the reason economy was really bad in Carter's presidency is one word : OIL
the US was in oil embargo by Arab nations during Yom Kippur war, in Nixon era,, therefore it is very unfair to blame Carter. In fact he was a man ahead of his time, by promoting energy conservancy and development of renewable energy.
Carter did great things that came to fruition after he left office, Reagan took credit for them, then screwed up the country, made a few smart ass remarks and is considered a great president. Reagan crashed the stock market, destroyed our tax system, reversed our progress to energy independence, lied to the American people about the Iran-Conta affair(while letting them smuggle coke while Reagan led a "War on drugs"), and and gave money to bin Laden(which was later used for9/11).
Hoover provided aid to the defeated German nation after the war, as well as relief to famine-stricken Bolshevik-controlled areas of Russia in 1921, despite the opposition of Senator Henry Cabot Lodge and other Republicans. When asked if he was not thus helping Bolshevism, Hoover retorted, "Twenty million people are starving. Whatever their politics, they shall be fed!" At war's end, the New York Times named Hoover one of the "Ten Most Important Living Americans".Kennedy was a creep.
"Who controlled Congress 6 of the 8 years with Bush with a good economy: REPUBLICANS" ALL A FALLACY !!! Because of the regulation over Wallstreet during Bush term the U.S is now fucked.
@jandean61 Don't forget Democrats controlled Congress in the last two years of the Bush administration. Democrats went along with Bush on the bailouts. And Democrats increased the pace of non-defense spending from 2006-2008 at a faster pace than the inept last GOP Congress.
@sixletter who engineered the bank bailouts so the guys at the top made a bundle: REPUBLICANS....figures, but hey, itll TRICKLE DOWN to the rest of us right? As the last thirty years have proved: WRONG.
Talk about a Southern Strategy. Obama should do the same by walking barefoot through a tobacco field. The only Southern state Carter lost is my home state of fickled Virginia. She can be so dumb!!!!Dumb enough to elect George Allen as governor in 93 and to the US Senate in 2000!!!!!!!!
barrack jimmy hussein obama carter... same rhetoric ...change-change-change- we saw what left liberal change does .. change is not always a good thing... actually it could be very bad... just ask all the people that supported hitler... great speaker that manged to mesmarize young people ..but you know the rest of the story....
Jimmy Carter ruined the democracy party with his stupidity and his arrogance. The democracy has now gone with the muslim donkey. American Independence for tolerance!!!
You can't blame Carter completely for an economy that had been headed down a bad road for years. Newsflash: the economy sucked during Reagan's first term, too.
Carter promoted sensible energy, conservation, environmental, and drug policies that would've put us on a better track had future presidents followed through. He also brought peace between Israel and Egypt, while no president since has done anything significant to bring peace to that part of the world.
yes! someone who remembers the 70s, you got it attie 3. Jimmy lied to the whole country, what a pathetic excuse for an american president and johnson was about as bad. These young kids talk about all this stuff on utube and really believe the demos are going to help them ha!Same thing as carter i am just glad my kids are grown.Great comment.
You can instantly see by their comment who was actually alive during Carter's administration and who wasn't. Nobody around then would say Carter was anything but a horrible president, a blight on the country, and the worst president since kennedy.
He had nothing to work with as President. The last modern day post-Civil rights Democrat to carry the South. where black and white voted strongly for a Democrat. Jimmy Carter didn't have a strong foreign policy and that did him in. If Obama wins the same will happen to him-No strong foreign policy, bad economy, only serving 1 term, and landslided in a reelection bid. Carter is what I used to be a Conservative Democrat with progressive views on civil rights, ecology, and education.
