Carter did great things that came to fruition after he left office, Reagan took credit for them, then screwed up the country, made a few smart ass remarks and is considered a great president. Reagan crashed the stock market, destroyed our tax system, reversed our progress to energy independence, lied to the American people about the Iran-Conta affair(while letting them smuggle coke while Reagan led a "War on drugs"), and and gave money to bin Laden(which was later used for9/11).

@jandean61 Don't forget Democrats controlled Congress in the last two years of the Bush administration. Democrats went along with Bush on the bailouts. And Democrats increased the pace of non-defense spending from 2006-2008 at a faster pace than the inept last GOP Congress.

You can't blame Carter completely for an economy that had been headed down a bad road for years. Newsflash: the economy sucked during Reagan's first term, too.

Carter promoted sensible energy, conservation, environmental, and drug policies that would've put us on a better track had future presidents followed through. He also brought peace between Israel and Egypt, while no president since has done anything significant to bring peace to that part of the world.

You can instantly see by their comment who was actually alive during Carter's administration and who wasn't. Nobody around then would say Carter was anything but a horrible president, a blight on the country, and the worst president since kennedy.

He had nothing to work with as President. The last modern day post-Civil rights Democrat to carry the South. where black and white voted strongly for a Democrat. Jimmy Carter didn't have a strong foreign policy and that did him in. If Obama wins the same will happen to him-No strong foreign policy, bad economy,only serving 1 term, and landslided in a reelection bid. Carter is what I used to be a Conservative Democrat with progressive views on civil rights, ecology, and education.
