American Family.

  • kiss was a hard rock group with make up, it's something else than glamour rock !

This is the best list there can be, although I think the sweet is the best, and then Slade and T-rex, but that's just a personal opinion

  • @jentelJW Blockbuster,Ballroom Blitz,Teenage Rampage & Hellraiser to name just 4. Great stuff.

  • who the hell r all these guys

  • amazing ;-) thank you :)

  • no Roxy Music? or Eno?

  • The first glam bands ever. You need to put the New York Dolls and KISS on the list. They were also super early glam bands.

  • @ukmenace123 The first glam rock band was definitely The Alice Cooper Band. They wore glitter, womens clothes and make-up already in the late 60's when Bowie and Bolan both were folk musicians.

  • @ukmenace123 KISS is hard rock not glam rock

  • @DavCnuk: KISS is actually glam dude.

  • @ukmenace123 KISS were GLAM only in 83-86, but Glam Metal. This video is glam rock and they never was glam rock. They're music isn't like smokie, gary glitter or slade.

  • @DavCnuk: KISS was glam when they started. The whole facepaint thing had Glam elements. I know my facts mate. Let's stop fighting, alright?

  • @ukmenace123 Ok,ok :) I know my facts too.

  • @ukmenace123 Facepaint does not make musicians Glam. It makes them dicks.

  • @DavCnuk kiss was glam rock band in 70s. just look how did they look.

  • @ukmenace123 Glam Rock was a British invention. And those bands are not Glam anyway!!!!

  • @ukmenace123 KISS sucks, but I agree with New York Dolls, punk glam!

  • Glam rock rules...Geordie is the best glam band in my oppionion and Brian Johnson rocks!!!!

  • Marilyn Manson!! Mechanical Animals!!

  • Number 8 isnt Smokie- Its the HEAVY METAL KIDS!

    And they rule!

  • and kiss???

  • ok wer is kiss i mean its a good list but come on they gota be in the top 10 at least

  • EUROPE ????

  • Europe is definitely a great glam band.

  • Barry Blue is more glam rock that Smokie or Showaddywaddy and I agree with Kooruts65 that Suzi Quatro and Gary Glitter should have been in there.

  • Who was that no. 8 picture? It sure as hell wasn't Smokie.

  • yeeeeahh slade number 1

    i was waiting for them

  • Sweet is definitely the best in my book. They were the hardest rocking, had the most outrageous of all outrageous costumes and had one of the best drummers (mick tucker) of all time!!!

  • Queen!

  • what happened to suzi quatro and gary glitter...i don't think smokie was glam thou.

  • HANOI ROCKS???
